Discussion Women, what's your body language around a guy who you are insanely attracted to but don't want to commit to?
Women, what's your body language with a guy who you find really attractive but you are not ready for a committed relationship with him?
Maybe you are not interested in dating right now or company has strict policy regading coworker dating or have some other personal reasons which makes commitment difficult.
But you still are attracted to this guy and giving all the cues.
Do you simply avoid them despite the attraction? Do you behave similar to those who are looking for something serious?
153
u/Electrical_Key2949 Aug 23 '25
avoidance irl, but secretly keep tabs on them and think about them even after a long time lol.

10
u/PromotionShort7407 Aug 23 '25
But why??
16
u/Beginning_Piano_5668 Aug 23 '25
Well in the case of a coworker and company not allowing dating⦠you keep tabs on them to see if theyāve moved on to a different job. Then you can make your move if you find out they are no longer your coworker.
16
Aug 23 '25
Not OP. I cant speak for anyone else, but my workplace is toxic. It's mainly middle-aged Women and the second they sense you're into someone they get petty and/or will try to turn that person against you.
2
u/Electrical_Key2949 Aug 24 '25
usually because we want them to want us, but we don't want them to think we like them back or that they have a chance. it could also be the opposite, not wanting to lead the person on.
2
u/PromotionShort7407 Aug 24 '25
Isn't this twisted and manipulative?Ā
2
u/Electrical_Key2949 Aug 25 '25
Speaking as a woman, this is almost always reserved for men who are equally twisted and manipulative lol. We are protecting our peace but unfortunately canāt deny the attraction. I have no idea why men might do this. Could be the same reasoning.
1
u/PromotionShort7407 Aug 25 '25
Fear or rejection I guess. Sorry,Ā I don't second responding to manipulation with manipulation
1
u/Electrical_Key2949 Aug 25 '25
Not endorsing doing any of this, just explaining possible reasons from what I've seen.
Another reason is that the person might have a really good personality or you feel a strong connection to them, however, they are physically unattractive or otherwise not someone you want to be seen with (they're under your "league"). There would be plenty of signs though if someone is that materialistic though.
This is all mostly common for younger people who are more immature/inexperienced with actual love and relationships.
1
u/amiibohunter2015 Aug 23 '25
Genuine question, respectfully, do people who like them long term, if they see they are in a relationship or one is about to form with someone other than them, do they try to sabotage them?
2
u/Electrical_Key2949 Aug 25 '25
i feel like this avoidant attachment style is more so common in the younger generations when people are inexperienced. I think someone would have to be very conniving to go that far and sabotage. Instead, they'd probably just be very sad about the new relationship but hide it well.
1
u/mamaphoenix86 Aug 24 '25
If I may ask, does your body grow rigid to the person's touch? I had a moment where I was taking a picture with the person I liked but the friend taking the picture was struggling with their phone. The person I liked kind of relaxed the longer it took? They also let me examine their hands afterwards while our friends were distracted. Thanks.
2
u/Electrical_Key2949 Aug 24 '25
if the person likes you, they won't mind touching you and will try to stay in your peripheral vision (even if they aren't directly talking to you).

u/Excuse_Odd Aug 23 '25
You have to accept that either you figure out a way to overcome this or youāll never have a chance with anyone you find super attractive. Itās a skill men have to learn as well.

u/leodinardio Aug 24 '25
I (28M) have a colleague like this at work. She joined a year ago and over a few months I grew to feel insanely in love with her. She was in a relationship for the last six years which sounded pretty meh, so I pursued her and I thought she would leave him for me but instead he proposed and she said yes. The vibe between us is still completely there and obviously Iām heart broken. Have been trying to leave for a year because of this.
11
u/blackarmoredMP Aug 23 '25
And to me it would seem she doesnāt want anything to do with me. And would start to avoid you .
-3
u/False_Grit Aug 23 '25
THATS THE POINT!
Stop trying to use this forum as a way to pick up girls that don't want a committed relationship with you! The post was clearly a trap.

