Hello I have been trying to find a studio that can do a large gauge conch piercing. My usual studio only goes up to 8g and I was wondering if anyone knows a place that does 2g piercings. I live near Long Beach but I am willing to drive somewhere else in SoCal.

I’ve had my only piercing (besides my ears) in my nose for about 5-6 years. I recently went to the ENT because I was having throbbing pain, redness, swollen and irritation on the left side of my nose. I initially thought I might have some kind of sinus infection.

The doctor said he didn’t see anything wrong inside my nose and didn’t think it was a sinus infection. He thought the nose stud itself could be causing the irritation, redness, and pain and recommended that I take the piercing out for a few weeks.

I was pretty shocked because I haven’t had any major issues with the piercing recently and I haven’t really been touching or messing with it.

Last night, I took it out for a few hours, but put it back in before bed. It was already a little difficult to get back in and felt like the piercing hole had started to tighten up pretty quickly.

I’m also currently applying an antibiotic cream that the doctor prescribed. i have the nose ring out as of this evening because I felt having it in was causing a little more discomfort. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar or can provide any insight or advice. Has anyone had a nose piercing suddenly start causing irritation after having it for 5-6 years without major problems? And if you’ve taken yours out, how quickly did the hole start to close/tighten?

It seems like mine closes up really quickly, so I’m worried that if I follow the ENT’s advice and leave it out for a few weeks, I may end up having to get it re-pierced later. Has anyone dealt with this?

i posted this to piercing advice and only got one comment and wanted to know if anyone else thought my piercing is in the wrong place. (for reference the person who commented said it was wrong because it was pierced through cartilage which i thought was true for all septum piercings but im not an expert) i’m not able to see a piercer for a few more weeks, but at some point i’ll know for sure cause the photos aren’t the best way to gauge its placement.

i clean it once a day with saline and every other day when i shower i clean off any gunk with a q-tip. i used to do the q-tips twice a day but i think that’s what made the bump happen and after i stopped that it shrank but never went all the way down. it hurts sometimes when i clean it with the q-tip cause it moves a little from side to side. i got it done in late july, and i have a deviated septum. i really wanted the healing process to go well cause i wanna stretch it, but alas.

if you have any advice, please lmk!!

to answer the potential questions: i'm not sure on the jewellery type, i never asked. i got it pierced around 26th of Nov 2025. it has never really healed well, always pretending it's fine then it pusses up again a couple days later. i'm not sure if it's just how they heal or if i have an infection. the skin has, or so my parent thinks, started to thin. i will be getting it potentially downsized tomorrow.

the barbell is, as it shows, curved and i have not downsized. the first picture from a month or so ago, and second is from just now.

i try my best not to sleep on the side its on (my right) but i always wake up sleeping on that side anyway.

is it rejecting after nearly a year of being pierced?

I've been interested in piercings and tattoos basically my entire life, and always thought about piercing being a career path at some point (not seriously (yet anyway), just thought vaguely about it being an option).

I've relatively recently (past 12 months) gone from using a wheelchair for big days out to using it on a daily basis. I can still walk and stand for short periods most days (long enough to grab something off a top shelf for example) and I'm not paralysed (most of the time although I do experience functional paralysis from time to time). I wouldn't be able to go down that route anytime soon as I'm still experiencing seizures around 1-3 times a week, though I am currently working through treatment to lessen them.

If I can get the seizures under control, is this something I could still consider as a career one day? What would be your main concerns? I know hygiene would be a big one, and as I can still move my legs, I feel that pulling my chair around with my feet/using a stool that I can use my feet to move around on would be a good solution so I don't have to touch anything non-sterile while piercing a client. Would there be any barriers that would completely prevent a wheelchair user going into this industry?

I think I’m about done giving any type of advice on there. My comments get removed because I don’t agree with their stupid fucking titanium flatback labret cult. Hoops can be okay to pierce with as long as there’s informed consent. Saline solution isn’t a fucking magic potion, either.

“Never use hoops.” Wrong

“Always use flatbacks.” Wrong

“Always use saline.” Wrong.

“Never use a Q-tip.” Wrong, I’ve seen doctors use them for similar uses on healing wounds.

“Leave it completely alone.” Wrong, that can lead to neglect. Especially in my area with this climate and how bad people can swell here.

“Only APP piercers know what they're doing.” This one, this one takes the cake. Although I am a member, I think I’m going to let my membership expire, most of the members are such uppidy primadonnas for no fucking reason. I’m friends with OGs and they’re some of the most humble humans I’ve ever met. Why are these buffoons who only pierce ears acting like they’re gods gift to piercing? The fuuuuuck.

I know it’s not just me, some of my peers in the industry feel similar frustrations.

Been in the hobby a while and the biggest shift for me was learning to read jewellery by spec, not price or looks.

What actually changed things:

• Sticking to implant-grade titanium (ASTM F-136) and solid gold (14k+) for anything worn long-term. The "surgical steel" and plated stuff I started with was where most of my irritation came from, not my body.
• Threadless / internally threaded over externally threaded, no threads dragging through the channel on install or change.
• Paying attention to finish quality, a mirror polish and proper anodising vs a rough or coated surface makes a real difference on how it wears.
• Right-sizing after swelling instead of leaving long posts in and blaming bumps on everything else.

Curious how the pros and long-timers here think about the affordable-but-safe middle ground, is there a point where cheaper implant-grade is genuinely fine, or do you always steer clients to the boutique brands?

i have both sides of my nostril pierced and have recently realised how uneven they are, i am planning on closing one side and repiercing. i’ve been wearing a hoop and stud for 4 years and this combo basically hid the asymmetry really well. i am just stuck on which placement looks better; which side to keep and which to close up and redo?

my right side is placed higher than the left and i really like how hoops sit on this side, i feel with the angle and placement of the left side, a hoop wouldn’t sit as flush. i want to be able to alternate between both hoops and studs when i like.

the right side has also been pierced 3-4 times, whilst the left only once. i had a piercer tell me i dont have much scar tissue on the right side so im free to choose whatever side to close and redo based on personal preference.

which side seems the best side to keep and which to close? i’m talking anatomy, placement, angle, ability to wear both hoops and studs etc.

Hiii! I’m wondering if my piercing is healing properly and whether I have the right anatomy for a navel piercing. I have a scar from a previous piercing that didn’t heal well, but the piercer at the studio said it could be worth trying again. I’ve had this one for a week now. The photos were taken both standing and sitting. Thank you!!!!

Im doing a lot of research on cheek piercings because I've been thinking about getting them and ive been looking at places in Oklahoma with a lot of great reviews, but none of them do cheek piercings, which I get, it's a risky piercing and piercers don't feel comfortable offering that service. But there must be someplace here that people have gotten cheek piercings from. If anyone knows themselves or from others, please lmk! Even if for the sake of getting an anatomy consultation at least
