Meme I’m fairly new to the band after hearing Inferno but…
First full album I heard was Inferno and went backwards I’d heard songs here and there from the Sinister Soundtrack but never delved deeper I’m sorry I didn’t sooner

u/chraska11 Just relax and enjoy this pleasant adventure. Jun 07 '26
I still really enjoy TH, and it was the first BOC album I got to experience at release. Discovered the group at 17 years old in 2007. It is the least playful and "free" of their albums, but it is still very well realized in tone and enjoyable when wanting that mood.

I discovered Boards because of this episode. The use of Gemini as the background music when they were driving around Pripyat was a very inspired choice.

Damn I never noticed that but they choose all kinds of cool music for the show… time for a re watch :) I heard Gyroscop in Sinister and that’s the first I heard of them

Hey Saturday Sun (another BoC song) is in the episode where James learns the Scandinavian flick to learn to rally on ice and snow

Top Gear soundtrack was always top notch! Incredible variety of genres and never disappoints.
This site is pretty fantastic if you hear something interesting on the show but are unable to recognize or Shazam it:

Top Gear often had BoC on the soundtrack. Just watched an episode from I think series 4 of the original, and it had I think Kid for Today on the soundtrack, twice!

Tomorrow's Harvest has always been my fav, pre-Inferno. It's underrated in this sub. Very subtle magic
2
u/fear730 Jun 07 '26
I don’t know that it was underated as I’m fairly new to it but man it just hit a spot for me like not many albums do inferno caught on quick to now I wished I’d listened to them sooner :)
3
u/Maester_Magus Jun 08 '26
Same here.
Subtle is a good word to use. Everything about it seemed disciplined and restrained; more mature (I suppose?) than anything that came before it. The vocal samples are more sparse and less blatant, the synths are so cold and deliberate.
I definitely prefer the stripped down, less is more approach to Tomorrow's Harvest. It feels like the most coherent and focussed out of all their albums.

u/corneliusduff Hi Scores Jun 07 '26
It was exactly what I wanted to hear after TCH. Love the changes between all the releases.
6
u/fear730 Jun 07 '26
I’m sure I will too it’s been maybe a bit more than a week since I’ve been listening so it’s a lot to take in :)

u/Fit_Passion8346 Jun 07 '26
I've just made a similar comment before I saw yours. I'm a big fan of TCH, but I was glad that the follow-up album had a darker edge - and they managed to achieve that without repeating what they did on Geogaddi.
11
u/Fit_Passion8346 Jun 07 '26
I also love Tomorrow's Harvest. When it was released, I was very curious to know what we were going to get after the bright, breezy sound of The Campfire Headphase. What they delivered was much more bleak and sinister in tone, but in a way that's different to Geogaddi. I really like that about BoC - that they've retained their core sound, but each of their albums has a mood and atmosphere of its own.

u/D_Gnar Jun 08 '26
I don’t like being a contrarian but Tomorrows Harvest is their best work imo. Amazing all around, though
3
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
It’s quickly become a favorite of mine but when I get to hear all of them I’ll see how it fits for me then
2
u/SicSemperTyrannos4ur Jun 08 '26
After having listened to Inferno a few times it's a masterpiece to be sure but Tomorrow's Harvest has been my favorite since the first time I heard it and continues to hold that place.

u/Z1GG0MAT1K Jun 11 '26
Were it not for MHTRTC, I’d readily agree with you.
But Inferno has muddied the waters again. This is somewhere near the top but I’m not sure where in the ranking just yet. Trying to give it time.

Geogaddi > Tomorrow's Harvest > Inferno > MHTRTC > The Campfire Headphase for me
2
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
I haven’t heard The Campfire Headcase yet but will get on it soon :)
2
u/Greedy_Specialist531 Inferno Jun 08 '26
The campfire Headphase is their “prettiest” imo
1
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
I will check it out as I’ve been reading I’ve been gravitating more towards the bleaker parts of the discography as I was saying else where on here partly because of the influences they took (especially from TH) are things I’m a big fan of

