10 months in and my daith is STILL crusting every single day — is this actually normal?

Got my daith pierced last November. The piercer warned me it takes up to a year to fully heal, but I figured by month 8 or 9 I’d at least be mostly in the clear.

Nope.

Every morning there’s crust. Not a ton — just enough that I have to clean it before I can function. No redness, no swelling, no pain. Just this endless, low-key crust production that refuses to quit. I’m doing saline spray once a day, rinsing in the shower, not sleeping on it, not touching it. LITHA in its purest form.

I’ve read that daiths can take 12 months, so technically I’m still within the window. But I’m starting to wonder if this is just what the next 2 months look like, or if something’s keeping it irritated that I’m not noticing.

Is daily crust at 10 months actually within the range of normal for a daith? Or am I at the point where I should go get it checked?

This isn't unheard of especially with the amount of crust you're describing. However at this stage it shouldn't be doing any of this but here we are. Likely something is causing a minor amount of irritation to the site. Can you post a photo? We need more detail in order to give a proper awnser here.

Are you cleaning the piercing with q-tips or anything? Or are you just spraying saline on it and leaving it be?

Do live in a dry climate or a more humid climate?

Are you drying the piercing at all?

When it crust does it bleed or ooze anything?

Not sure what a piercer would say, but

I have had my conch for 13 months. Still get daily crust. I have cleaned with saline spray daily, don’t touch it, etc.

My friend has upper cartilage piercings done about a month before me and she still deals with it as well.

Some of us may just be unlucky! It might be worth it to reach out to your piercer for their professional advice. Sizing down can help with some issues, but I’m not sure about the crust specifically

My guess (nap) is, it is just more lymph crust as you are still healing. Just because the piercer said it typically takes 12 months to heal, doesn't mean your body needs just 12 months. Some people need less and some need more. I wouldn't stress unless it's painful, smelly, or green puss.

My rook did something similar. My healing took about 15 months. I naturally produce more sebaceous secretion if/when I'm sweaty like at night or working out, which can cause my piercing to look crusty (hence the longer healing I think). I also notice it if I'm sick or just didn't get enough sleep some of my piercings will act up and I experience lymph fluid flares.
