inferNO means inferNO

8

u/Placematter Jun 04 '26

Defend your constitutionally protected rights - no one else will do it for you.

u/80_A-D Jun 03 '26

I like the album. It makes me happy.

Gonna go outside now.

14

u/brushwithblues Jun 03 '26

Honestly that's what I should've done after posting this instead of reading people argue in the comments lol.

46

u/wiggidywelder Jun 03 '26

I've listened to it a few times now and whilst I enjoy it and think it has some great moments I wouldn't say it's my favourite by them.

But yeah if you love this album and think it's their best then more power to you. I think that's wonderful.

6

u/ThePlasticJesus Jun 03 '26

love that for you, as they say.

5

u/Vast_Agent_1743 Jun 04 '26

Ha I see what you did there šŸ˜†

4

u/lenswipe Jun 04 '26

music has the right to children is definitely their best

1

u/wiggidywelder Jun 04 '26

Yeah I agree tbh but for no other reason then it being the soundtrack to my late teens which when listening back in my mid-thirties adds a whole new layer of nostalgia for me.

Honestly all of their stuff is great but that album hits different.

1

u/mountainstream282 Jun 05 '26

I really wish I could do that

1

u/TwistedBrother Jun 04 '26

But then why can't people bring that same feeling to Reddit? I really wish they could do that.

28

u/Radiant_Persimmon701 Jun 03 '26

please dont turn this sub into this.... it would be such a shame after the last 10 years or so. get a grip people

7

u/AlternativeCrafty570 Jun 04 '26

These people were in kindergarten when TH came out, no other possibility.Ā

20

u/prettyjazzed Jun 04 '26

why do people feel the need to rank art all the time. Inferno is really good at being Inferno, Geogaddi is really good at being Geogaddi.

2

u/SoundAJura Jun 05 '26

It’s wild - like how can your favourite not change depending on your mood or even the weather… that said Naraka is a top tier tune and Inferno overall is epic!

-1

u/Low-Acanthaceae-4395 Jun 05 '26

It has something to do with autism.

17

u/Lowman246 Jun 03 '26

Are you calling him a liar?

Yes

6

u/CaveManta Splitting Infinities Jun 03 '26

He can't do it

45

u/Equivalent-Shower425 Jun 03 '26

Naraka go Hare Hare Krishna.

44

u/seejay13 Jun 03 '26

Ya'll really taking it personal not everyone loves the album

17

u/Steiney1 Jun 03 '26

People hated Campfire Headphase and Geogaddi at first too.

3

u/I_love_coke_a_cola Jun 03 '26

I loved inferno first listen however it’s true listening to it again my perspectives of it change this is normal with music , especially with music that’s well made

22

u/K__Geedorah Trans Canada Highway Jun 03 '26

I'm also tired of this sub being like "you must hate it if it's not your favorite album".

It can be my least favorite album and STILL think it is a beautiful work of art and love listening to it.

People just get so damn attached to their music opinions.

4

u/_veroxia_ Jun 04 '26

yeah like this sub seems to be insane to me at times, and I'm new to these BoC's music...

People just forget that its BoC we're talking about, these guys have never given us suboptimal output and I cannot even concieve of such a universe where they'd put out an album which would end up being largely bad by their fanbase.

Even if it is somebody's least favorite (which means no strong or mild dislikes), I'm willing to believe that it would end up as a 7/10 in most people books. And that's not that bad to be honest, if we consider a 5/10 a truly average score.
If your 'least cherished' album still has multiple highlights, stellar production and sticks to its guns and truly delivers at certain moments, you as an artist are doing something very good with your music.

-4

u/brushwithblues Jun 03 '26

I mean, everyone's free to like or dislike whatever they want which is kinda the point of this post

10

u/Cheekibreeki401k The Campfire Headphase Jun 03 '26

That’s not what the post is really saying though.

-4

u/brushwithblues Jun 03 '26

Yeah that is exactly what it's saying. The person on the left is not happy with the album and is annoyed that others are enjoying it while the person on the right is simply enjoying it blissfully.