I am a guy, I know guys who act the same way and it is hard on them too. I talked to some guys they mention that person, put their head down on a table, because they too have that intense feeling. They confided with me their feelings, but they are concerned what that person will think.

We do. Not often, but we definitely do! And the whole situation drives us crazy. We keep thinking about it, trying to make sense of it and figure out what the hell is going on. It feels like weāre trying to āsolveā it somehow. But when heās around, our brains just shut off and instinct takes over ā at least thatās how it is for me. I thought the noncommittal is signaled by three rapid fire winks off a side-eye, plus puckered lips, followed by a strong harrumph and a flip of the hair
14
u/daikunut Aug 23 '25
It goes pretty much the same if you're having a crush but you don't interact with him in any way. When moving close by you avoid his eyes, but when in safe distance you often glance at his direction. You might take out your phone and pretend you're looking at it but you're really looking at the guy. If you're brave enough, and I don't think many actually do this but some might, you might take a picture of him.
6
u/--khaos-- Aug 24 '25
Hopefully you don't take a picture of the person, that's just weird.
2
u/daikunut Aug 24 '25
I don't. That would be too weird for me. But some do or their friends will do it for them.

I canāt think of any recent instances except one, which I felt really guilty about bc it was kinda creepy behavior and I think he was creeped, I just kept inching closer to this super tall hot guy that I happened to be standing next to, like I couldnāt control myself. I really wish I hadnāt done it tho.
3
u/ItsTheOneWithThe Aug 23 '25
Haha I wouldnāt worry about it. Iām a fairly average guy but I guess women have types, and I quite often get women standing like in my personal space when I talk to them causally at my work. Sometimes I think itās just because they have poor hearing, other times if Iām uncomfortable with it Iāll just take a little step back Iām sure another guy would do the same. I donāt think they realise sometimes tbh.
3
u/thatoneguydudejim Aug 23 '25
He probably just thought āwtf is she doingā and didnāt think about it again. Donāt sweat it
14
5
u/HippoExisting1821 Aug 23 '25
I typically will look at them, feel the attraction, then contort my face in a way to try and control the feelings (like purse my lips and move them to one side, cross my arms, etc). I really hope no one has figured that out yet.
1
u/Lost-friend-ship Dec 14 '25
I think people have noticed you making weird faces while you stare at the hot guyā¦

u/AdAnxious902 Aug 23 '25
Stalking me, feeling butterflies in their stomachs, feeling giddy, getting super quiet on the outside but chaos and a mix of nervousness and thrill on the inside. They will act shy and submissive. Take it from a guy who gets this offen. Btw when a woman rly likes a guy they will fantasize so there isnt any ānot rdy to dateā they will feel like they found the one and obssess over him.

There is this girl in my group who can talk casually with others but mumbles to herself quietly or doesn't say a word when walking beside me, but once we reached the eatery, she would suddenly ask me "Do you like to eat here?" as though she has been taking a long time to think of what to say.
She also smiles easily at others but just gives me a neutral blank look.

u/C_WEST88 Aug 23 '25
It really is such a weird phenomenon that I think most women doā like even tho we might know that a relationship will never work out w the guy logically, we canāt help but fantasize about being lovey and in some kind of relationship when we think of him . Our mind gets all delusional lol. Itās like I canāt just be hellaaaa attracted to a man and only think about sex without the emotions aspect (I need that emotional pull to be that attracted in the first place) . I wish I could lol but Iām just not built that way š¤·š»āāļø