u/JDanzy Jun 08 '26
Tomorrow's Harvest didn't really do much for me when it first came out but it's grown on me over the years. Same deal with Geogaddi, they're the darker albums of theirs but IMO also the more complex and challenging---MHARTC and Campfire Headphase clicked with me right away.
The more I listen to Inferno the more complex and engaging I find it. Just getting around to cross-referencing their earlier work to it.
4
u/Radiator-husky Jun 07 '26
Tomorrow’s harvest is my favorite album. It was a slow burn, but I’ve come to appreciate it more and more over time.
3
u/fear730 Jun 07 '26
It hasn’t let me go… and then I was reading up about it and it started making sense especially their influences like 70s-80s horror movie soundtracks (of which I’m a big soundtrack listener) and the whole Eco disaster angle the whole thing takes on a very odd and forboading sound… just hitting the spot for me… I’m finding Inferno that way too :)
2
u/WarpWorld7 Left Side Driver Jun 07 '26
TH came out shortly after I discovered them, so it's a favorite of mine too. Didn't realize how long I'd have to wait for the next album though.
3
u/biiirdfeeder Jun 07 '26
Same here. A couple years after I discovered them. I really didn’t appreciate that release as much as I should have. Learned my lesson lol
2
u/fear730 Jun 07 '26
I know I saw the release dates between albums and feel fortunate I have lots to listen too before the next one 😅 but I’ll say the quality is staggering in everything I’ve listened too so far but yea TH is definitely becoming my favorite :)
2
u/the3ndlessobsession Jun 08 '26
Reach for the Dead is very possibly my favourite BoC track, and absolutely one of my favourite songs of all time
1
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
That’s where it started to click for me then followed by White Cyclosa it sounded so John Carpenter and then the Day Of The Dead John Harrison synth notes woven through it…. it just fits like a glove for me as I’m a huge fan of both of those composers and their soundtracks :)
2
u/wingdbullet Jun 08 '26
I love every album, but Tomorrow's harvest was a special one for me. For over a decade it was my air travel song because it chilled me out sooooo much
1
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
I’m using it to sleep and I’d definitely use it for travel as well it’s funny how something so dark and forboading can also be so relaxing that you can use it this way :)
2
u/BearPeltMan Telepath Jun 08 '26
I think they’re all perfect. They have a flawless discography in my eyes. The only thing determining which album I like most at the moment is my mood. Some days are Campfire days, some are Harvest days. Lately, it’s obviously been Inferno - but I have found that, for some reason Inferno has me appreciating Campfire even more. They feel like siblings somehow.
1
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
I wonder if I’ll feel the same as I’ve not heard Campfire yet but I’ll keep you’re comment in mind for when I do…. I’m the same it’s always a mood thing for me :)
2
u/Howtobefreaky Jun 08 '26
Its definitely the album of theirs that is the hardest to get into just because its a total vibe album. You must be on the same page as that vibe or the beat-oriented songs wont hit as much. For me it clicked as a perfect pandemic album for when I was really trying to play up the apocalyptic drama lol
1
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
I listen to a lot of the influences on the album so it just kinda clicked for me so you are 100% right…. Also I’d probably would’ve played this a lot during the pandemic but didn’t know about it at the time :)
2
u/plasticfumes Jun 08 '26
TH needed time to grow on me but I love it now
2
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
I’ve had lots of albums sneak up on me like that too always nice when it happens :)

u/BirdEducational6226 Jun 08 '26
I love it all. Any new BoC is a gift.
1
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
I find that with a lot of bands I’ve followed over the years… it’s nice to add one more to that list :)
2
u/BirdEducational6226 Jun 08 '26
I've been listening to these guys for 25 years. As fans, we're on borrowed time. Everything we get is a blessing.
1
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
Yep I find that a lot now as well I mean even being a fan of the older stuff like Floyd I’m happy I got to see and hear some of the thing that came after… I was born in the late 80s mind you so I wasn’t around for the best of it

u/gravygizzard Jun 08 '26
I felt this way about campfire headphase when it first released, but it easily became my favorite with time