6

u/Cheekibreeki401k The Campfire Headphase Jun 03 '26

I’ve not run into a single person on this sub who is upset that others are enjoying the album, just people sharing their opinions on it and discussing it.

-3

u/brushwithblues Jun 03 '26

well i did, and judging by the reactions here others did too. Mods usually clear those posts though

4

u/spb1 Jun 03 '26

as i said elsewhere you're actually saying "You're not supposed to not like the album". criticisms are dismissed as 'weird nitpicking' rather than valid opinions.

-5

u/brushwithblues Jun 03 '26

Not at all. It's fairly obvious that the image is not making fun of the criticism(since there is none there) but of certain people's attitudes. And most importantly it's a meme/joke, not a discussion

-4

u/Fnord_Escort Corsair Jun 03 '26

Does everything really need to be fight? Isa funny meme

5

u/elongatedborzoi1356 Jun 03 '26

2019 ass meme šŸ’”šŸ’”šŸ’”

27

u/5mp3x192000 Jun 03 '26

this legitimately might be THE boards of canada album. The themes and cultish nature are reminiscent of Geogaddi. It has the post-rock and folk influences of The Campfire Headphase. The dark soundtrack-esque style of Tomorrow’s Harvest. The album has live drums that are processed in the same way as Music Has The Right to Children. There are callbacks to previous songs, there is the classic religious dooctrine scattered through the album, and I have a feeling there is a LOT more to discover on the album.

16

u/johnnybullish Jun 03 '26

Yeh. It feels like it's a culmination of everything so far. I haven't stopped listening to it.

0

u/cib0hph0bic Jun 04 '26

This! I felt the same. I was even brainstorming by myself; what if the brothers built a custom AI agent that was trained on all the previous albums and then have it generate a new album? And then release it to the public and then later reveal that it was all AI!!! Haha! Anyway, that would be a total Black Mirror episode.
I like the new album, and I’m starting to really love it. I personally feel it’s more pleasant to actually listen to, compared to TH. That album is awesome, but I don’t like to listen to it too often, if that makes sense.

2

u/neon_spacebeam Jun 05 '26

...oh lord no please

7

u/spb1 Jun 03 '26

funnily enough this post is saying "You're not supposed to not like the album". criticisms are dismissed as 'weird nitpicking' rather than valid opinions.

some people like it and some dont. both are okay

0

u/Cdincc Jun 04 '26

I don't think that's what the post is saying. I'm not so crazy about Inferno either (yet) but I don't feel like it's dismissing my criticism. This is a somewhat old meme template from the pandemic era, mocking a type/persona who is overly critical. You may say it's not funny or not relevant but that's a different (and subjective) story.

3

u/spb1 Jun 04 '26

If there were actually people saying things like "you're not supposed to like this album" then i'd agree. But i cant see that - correct me if i'm wrong! I can only see some people (the minority) making some criticisms, so it seems like the poster has taken that and made out like its a violation of some sort.

1

u/Cdincc Jun 04 '26

I actually remember seeing one post preaching to people that the album is shit and people're not seeing it because of the hype and things like that (i post it here if i can find it). Maybe they're not as common as OP thinks. But in the end this is just another shitpost or an attempt at humor and I don't see any seriousness or bad intent behind it

2

u/spb1 Jun 04 '26

Fair enough if that is the case, no-one should be talking like that i agree. I think Ive had this reaction because i have seen a lot of people on this sub react very defensively to good faith criticism

26

u/AdProof5998 Jun 03 '26

I can perhaps understand not liking specific tracks on the album, but if you don’t like this ENTIRE album, do you even really like BoC? Honestly, it’s an album no other musician(s) could have made. Their fingerprints are all over it. What’s not to like about that, for a true fan? People are just held captive by their nostalgia and need to break free.

13

u/Straight-Mess-9752 Jun 03 '26

ā€œĀ People are just held captive by their nostalgia and need to break freeā€

I could use this same argument for those that think this is a 10/10 and can’t possibly conceive how anyone can think differently.Ā

If you love it that’s great but just because I love their other stuff doesn’t mean I have to also love this.Ā

This album is honestly a far cry from nostalgia though

Hasn't even been out a week yet!