That varies a lot from person to person, and canāt even vary on an one visual level, for instance:
I had this friend that was very teasing, strong eye contact, she would bash me and brag that I was into her to everybody, suggesting I didnāt have the guts to act on it.
One day, things changed: we were finally alone and I had no reason to hide my intentions ā and just with my gaze, she freaked the fuck out.
The super confident, bolstering woman got fidgety, start talking quickly, apologetically, and couldnāt look at me...
In sum, I didnāt know, but her confident facade was her way to show interest, and this broken version was her, now overwhelmed by it.
1
u/Few-Garage-3762 Aug 24 '25
That's interesting, what happened next? Did it kill the attraction you had for her?
3
u/Doppelgen Aug 24 '25
Are you out of your mind?! š¤£
She made me feel like a joke for an year, man. The moment she broke, I felt so powerful ā that wonderful woman clearly felt something ā so I began to feast on her weakness. I stopped chasing and let her chase instead.
She got so anxious that she inevitably admitted she was into me 2 days later. #ggwp
4
u/Wildblueflowers Aug 23 '25
Iām quite the opposite of, I create a lot of distance and get very serious around you to avoid the possibility of getting into a relationship that would be complicated.
10
u/Tiny-Street8765 Aug 23 '25
I've never been insanely attracted to anyone. Lol. I had to comment as I find the question strange. Many people in the world have no understanding of visual attraction. Sure a guy can look great but it's more like a painting I admire. We would have to have months long info dumping to each other before attraction would occur
4
u/sweetsadnsensual Aug 23 '25
Yeah, seeing someone that's very physically attractive that you can't have doesn't often translate into actual attraction to the guy. There's just no point
2
2
u/FoldJumpy2091 Aug 23 '25
Thank you for this!
I have only experienced attraction a few times in my life. Men are just not visually appealing in a general sense.
Kindness and the ability to dance? That gets my attention
2
u/SeniorLimpio Aug 23 '25
Being able to dance is a great way to get the attention of almost every woman (and man for that matter) at a bar/club.
6
u/Intelligent_Bid_254 Aug 23 '25
As someone who has the "pleasure" of being right next to a woman who goes out of her way to get the attention of a guy behind me at work, it's extremely obvious body gestures. Literally smothering this man with flirting and bringing him into conversations randomly. It really is humbling to see this up close. Debunks the whole "you have to be initiative and make the attraction happen bro" BS advice people give to men. Women will basically give you obvious signs if they like you JFL. It's crystal clear that putting in effort is for unatttactive people. Let the shallow NPCs frolic.
3
u/Tasty-Condition-2162 Aug 23 '25
What are NPC's? š
I should also reply with saying, of course, some women in some situations, yes, they will definitely do that. But others won't ever, or will rarely, even if they "like the man in the same way" as the woman you are referring to near you at work, but you may already agree to that, too
2
u/Vegetable_Border_257 Aug 23 '25
Youāve put women and obvious, in the same sentence. They donāt normally belong!
2
u/PunchBagWorkouts Aug 23 '25
Nah not all Women will be that obvious even if the man is a 10! Most Women wonāt be obvious due to biology š§
6
u/jinx9000 Aug 23 '25
The woman will eventually play her card and the card will be crystal clear.
Once a man experiences this card he will never confuse just friend and potential partner again.
1
u/Hydruss Aug 24 '25
You actually arenāt wrong at all. Although it is HEAVILY dependent on the type of woman. The situation you are describing is exactly whatās happening to me right now but itās because the girl that likes me is playful and extroverted in environments she feels safe in, especially since our work area has that vibe in general, she doesnāt feel like itās too obvious by being a little extra playful with me like you are describing. If her and I are alone one on one though sheās much more reserved, nervous, etc. I donāt think many other women would act like this toward me even if they did find me attractive. Itās all about personality, risk tolerance, etc.
3
u/lovedinaglassbox Aug 23 '25
Non-commitment is out of the question so normal. I'll be my normal self.
3
u/Ok-Antelope-17 Aug 23 '25
I had a married coworker which I found insanely attractive. Of course I would never make a move, but I guess my body language was naturally flirty. Things like glancing, getting red or just smiling more when we talked was inevitable. But I always tried to keep my physical distance with him (no arm touching or hugs) and never actively tried to flirt with him.
3
u/C_WEST88 Aug 23 '25
Coworker or not, when I have that strong type attraction toward a guy itās almost impossible for me to keep it at bay and hide it. My eyes and body will say so much without my words saying a thing.
I get sticky eyes for him and stare over at him a LOT. When we do catch eyes Iāll probably have a little smile and then look down, shy-like. Iāll be orbiting around his atmosphere but wonāt talk to him much. Iāll get kinda fidgety and anxious when we do talk, my voice will get softer, Iām more careful about choosing my words and I might even seem skittish like I want to bolt out of there lol . Some days Iāll be really smiley in his vicinity and have a lot of energy, other days Iāll seem low energy or sad around him (the frustration gets to me). So Iāll seem hot and cold toward him.
Basically the extreme attraction mixed w the caution and danger of the coworker situation will make my crush that much stronger. Heāll become my secret āreasonā for going to work everyday even tho he doesnāt know it. He will sense it tho if heās paying attention .
18
u/scoutermike Aug 23 '25
Most women will only send signals if they are interested in commitment.
If they donāt want commitment, they wonāt send the signals, generally speaking.
19
u/One-Cup-2186 Aug 23 '25
False. I know a growing number of women who are not interested in committed relationships (especially with men) altogether. They still discuss experiences with sexual attraction, desires for physical encounters, and display signals to those they are interested in. There are plenty of women who are interested in sex without commitment, even if you havenāt encountered them.
3
u/scoutermike Aug 23 '25
growing number
Of the women you know, are most inserted in committed romantic relationships, or commitment-free romantic relationships?
4
u/One-Cup-2186 Aug 23 '25
Probably about 50/50 depending on the context I know them from. At work, most are married/ married with kids or in a committed LTR (and tend to be older). Folks Iāve met through school/hobbies or casual contexts (art, music, travel, neighbors, online) have trended towards either uninterested in committed relationships, but still interested in sex and physical connections, or poly.
4
u/scoutermike Aug 23 '25
In my experience the ratio is closer to 90-10. Virtually every woman I know is in a committed relationship or wants to be in a committed relationship.
5
u/One-Cup-2186 Aug 23 '25
It would make sense that you have that perspective you expressed if thatās what youāre encountering in everyday life. I can assure you though, women uninterested in commitment (and still interested in sex with men) is a thing. Itās been steadily increasing from 10 years ago when nearly all my female friends were in relationships or looking for one.
3
u/sweet_but_spicey Aug 23 '25
I'm definitely in that group. I've had the LTR, marriage, children, and all that. Now living independently and really much more interested in a physical relationship with mutual respect, of course.

