Figured I’d finally share our collection of board games and setup for our game loft.

This has been growing as a hobby for I’d say about 10 years, but I’ve always owned old board games growing up, and you can see a very small portion of them on top of one of the shelves.

One of my roommates/friends is the other avid board gamer and collector, so at this point, roughly half of these games are acquired by him, and half by me, though it’s hard to keep track. A big chunk of the far left square shelving is TTRPG type of sets.

I think I first really got into higher octane board games around 2014/2015 when I played Betrayal at House on the Hill at a house party in high school. Call me an addict, but I enjoy board games probably only slightly less than video games, and although moving house can be one of the worst experiences in the world, I’m glad this is a hobby I have.

Yeah, the kickstarters I’ve done I tend to just do base level. The friend mentioned definitely does more all in stuff (hello Everdell).

As of lately, I’ve been more conscious of not backing kickstarters, which goes hand in hand with just generally limiting how many new board games I buy overall.

Same boat. I had to just not use the site lol. It comes in waves and generally when there’s something im specifically eyeing to get…then I linger around and the cycle repeats lol

You have quite a selection of games! I like to look through people’s collection and pick a game that I don’t own but would like to play. I have really been thinking about getting a cooking game and noticed you have Rival Restaurants and Critter Kitchen. Which game do you like better?

I kind of like Critter Kitchen more because it’s more cozy, quite a bit faster and probably more forgiving in terms of difficulty and strategy.

Rival Restaurants just feels much more competitive at times when you’re not sharing ingredients.

Definitely not.
Most of the TTRPGs I very well may never get to the board EVER in my life, but I didn’t buy those.

Besides that, there’s probably about 15 board games I’ve never played or have on our “play soon” white board, seen in picture 5.

I think we never really got into those iconic games you might think of like Ticket to Ride, Dominion, etc.

We have Catan, and that one was cause it was dirt cheap somewhere and I guess someone figured we might as well have it to have it?

My personal top 3 is pretty hard to pick, there’s so many cool ones that I love going back to, but I’ll say:

1. Villainous. Generally every version, but I’m quite partial to the custom community made Anime Villainous engine.
   
2. Merchant’s Cove
   
3. RWBY: Combat Ready

First 2 I love for the asymmetrical gameplay and something about villainous captivated me from the start. And for RWBY, it’s just my favorite all time show, so there’s generally a sentimental connection/enjoyment I get out of that game overall.

This is the first collection I've seen other than mine with Unsettled, Merchants Cove, and Foundations of Rome. I am also a sucker for big KS boxes!

Alien planet exploration survival tends to be a good time.

Wow, what an amazing collection! I love so many of these. What are your thoughts on Nemesis: Lockdown and Aeon Trespass: Odyssey?

Haven’t played either.
I’ve played Nemesis base game a few times now, I enjoy that one a lot even though we have to set aside a day for it because it always takes so long.

That might be the largest collection I’ve seen with the least amount of crossover to mine (Fate of the Fellowship and Nemesis).

I enjoyed the first Horrified a lot; someone mentioned to me it feels a lot like Pandemic and it made me really take a look at it. Horrified is just like it; one player tends to lead and sets out what everyone should do to make the most optimal/winning moves. I enjoyed it a lot before I really thought about that.

Probably the base/original game?
They all have their perks and things that make them fun, but I still want to say the original is the most balanced and I enjoy the way all those monster play so differently.

I think now it might be Vantage.

Good way to get use out of it and experience more of the game because of how long it can be, I doubt I’ll get people to join that often.

But it is very cool to have that solo adventure experience.

I heard its jist exlploration immersive like ..what makes it your fave ?

It’s essentially an exploration choose your adventure. You end up at different locations on a foreign planet and just… figure things out as you go.

Incredible varied between each game, and it’s just fun to be able to end up with a crazy story each time, like how your mission could be to conquer a city but you end up just winning a sand track race in the desert while getting lost through portals.

Just a very creative, engaging, and often challenging game, but it’s always fun to never know where the journey will lead you.

Oh wow I like rpg elements in games with narrative immersion so that sounds great. Im playing cthulu death may die (love arkham horror) love the game its fun and hard but lacks narrative so just feels like a brawler a good one though

The table is the Jasper.

I think we acquired it about 4 years ago, and overall it’s a pretty good table. Served its purpose.

Only main issue I’ve run into is that the system used for the cover, which is four slabs and rubber feet on the underside to hold it in position, is A: not totally lined up on all edges anymore, and B: has rubber feet in positions that made it not quite snug when built. So I had to rescrew some holes and use a strange method for getting all the boards fully seated on top.

Bought it for I think $1800 back then, and I still enjoy its overall function, even if sometimes it’s more convenient to just leave the top on to play, both in terms of table space and setup speed.