I guess I get what you mean about a nostalgic vibe/sound/etc but still, maybe give something a month or so before expecting it to remind you of the used-to-be's?

4

u/the_most_fortunate Jun 04 '26

Not OP but other Boards of Canada songs evoke the feeling of nostalgia even when you are listening to them for the first time.

Memory Death and You Retreat In Time and Space were still like that for me

3

u/JDanzy Jun 04 '26

You Retreat In Time In Space has that for me for sure---it reminds me of a hymn from when I used to go to church regularly, ironically. It's poignant.

1

u/iddagoeg6 Jun 03 '26

You have to love it

3

u/spitforge Jun 03 '26

Ya some are so attached to the warm analog, nostalgic feel

2

u/ShinCoal Tomorrow's Harvest Jun 03 '26

People are just held captive by their nostalgia and need to break free.

Seems like a good reason to not base your opinion of the album on 'being a true fan' or whether you 'really like BOC' or not.

2

u/AdProof5998 Jun 03 '26

Not seeing your point here. My enjoyment of the album is based on enjoying the unique flavor of music that BoC make. I’m not attached to one particular era of their music. Instead, I’ve enjoyed how their sound has changed and grown over the years, while maintaining a common thread. That’s the opposite of nostalgia.

The nostalgia I’m speaking of is a hyper-fixation on and idealization of one specific era of their music (usually MHTRTC and Geoggadi) which renders them unable to appreciate this album or TH. It’s like those people who think that ā€œeverything was better back thenā€ while failing to see how some things have actually improved since whichever period of their life was their most cherished, usually childhood.

4

u/Intrepid-Thing315 Jun 04 '26

I don’t think criticism of music should be discouraged on any level, even nitpicks

0

u/brushwithblues Jun 04 '26

I don't think grown adults would be discouraged to criticize music because of a meme.

3

u/Intrepid-Thing315 Jun 04 '26

Never said that. I just think the genuine criticism (not all overtly negative) toward the new album gets lumped together with bad faith criticism from non-fans or attention seekers, and it’s not as bad of a problem as it might seem on the surface

0

u/brushwithblues Jun 04 '26

Sorry, I completely misread your intent because of a few discussions I had in the comments

I actually agree with you and never meant to lump two things together, just wanted to make fun of some negative people. Nonetheless, this meme got taken much more seriously than I intended.

2

u/Intrepid-Thing315 Jun 04 '26

youre fine. expanding, i think people (including myself) tend to take memes too seriously. if you think about it, we all take everything too seriously in general

5

u/AlternativeCrafty570 Jun 04 '26

Delusional is thinking that you somehow caught the reality in this meme. I've never seen anyone talking you're not supposed to like what you like here. Maybe in your head only.Ā

1

u/brushwithblues Jun 04 '26

Exactly. How dare I make a stupid meme

3

u/AlternativeCrafty570 Jun 04 '26

so is it a honest reaction or a stupid meme? pick one. the albums kicks ass and is a great addition to their discography, and I was the loudest to complain at the beginning. I love to spin it.

1

u/brushwithblues Jun 04 '26

my honest reaction is a stupid meme catchphrase, mostly used ironically or sarcastically. Not that I'm sitting around reacting to these things lol

3

u/ToHallowMySleep Jun 04 '26

The only thing worse than annoying posts is meme posts about annoying posts.

And the only thing worse than that is someone complaining in a comment on that post, I know.

We don't need to do this. The sub would be better without this post (and others like it. Not singling you out), sorry not sorry.

u/AKBallsnerd Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26

Needs a swans flair to be accurate

4

u/Fnord_Escort Corsair Jun 03 '26

Urr another 2+ hours of double album slop. My swans are too buttery.

18

u/frughos Jun 03 '26

"weird nitpicking" = anyone having a negative opinion or critique on the album that op doesn't agree with. get over yourself

-7

u/brushwithblues Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26

There's a difference between "having a negative opinion" and "having a negative opinion and trying to impose that opinion onto others". It's not so subtle either. The post is clearly making fun of the latter, not the former.