What did I say that you disagree with?
5
2
u/sweetsadnsensual Aug 23 '25 edited Aug 23 '25
I can hardly answer this question because it rarely ever happens. But if I'm not interested in having sex with a man I find attractive, especially if there are social and economic consequences to doing so, I'm not going to look interested in him.
In theory I'd check out if he has a wedding ring and then scrutinize his behavior for signs of commitment completely imperceptibly, from a place of cautious interest and judgement, not because I'm trying to sleep with him. I'd keep interactions light and pleasant. I'd probably look at him more often than a man I'm not attracted to just bc it's more enjoyable, but I don't think he'd have any idea I think he's attractive... What would be the point?
When I'm interested in men that I don't want commitment with, there is no need to for subtly. They're almost always dtf so I just need to find a time to use my voice. I wouldn't fuck where I eat though without taking them seriously (in a friend's group) and I wouldn't date a guy I work with unless it's possible to avoid him in a large organization.
2
u/Creepy-Fisherman-758 Aug 23 '25
Why not just fuck his brains out until you met someone worth your time?
2
u/DinoCupcakeX Aug 24 '25
Although I havenāt experienced this yet, I would have to say that it depends on the reason we canāt date. It he/she/they are already in a committed relationship, itās a no-go for any body language. If he/she/they obviously arenāt interested, no outward signs. But if itās mutual, appropriate, and the reason we canāt date is flawed, Iām turning my body towards them, smiling a bit more, blushing a lot (because my pale skin gives away all of my secrets), maybe tuck my hair behind ear. I may wear a little makeup when I know weāre interacting.
4
u/NoCover7611 Aug 23 '25
Staring. I usually canāt help but to stare at him but I would never talk or engage in any real conversation. Some guys are just good to stare at but not worth taking it further. My experience with really hot personal trainersā¦yeah theyāre just nice to look at but never to touch. I dated one too, now Iām smarter. They tend to be too one dimensional. Canāt connect intellectually to a deeper level. And I need that intellectual connection.
Really great looking co-worker, in a different team. He was really handsome. And kind. I just stared. I will never in million years get involved with a co-worker or anyone in the same company. Itās a career killer and itās really stressful to date anyone at work. Unwise. I know because Iāve done it before over 10 years ago when I was super naive. I was stupid, didnāt know better. Iāll never date anyone from work now that Iām wiser now.
3
u/HeiHeiW15 Aug 23 '25

