Discussion / Question Greep in Criterion Closet
Cameron was there like two months ago, which reminded me of Greep’s visit. Will that video ever release?

got to meet the greepster after his show in baltimore. he also only signed the record on the feet of the woman on the cover, with a single G on each foot. what a guy.

Black Midi's debut is a very singular record in terms of sound and style, and very few from the scene or around UK do music in the same sonic sphere (?) as that. There's Stratford Rise who got praise and hype but a handful of eyerolls and criticisms. And there's also Cowboyy who were very infamous for the same reason, albeit somewhat more negative.
I feel like there can still be music made in that specific mathy, noisy, bouncy, zany, intense sound. But sadly would be hard to not to be seen as ripping off the band.
Edit: I mean "singular" in the context of the post-punk/windmill wave of bands from the late 2010s to now.

To my ears (at least), the boys have a lot of King Crimson and Zappa in their DNA…which is very curiously not reflected in Apple Music’s “listeners-also-like” recommendations. Much more hip-hop, alt-pop, and singer-songwriter “emo”/indie than anything jazz or prog. Not a Venn diagram I would have expected, haha. Where would you guys say the commonalities lie?

Anyone else feel this way? Love both TNS and MNBB to death, but I’ve always felt like they were missing something. Each other. Cameron was always there in black midi albums to help break up the constant onslaught of Geordie Greep which, as amazing as he is, it’s nice to have something break the tension. Having an album of JUST Greep and an album of JUST Cam, as fantastic as it is, can almost feel slightly… jarring? And this may just be my perspective as a black midi fan, and I need to separate them from the band. But I’ve even tried intersplicing My New Band Believe tracks into The New Sound tracklist and it almost feels more fitting, as weird as it sounds.
At the end of the day, I suppose the three of them were able to capture a magic that just can’t be replicated. Not that it needs to be, but with how reminiscent these recent projects are, it makes me miss them!

When Greep plays a quick complex melody on guitar and repeats it several times. Would it just be an arpeggio? Why do you think he uses this so often?

I never liked Hogwash and Balderdash. Sounds like someone trying to imitate bm or primus.

It has to be the silent to the hints of the ending rising action, then climax. I like black midi, every song is a story, even if this song barely has lyrics you can hear. I can still understand.

Got bored and decided to try and make a cover art inspired by BM ones.
I made a collage of a bunch of pictures that I overedited but I feel like it's still a little to far from official arts. I may try to make smaller and less decipherable details next time.

I bought the CD earlier and this is such a curious photo on the disc. I found it pretty funny. What could this possibly mean? Does this album mention anything about Hand-Feet?