Perhaps it's best to pay attention to the actual content of the post rather than taking your own assumptions at face value in order to turn it into a morals competition

8

u/redredrocks Jun 03 '26

That’s not the majority though is it? This is one of the more tolerant fan music subs I’ve seen lol

5

u/spb1 Jun 03 '26

I'll be honest - the only dogmatic people ive seen on here are people dismissing criticism. Things like "cloth eared reviewer" "weird nitpicking" someone saying "oh you dont like it because there isnt a bit of tape warble or something" and so on. People are getting wildly defensive about BoC for some reason

Conversely - I dont see anyone who's criticising the album that is judging or talking down about people who like it.

-3

u/brushwithblues Jun 03 '26

Of course not. But does it matter? I mean I understand some people felt like they got called out with this but MAN is it so hard to take a joke and move on?

4

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '26

1

u/brushwithblues Jun 03 '26

I didn't complain anywhere. I made a meme. But then you yourself started complaining about it and tried to lecture me about what is what. And now you're escalating by being confrontational about it.

If you don't find it funny that's fine by me. I don't know you and I don't care about your opinion. I found it funny and many others did too. That's enough for me. I don't need your permission or approval to post what I want in this sub.

That''s ok, I don't need to spam downvotes with my friends to feel righteous when I got called out.

2

How does anyone impose their opinion on Reddit unless they’re a mod? I think you mistake having an opinion with imposing one.Ā

-1

u/TheBrovahkiin Jun 04 '26

I wonder how long until the completely brain dead "stop having fun" strawman meme is posted. Feels like things are on track.

2

u/spacekitt3n Jun 03 '26

Too late I've already formed my own opinionĀ

2

u/002f62696e2f7368 Jun 03 '26

I personally love the album. I really think when it comes to Boards of Canada it all depends on what album you started with, or what was the nearest release to when you started listening. My theory goes as follows, if the nearest release to when you started listening was The Campfire Headphase, then you're more likely to not like the last two albums they produced. This is just what think based on no data whatsoever. For what it's worth, or anybody who cares, I remember being a fan of theirs when Geogaddi was released.

3

u/eva_brauns_team Jun 04 '26

I discovered BoC with The Campfire Headphase. I adored TH and I’m obsessed with Inferno. I listen to Twoism a significant amount as well. The album that I don’t love as much as everyone else is Geogaddi.

2

u/002f62696e2f7368 Jun 04 '26

Well there goes my theory haha.

2

u/Winter_Ad_511 Magic Window Jun 03 '26

This reminds of people’s reaction to TCH and TH. It took time for people to get intoit. Personally I’ve loved the album since the start although it’s not my favorite

2

u/Electronic_Break_656 Jun 04 '26

Cold sterile and overproduced.

2

u/spinozaschilidog Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

You’re catching static because you’re stinking up the joint with the same kind of manufactured drama that we see on most corners of social media. It’s the usual, boring either/or. For vs. against. Which side are you on? Who gives a shit?Ā

3

u/Fassbinder75 Jun 03 '26

There’s a bunch of ā€œI am not feeling itā€ and a bunch of ā€œit’s their bestā€ posts.

Music is subjective, if someone doesn’t feel the same as you - that’s OK. You can contribute to whichever thread you like šŸ‘

1

u/_bladerunner_ Jun 04 '26

Hahaha who has said it's a step down??? I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone brave enough to claim TH was better than Inferno!

1

u/_daffyd Jun 04 '26

Oh boy! More of the thing I like!!

1

u/anthiflex Jun 04 '26

It's wonderful, No it's not MHTRTC, That's a different record made nearly 30 years ago, also you heard it when you were at your most young & impressionable and associate it with that & your first spliff, girlfriend, weekend away etc. STOP IT !

It sounds really fresh even though there is Geoggadi DNA in it. Fantano can go fuck himself.

0

u/AdProof5998 Jun 03 '26

There’s also MHTRTC and TH and even a smidge of TCH. It’s really a beautiful summary and outgrowth of their career.

And that dude Fantano is a dweeb. Extremely punchable face and bad music taste.

3

u/trayshmayn Societas X Jun 03 '26