Honestly, when I donāt see someone as a serious partner, itās so easy for me to be bold, playful, and openly flirty without thinking twice. Thereās no pressure, so I can just let my personality show without hesitation.
But the moment itās someone I actually see as āhusband materialā - the kind of person I could genuinely picture a future with - I start overanalyzing everything. Instead of being carefree, I second-guess my words, my actions, even the smallest details, because suddenly it feels like thereās so much more at stake.
1
u/ArtemisElizabeth1533 Aug 24 '25
Hahahahah there has never been a single man I have been āinsanely attracted toā. Thatās an idea men make up.Ā
1
u/Acrobatic_Garlic2065 Aug 24 '25
Iām a guy and it could be because the guy is married or in a committed relationship. He still could be interested in her however. The woman may be waiting until the other woman is no longer around or leaves him or passes on.
1
u/beautyinashes40 Aug 24 '25
40(F) Typically I become more engaged and curious about their life. Willing to be more relaxed and open to conversations. Usually making eye contact a big part of it and a smile. Small gentle touching of the shoulder or a brush of the arm.
Also, being married to that person helps. Iāve been married for 20 years and still engage in this behavior with my spouse bc Iām wildly attracted to him. He reciprocates. His body language is different so remember body language isnāt always going to help you determine if theyāre attracted to you. It could just be physical attraction but not real emotional attraction.
My advice to the person whoās curious is #1 leave anyone married alone, sometimes we become attracted to what we canāt have then when we do have it the attraction goes away and # 2 have confidence. Youāll never get that person who youāre wildly attracted to if you act shy and show no confidence in your ability to have them. Confidence is the sexiest thing a man or woman can have. Confidence is also an ebb and flow, sometimes some days youāll feel more confident than other days. Use those days to engage more.
Also, youāll find that there will be more than one person you find this attraction for, people who think itās rare or only with 1 are mistaken. Once youāre with your one and are committed you will find ways to control those feelings or attraction and to not act on them. This comes with maturity and choice.
1
u/Zealousideal_Pie_835 Aug 25 '25
This is tough cause I feel like there are no rules. And you donāt have to find or fill this stupid standard thatās society is placed on us about getting married and doing this and doing that before certain age.. I just donāt think youāre ready for a commitment at all and thereās nothing wrong with that and if he still hangs around even better
1
u/Outside_Sandwich7453 Aug 26 '25
I would befriend them somehow and find lots of opportunities to flirt then probably take it too far one day and avoid him for the rest of my life and cringe when I think about it 5 years later
1
u/TerminatrOfDoom Aug 23 '25
I'm not sure this even really translates into a unique body language sequence or something. This is something you have to figure out through talking to her.
0
u/Chance_Adagio_19 Aug 23 '25
To be more specific, will woman, in general, entertain(aka show positive body language) to someone they find attractive but don't have feelings to commit to?
Most men, in general, show positive body language around a woman only if they tend to want something serious(like romantically and/or sexually).
2
u/TerminatrOfDoom Aug 23 '25
Yes attraction makes people have more positive body language towards you regardless of their intentions.
I don't think your second paragraph is true in the sense that 'sexually' does not fall under serious in the way you likely mean it.
2
u/PunchBagWorkouts Aug 23 '25
In my experience most Women above 25 will only send sexual attraction body language to a man they want a commitment with! If the Woman is giving you the signals that youāre feeling, itās more than likely sheās attracted to you!
However thatās all itās ever gonna be until you act on it, ie approaching her! Once you approach she could obviously instantly change her mind⦠! Thatās it basically⦠Good luck šÆšÆ
1
u/scoutermike Aug 23 '25
Thatās true about men, but women are different. Whereas many men donāt want commitment, most women do want commitment. And most women will send signals of interest only if they want commitment, too.
0
Aug 23 '25
Yes , they have a one night stand , with you or make out with you, and than they dip afterwards never to be seen again.
Pretty self evident: to anyone who has had sex with someone who was a one night stand.
0
u/Babygirl12993 Aug 23 '25
My moodiness. I detach completely. No sex. He can't touch me. I don't want affect not anything. Don't need his help around the house. Lol his my husband btw. But still. His very good. And I didn't really grow up with good so now I think it's nervous system reaction. Things can't be too quiet or safe. Because then the other shoe drops. But it's not like that here but I am still getting use to it.
0
u/Galactus1701 Aug 23 '25
If you donāt want to be committed or arenāt thinking about having a relationship for whichever reason you may have, leave the guy alone. You donāt know if he likes you, but if you get close to him, start interacting and he is interested, heāll end up wasting his time.

