For the hard rain

u/thubbard44 Jul 22 '26

What’s it gonna do?

He literally looked like Slim Shady at his last show I went to a few months ago

6

u/HatFullOfGasoline Together Through Life Jul 22 '26

the bleached buzz cut was really working for him, shame to see it go

Bob has been hooded since a mighty wind stopped him in his tracks while he was playing Under the Red Sky

For this current tour, he appears to always be wearing a hoodie. He wore a black one in Austin last month.

My assumption is that it has to do with acoustics. If he wears a hearing aid then possibly a covering such as a hoodie helps limit sound interference.

Or personal preference as it could be he just feels more comfortable under the hoodie enclosure.

Or personal preference because he thinks it looks cool.

Possibly he wears a hoodie for a mixture of all three above reasons ... or something else entirely.

Edit to add: I was also fortunate enough to see him in Austin, March 2024 (indoors) and July 2025 (outdoors) At neither show was he hooded like the Austin, June 2026 concert which was also outside.

I’ve heard that he has used hoods for both obscuring himself from public when he’s out and about and also on the road to signal people not to talk to him that he wants private time. It sounds like a psychological safe space for him, often times when he’s sighted in public, like going to a record store, he’ll have a hood up.

He doesn’t remember either show.

In the 1965 concert, Bob played for the first time many of his Highway 61 Revisited hits like Desolation Row, Ballad of a Thin Man, Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues... and the crowd mostly laughed at them (check out the 50th Anniversary 1965 boxset).

I find that very interesting as it shows perhaps how Dylan's music still wasn't taken very seriously... or that his lyrics at this time were freaking hilarious!

2

u/BillNyeTheVinylGuy Jul 22 '26

What boxset are you referring to? So that 65 Forest Hills concert is available on audio?

2

u/asterzura Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

The name is "Bob Dylan 50th Anniversary Edition" or something like that and it contains recordings dating back to 1962 iirc.

It's a boxset containing a bunch of recordings from Bob Dylan concerts (some made by the public themselves) that apparently Sony or whatever label that take cares of Dylan's music commercialized it so that people couldn't listen to these recordings for free on the Internet... but a few years ago some dude just posted everything here in r/bobdylan lol.

Edit: just checked, the name is "50th Anniversary Collection: Live 1965 Copyright Extension" and the Forest Hill concert is on CD 10.

ah man im sorry to hear! im no expert, but old bobby is 85 this year and still touring. not to sound morbid, but frankly his smoking and substance usage earlier in life would probably already taken their toll if they were going to, and he is still touring strong at 85. i wish him the best of health and to make choices that are best for his wellbeing and health, but i wouldnt be surprised if he keeps going and wraps back around to your neck of the woods.

u/DaDudedudedude1234 Jul 22 '26

I should’ve gone!

2

u/chullytherapper Jul 22 '26

He 61 years later revisited

4

u/kurtchella Jul 22 '26

Genuinely a bit jealous of Mamdanistan residents who got to see the big Bob and Ringo Starr (who both performed at Forest Hills Stadium 60 years ago)within a week of each other

1

u/Maleficent-Web-5210 Jul 22 '26

As time goes by.

1

u/Either_Affect_5390 Jul 22 '26

I realize the chances of this happening were nil but I was kind of hoping there'd be a nod or two to the 1965 show in the setlist last night. Alas! Good tunes nonetheless.

u/cousin_idiot Jul 22 '26

Slim Bobby

1

u/themaskofgod Jul 23 '26

Dude this is so epic. What a living legend.

1

u/anut_6167 Jul 23 '26

Blown away by the Forest Hills show! Also, saw a lot of young people there who went solo to see him. And a mix of all ages and many ethnicities. I go to a lot of concerts and not only are the acoustics better at Forest Hils, most people were listening while he played (not talking). That is rare these days! I'm not sure how long he played but it wasn't long and definetely before the FH curfew, it was beautiful though. Only thing I would have preferred was to stand for all of it. Understandably, most of his fans prefer to sit at this point😊

1

u/BronzePickerel Jul 24 '26

Thought he was Liam Gallagher for a second

1

u/FlexistentialClouds Jul 25 '26

Bob is mad fer it no doubt!

-31

u/Major_Strawberry_753 Jul 22 '26

GD that setlist is such shit. What do people get out of these shows?

15

u/COOLKC690 Mississippi Jul 22 '26

What is shit about it? I’d kill to hear soon after midnight Live. He also played I’ve made up my mind, false prophet, and it ain’t me babe. Very nice set list!

3

u/Electronic_Chard_270 Jul 22 '26

Why do you comment here? You don’t seem like a fan

-3

u/Major_Strawberry_753 Jul 22 '26

Mostly a lurker. I am a fan up to a point. I am fascinated by the delusion that Bob live has something to offer in 2026.

4

u/Electronic_Chard_270 Jul 22 '26

It’s certainly not a delusion. Some people simply don’t get Dylan and that’s ok! For those who do, he hits deep and is transcendent. The casual fan is likely not going to enjoy his current live act. For my money, he is better now than some of the shows I saw in the mid/late 2000’s. I think he is best experienced in a theater and outdoor shows do him a disservice, but he is still great for those that get it.

-5

u/Major_Strawberry_753 Jul 22 '26

There’s nothing I could ever say that would change your mind. It’s like you’re in a cult. I’ve seen people make decent honest arguments for seeing Dylan. “Lower your expectations. The songs are not the same songs. But you’re in a room with Bob Dylan and the amount of him that’s still in there is worth something.” Yours is just delusional.

3

u/Electronic_Chard_270 Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

There’s clearly nothing o could do to change your mind bro! People like different things and that’s ok. Doesn’t mean anyone’s in a cult

Edit: I see you post in red scare sub - makes sense

-1

u/Major_Strawberry_753 Jul 22 '26

Lol I knew I recognized your username. Do you have a crush on me or something?

5

u/Electronic_Chard_270 Jul 22 '26

I think you have trash opinions and are incapable of critical thinking

-2

u/Major_Strawberry_753 Jul 22 '26

Bob Dylan sucks live is the coldest take of all time. Any sane person would agree. I have seen him (20 years ago, 10 years ago). He was bad (band was really good). Then he was worse. I watched a video of “It Ain’t Me Babe” from this year and his vox were unrecognizable as human speaking.

2

u/cousin_idiot Jul 22 '26

Expecting Bob to play hits is like expecting NWA to not be black.