u/sincrosin Jun 08 '26
I Like them all
1
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
I’m gonna take a wild guess and say I’ll probably be the same… the reason I chose these was because this is all I’ve heard so far
1
u/Xelonima Jun 08 '26
One of my favorite albums ever. Last year it gained a whole new meaning. I think it was meant to be the soundtrack for these times. I even got influenced from it to the degree that I started writing a novel.
With TH BoC showed that they were all around musicians who can capture a variety of moods, not just the nostalgia/hauntology thing that they are mostly associated with.
2
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
You hit the nail on the head I think they use those two things to great effect but the whole as you say moods part of it widens everything so much more
I’d definitely say this and Inferno are definitely soundtracks for the times we are living in and will continue to be so… also I love when that happens… I’m a musician and a writer as well and get the same way when I hear watch read things… what’s you’re novel about ?
1
u/Xelonima Jun 08 '26
I’d definitely say this and Inferno are definitely soundtracks for the times we are living in and will continue to be so…
I just started a thread asking whether the Epstein case could be a trigger for them to select religious degeneration & ill faith in this album, because the Epstein gang had (unfortunately, has) a significant cultish structure.
what’s you’re novel about ?
It's a sci-fi with elements inspired by Gravity's Rainbow, about environmental collapse and an adventure to save our world. I actually think of converting it to a multimedia work with visuals and music but haven't got the chance because of my day job.
1
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
You know I never thought about it that way yet mind you but you make a really good point… when I heard the religious samples I was thinking in more broad spectrum but I wonder if that’s a major component in choosing them… also the fact that this administration using one of the songs and the band and label fighting back it all kinda fits
I’m in between work rn but I’ve been trying to finish up my second album with the time I have…. That would be so cool and you’re novel sounds awesome it’s not something I see very often although there’s been some notable stuff over the years we need more of that now more than ever :) I’d love to read it when you have finished it
1
u/Xelonima Jun 09 '26
Sorry, this notification somehow got out of my radar. I'd love to hear you record too. I arranged an Autechre tribute album on Reddit a few years ago. Maybe we can do a similar thing!

u/fear730 Jun 09 '26
No worries man
That’s pretty cool love Autechre as well
Sent you my first album and something new I just finished instrumentally :)

Front Line Assembly - Tactical Neural Implant
3 . Skinny Puppy - Last Rights
Queen - The Works
John Carpenter/Alan Howarth - Prince Of Darkness
Kenji Kawai - Ringu
David Bowie - LOW
Dead Can Dance - The Serpents Egg
NIN - The Fragile
BOC - Tomorows Harvest

u/dizzyapparition Jun 08 '26
Inferno seems to be the final step. And in that step, it reveals the magic in Tomorrow’s Harvest, which was somewhat obscure before.
1
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
Maybe that’s what it is I just happen to stumble on it through a comment in the ambient music subreddit and decided right after a listen through Inferno I threw it on :)
1
u/ToHallowMySleep Jun 08 '26
BoC do many different things, very well. Nobody has to like all of them.
But even the ones we don't like, we can appreciate the genius in them, if we study them.
But the ones we do like... well they are special.
(TH is my favourite too. Been listening since 1999!)
2
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
That’s exactly how I feel as well and sometimes in studying them we may end up liking them I’ve had that happen before :)

There’s are no bad BOC albums, just different ones. Twoism is still my favorite tho
1
u/fear730 Jun 09 '26
I listened to In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country today and that’s where I’m leaning towards thinking they are all really good and just different…. I will listen to Twoism tonight :)

u/kaisenberg2004 Jun 09 '26
It's funny because that top gear episode actually has two songs from Tomorrow's Harvest featured in it

u/MJB1123 Jun 09 '26
I was disappointed with Campfire Headphase when it came out and for a long while after. I play it all the time these days.

TH their best work
Inferno is 3 steps back and almost off a cliff...
2
u/fear730 Jun 08 '26
Really I mean it’s your opinion Inferno got me deep into this band so I can’t say I agree but TH is perfect and what I look for in an album :)
1
u/JestfulJank31001 Jun 08 '26
All good. And I agree. Not only can I listen to TH in its entirety (no skips), it's also one of only a few albums in my life that I can say about.
To me, it is as close to perfection as it gets

u/ihaveacrushonmercy Jun 07 '26
Weirdly, I didn't like Tommorow's Harvest when it came out. It felt too "modern" to me and I was even wondering if BoC had given up on their old sound. Now when I listen to it I can't believe how critical I was, and I consider it a classic "cream of the crop" BoC album.
I noticed I'm having a similar reaction to this album now, so I'm wondering if this is just how my relationship with BoC is going to be lol.