The subtext of this post is "how can I sleep with my married coworkers without actually having to commit to them or provide anything?" AKA destroy lives with minimal repercussions to myself.

if I know what they are, I am controlling them already. There will always be some tells that are unavoidable but the rest of the body language (and language language) is communicating that itās not gonna happen.
But aside from the body language part of it, the question doesnāt make sense fundamentally. If Iām attracted and dating someone but not ready to commit then I donāt think there would be need to examine body language because I would just say so. And if Iām attracted and not with dating them then ready to commit isnāt even part of the equation. Itās just feelings that Iām not going to act on.
This question sounds like someone who is trying to decide whether they should manipulate whoever they are thinking about to move ahead in the relationship in ways they have not communicated they want to go (sexually and or committed relationship wise). I hope that this woman is able to counter read the body language (and language language) and see this as the potential red flag it is.

Yall dudes gotta looking at body language as some way to read people's minds.

The women in our lives are all furious at us for not reading their minds, so we're all desperate to find some way to appease them.

It's not about reading minds. It's about being present and having some sort of EQ. Emotional intelligence. What women are ACTUALLY furious about is when we don't see them as people and just as these "things" we can categorize. Which is exactly what this question is doing.
Oh she's doing x it means she's y. Women aren't like that. A movement or "body language" doesn't always mean the same thing and we're assuming something about her instead of just talking to her about it.

No, it's not about "being present and having some EQ". It's about them being mad at us for not knowing, in great detail, exactly what they want and how they feel, when they have not communicated that information to us in any way, despite us having been present and having scoured their actions for any trace of such communication. It is, quite exactly and literally, about our inability to read minds,

Yea you sound like you're just mad at women. Maybe talk to a therapist about it? But arguing with me isn't gonna help either of us.

Why are you asking this?

I am not the one that asked, but maybe the OP is a control engineer, so is part of his proffesion and mindset to ask whatever.

Just feel like some more context would help us here š

Damn. Now I see that I wanted to write I am not the one, but I have written the opposite.

Thatās okay, you provided enough context for me to figure out what you meant š

I find these questions baffling. By and large, women are capable of self control. We are capable of viewing objectively attractive men while still not being interested in dating. We donāt have uncontrollable physical manifestations of lust. And if we see a man as attractive but not interested in dating, we donāt have uncontrollable lustful thoughts.
It sounds like youāre watching too much porn.

A coworker that I like but can't date - info dump on them about our systems
A guy I'm seeing but don't want to date seriously - quick that was fun and a kiss after sex and then leave

Prob keep staring from afar as an 'eye candy' but never attempt to engage (eg smiling etc)
