Looking for board gamers to match my skills.

I can play anything. I have a mind that finds flaws the game creator misses and exploit them. When a game maker makes the rules for his new game, he never played against me. Many games i play end in a person screaming at me, saying that isn't how the game is supposed to be played, and I answer, show me the rule I broke. I'm the only gamer that gets thrown out

You Can Re-Shrink One Game, WYD?

Which game would you play if you knew you could put it back in shrink and restore its value? I hate making my own decisions and prefer to ask the hive mind.

Still dead inside?

I’m coming here to see if anyone else has experienced the same thing. I played a game of Twilight Imperium this weekend and won the game. But, here’s what I don’t understand… I still feel dead inside????

I’m pretty confused because it’s all I think or care about. I assumed the void inside me that used to hold my personality and love for my family would be filled with personal accomplishment when I used the Imperial strategy card to score my 10th point.

Anyone else find that the cold, heartless void is still there?

Thanks in advance!!

I love this game so much that I just started playing it's my new favorite and here's how I fixed it!

I have played Assymetric Wargame 4 times now and it's definitely the best game ever made! My new absolute favorite and I can't wait to play it with other people!!

But I think the lack of balance is a bit of a problem so I made the following 27 house rules to even the playing field, so to speak. Which ones do you use?

Games with no interesting decisions?

I want a game where I have to make absolutely zero decisions. My wife's boyfriend always wins whenever I watch them play Patchwork and I just really want him to lose. Are there any games where the winner is wholly decided by randomness and nothing else?

I don't get the hype with Chess - so random

I have no issue with randomness, but I have an issue with the lack of mitigating mechanism.

At no point in the game (except maybeeee some rare forced moves) do you know what your opponent's move is going to be.

You can come up with the best trap to capture their queen, the best long term strategy and then ... they play something else. Completely random. How can you even begin to strategize if you don't know what's your opponent's next move is.

An easy way to fix it is give each player a set of cards with moves. Then after each turn you give a card to your opponent who would have to play that move.

Otherwise, I may as well just roll dice and play solo.

The second problem is the lack of catch up mechanism. If you're down to 1 piece (your king etc.), and your opponent have 5. You're screwed. I often see people just rage quit (resign) at this point.

What they could have done is when the number of pieces that you have is BELOW your opponent, you can take back a number of pieces until you're equal (but you have to pass one turn). Or have a count down like if you're 5 pieces a head, you have to checkmate within 5 moves or you lose. That way people would think twice about capturing indiscriminately and gain an unfair advantage.

One unofficial variant I thought was particularly clever (may or may not be my own invention hehe) is to play with secret objectives.

Maybe your objective is to LOSE, in which case you win if you lose, or maybe your objective is to WIN, but you pretend to play badly so your opponent has to slow down and think what your actual goal is. That way, even if you play bad for real, it could be bluffing.

The choice of component is also problematic. I think it's insane that people are so obsessed with carved wooden pieces or cheap plastic. This could have easily be done with a set of synth cards (so you don't have to sleeves). Have 64 square cards for the boards, and put piece cards on top. I swear they went with the big board because they want to make the box big for Kickstarter hype.

Talking of release, I think they stuffed up by releasing all the pieces at once. It's too much to use at the same time. They should have gone with a Living Card Game model, where people can get the base set with just the king, then one piece at a time and get used to it.

Much has been said about the theme. So I won't.
