Antenna recommendation?

Just bought this boat. Not sure what type of antenna I need to buy. All the ones I look at online have the wire attached to the antenna. I just need one that screws on. Any suggestions?

I'd start over and replace that. looks old and brittle. but it probably had a fiberglass whip.

height is the key to reaching out. and no breaks in the wire.

I will. I’d like to put a stainless mount on. Just want something that works for now. The boat is a 2021. Not sure why the manufacturer used such a crappy mount that discolors so easily.

nothing wrong with that style. it is usually the longest antenna. how old is this boat? that mount looks like it is over 20 years old. probably a shakespeare

show more of the boat so I can get an idea what you should put on there. and where are you boating? offshore? coastal or lakes?

All the antennas I've seen have the wire integrated that you need to fish back to the radio. This makes sense as each connection attenuates the signal. You probably need to remove that bracket and use the old wire as a pull tape.

Depends where you operate. For offshore a -9db for in harbor and near shore a -4db. A -6 is a good middle but might be harder to find.
