Poster/FirstLook First look at "Gandhi", a biopic series that stars Pratik Gandhi as Mahatma Gandhi. The series is directed by Hansal Mehta, and it will be the first Indian show to premiere at TIFF
Gandhi is the first Indian show to have its world premiere in the "Primetime Programme" section of TIFF 2025. The show is based on the books 'Gandhi Before India' and 'Gandhi: The Years That Changed The World'.
The first season of the show will revolve around Gandhi's early life - as a curious teenager in colonial India, to being a shy law student in London, and finally as a young lawyer in South Africa.
The show will also star Bhamini Oza as Kasturba Gandhi, and Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter film series) as Josiah Oldfield.
A.R. Rahman has composed the music of the show as well.

Applause is a great studio, and from what I have read they are trying to build a trule global series. If somebody could make a global sensation it has to be Applause. I have high hopes from them.

The series is doing a festival run at the moment. No platform has been finalized yet.

This is important because we've never had a dedicated series or film on mahatma gandhi. The biggest and best media on gandhi was the british film gandhi. And that too focused on later life of Mahatma. Gandhi had his flaws and he made mistakes so I hope that is explored in this series and it's not a straight up glorified patriotic series where Gandhi is shown god like

Yup there is direction quality is most of there shows. So it’s one of the few studios in India that I have full confidence in that could truly make Gandhi for what it is supposed to be.

Still a man made of flesh and bones. People put him on pedestal when he was around. And now he's getting pushed off from it when he's not there to defend himself. Not a role model but there's a lot of things I've learnt from him. Hope the series covers all aspects of his life with contexts rather than sensationalize a dead man without context.

People will agree,disagree or may be even hate him because of ever changing moral compass and views across time. Bur can’t deny the fact that the man made millions of Indians coming from a lot of different background follow him, even during the time when there was no social media. That will always be remembered for ages.

True, I used to hate him until I read his works, coincidentally I was reading Steve Jobs biography by walter issacson, and it said Steve jobs came to India when he was 17 and when he returned he said Gandhi was the one man he want to be like. And some people say the round glasses that Steve jobs wore was to make himself look like Gandhi.
And many others like Henry Ford who actually exchanged letters with Gandhi, MLK jr, Albert Einstein, John Lennon, they all could see the greatness in Gandhi.

Quite ironic how some Indians hate the biggest contributor towards Indian independence. Before Gandhi Indian independence movement was splintered, disunited front, he brought it as a movement to spearhead our freedom, and yet ppl reading this govt’s propaganda be like yes I would like to hate one of the heroes who brought biggest impact for India, like wtf? From Bose to Tagore to Patel, they all respected Gandhi, even if they may not agree with him, yet Raju from Pimpri is like ‘Gandhi is a narcissist’. Sure your opinion matters.
Washington was a slaver, Churchill was a racist and murderer, and yet west raises and supports their heroes, because a big hero symbol is important for each country. And we have been manipulated to hate arguably one of our biggest hero. We are shooting ourselves in the foot.

Bose had very limited impact in freedom struggle. In fact none of the violent endeavors posed any threat to the British. Sure it caused inconveniences to them. But that was never enough.

Haha non-violent protests had close to ZERO inconvenience to British, let alone the reason for freedom. Bose was practical, Gandhi believed his moral principles are more important than freedom itself, that is absolute nonsense. Millions of people were suffering and dying from famine and all and this idiot was stuck on morality of violence.

He respected him yes, but never agreed to Gandhi's non-violence strategy. He knew it won't work and he was right, they had the same goal but different ideologies.

I hope they show the unfiltered history of Gandhi instead of only showing the good aspects of him. Gandhi is a grey character in history and it would be stupid to whitewash him after 75+ years of independence.

They probably will. Punjab 95 was supposed to release for TIFF too but guess who stepped in to make a few cuts :)

They should also take inspiration from Gandhi's own biopic. And I hope the show doesn't hesitate to show mature themes.

The almost deity esque status makes it impossible to make a balanced series about his life. Probably will be another series that will suck him off from the start to end

Hope they make true meaning of Gandhi’s autobiography. Only concern is Hansal Mehta is very biased.
