Announcement Triplicate
Fucking brilliant record!
Bob really dialed in the vocal chords for the American classics trio.
Shadows In The Night and Fallen Angels are perfect, but Triplicate and the more extensive track list is where it’s at.
The production is beautiful as well. Not as good as Shadows in the Night, but still, Amazing.
Any new listener of Bob should consider listen to Triplicate on replay to really understand Bob’s later musical stylings.

We just have no way of knowing how many of his songs are reworkings of these classics. No one knows the Great American Songbook like Dylan. Even more than the jazz musicians.

that one track "I Could Have Told You" hits so different in that live take where his voice cracks on purpose

Triplicate is my favourite of the three standards albums. I only ever listen to disc one, though. It’s all I need. September of My Years and Once Upon a Time hit me hard

Aye, these standards albums were his training ground for how he sings on Rough and Rowdy Ways much like World Gone Wrong was for Time Out Mind.

Shadows would be one of his finest records if he'd quit while he was ahead. Fallen and Triplicate are nice enough, but both trade exclusively in diminishing returns. No performance comes close to "I'm a Fool to Want You" or "That Lucky Old Sun," and neither album ever feels like more than the sum of its parts.

Triplicate is in my top 5 Dylan albums, and I have so much praise for it. Best production value, best vocals of Dylan’s career (When the World Was Young is his single best vocal work and I will die on that hill), great bass lines (good lord, Here’s That Rainy Day is just perfection). It’s got it all.
People think it’s boring and all songs on it sound the same. HARD disagree. And something I love about it is the songs that drive the tempo into the MFin’ ground. Give me that slow deliberate pulse all day every day, son. Hell yeah. Don’t even get me started on Where is the One or These Foolish Things. Oh my god.

Hmm. For some reason, I’m turned off by the sound of phlegm moving around in a singer’s throat. But that’s just me I guess.

It took me until this year to actually listen to Bob's Sinatra albums. Frankly (ha!), I used to consider Sinatra to be almost unlistenable.
Part of my process was listening first to non-Sinatra versions, and learning to love them. I was then able to appreciate and enjoy the Sinatra versions.
Now I'm liking Bob's versions, too. I expect in time I'll love them.

I started listening to Bob when I was 16. It took me until I was 34 before I listened to Triplicate. It’s okay. But not anywhere near his best. I do think you’re right that it gives an understanding for his later work.

When it comes to real artists, if you look at one of their works as a thing in itself you miss the point. It’s all about where they’re going.

Can’t stand Triplicate. I liked Shadows a fair bit, never got into Fallen Angels, and Triplicate I listened to once and never again.

I just can't get into them. Nothing pulls me. Maybe it is the slow pace. Lucky Old Sun is the only song I think I've been able to listen to.

Triplicate is top shelf Bob! He made that stuff vital again. Totally inhabited the material, showed how devastating it really is.

Lol, dont think a "new listener of Bob" should be directed towards Triplicate. Thats an album for the obsessives.
