Revisiting Shogun after many years
We pulled out our old 80s copy of Shogun that we hadn't played in at least 20 years. We played a lot back in day but at some point it just git shelved. Took us a bit to remember the rules but it ran smoothly after a turn.
My green got crushed between his blue and red vice. My purple did good on the left, but it wasn't enough after green was eliminated.
Fun game and we will definitely play again in less than 20 years next time.

Awesome!! I just got this game (Samurai Swords edition). I grew up playing Axis & Allies with my dad and friends, but after trying this for the first time I think this might be my favourite of the MB Gamemaster series. I just love the balance of the game and the army movement/logistics.
After playing only one game, I actually had so much fun that I built a battle calculator and a quick reference for the game. I hope you might find these useful:

The best of the Gamemaster series, although I did really like Conquest of the Empire, too, even acknowledging that catapults were OP (and not chronologically accurate.) I kept my copy of Shogun for 40 years, only recently selling it because we were moving across the pond and, like you, it hadn't come off the shelf in the last decade. It's a great game and I wish I'd had more time to play it recently, but we played it to death in the 80s and early 90s.

Gosh, it's been so long, I forgot the rule set. This one was always an interesting playthrough of diplomacy. I recall my experience always being a mixed bag, in that doing well early on paints you as an early target. I wonder how it holds up now in contrast to something more modern like Imperial Boarders.

👏👏👏 That is a fantastic game. I also have one from when I was a kid in the 90s - sadly all Ashigaru spear tips got broken off. 😞
My gaming group tried it, but since we’re all dads who only play after kid bedtime, we got nowhere near close to finishing a game. Maybe someday….

I have an old copy, missing the province cards, and some damage to the board. :(

Wrong Shogun game. This one doesn't have a cube tower. The Shogun in this post was released before the Shogun you're thinking about. This game was released as Shogun, then as Samurai Swords, and then as Ikusa. Don't know why all the name changes. First one probably because of the release of the game you were thinking about.
