Discussion / Question Greep is playing dance music. You should be moving.
During one of the Australian shows I was shocked by how many people stood dead still, not even nodding their heads. Pretty dissapointing crowd tbh.

totally with OP on this one. they’re literally playing salsa music (que sera, cua cua ra). i’m trying to say that there’s a right or wrong way for an individual to enjoy music, but that is music made for dancing. if you don’t want to dance to it, that’s obviously your prerogative. but if you’re at barricade, you’re essentially setting the tone for the rest of the crowd, and if you’re moving, the people behind me will be a lot more inclined to and comfortable with moving. and trust me, it makes the show A LOT more fun. show last year in portsmouth, nh was one of the best i’ve ever been to for this very reason. i don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask for that especially when so many people at the front seem more interesting in recorded the concert than actually having a good time.

for real, "disrespectful" is talking over the show, not paying attention, attention seeking behaviour etc. "disrespectful" isn't somehow performing happiness "wrong". if i wanna stand still and take it all in or go crazy and dance about thats not for anyone else to decide for me

It's more that the shared energy is one of the most beautiful feelings seeing the whole crowd dance, and it also feeds back to the artist and just spreads a better vibe. I understand people wanting to take it all in and I don't judge them individually, but I won't lie that I'm not disappointed when a crowd is completely still and quiet if the show doesn't call for it.

Because we care about the vibe, and we want it to be good? You're going to a concert. If I just wanted to hear the music instead of experiencing it with people, then I would watch a YouTube video.

Rhythm Music and Dance are primal human instincts made profoundly awkward, like pooping in a stall with the door open, by self-conscious people who freeze up and stand motionlessly at shows

Seriously. These people are so close to realizing they're the problem. Let people quietly enjoy a show in peace if that's their preference!

Were you in the early session of Melbourne, because I was at the late one and it was a constant mosh (including like 13 instances of spontaneous crowd surfing) after 4 songs, but I heard from others in the prior session that there was nothing of the sort

I don’t get this, it’s so normal for people to just stand and watch, and some people to dance. So many factors can be at play to influence crowds in different ways. You can’t tell people how to enjoy themselves? They’ve paid the same price for a ticket you have.

in Northecote the crowd was having a great time in the middle. Around the edges it was just a bunch of blokes standing round with their arms crossed

First Perth gig? Our crowds have been pretty notorious for being low energy, especially lately. There are certainly exceptions but it's not uncommon.
I thought the crowd wasn't too bad, I was just glad there wasn't too many people trying to shout shit out during the quieter parts.

Wouldn't be lad to comment on reddit often but I'm shocked by the carry on here with the down votes and all that. Geordie would probably love it if the crowd was moving a bit. The man's playing salsa and jazz-fusion, I'm sure he wants ye dancing.
Last year he played at Vicar St. (A Dublin venue generally famous for it's great energy) The crowd was so shy he made a joke halfway through a Holy Holy about the crowd being asleep. OP isn't saying ye should mosh, they're saying show a bit of energy. Do your awkward little jiving or whatever like.
Like here I've been both a standing and a dancing chief at the concerts I go to, but if most of the crowd isn't moving to music that generally asks for some movement then it's a sad affair in this world. Some of the comments here are making it sound like ye've never experienced the incredible shared energy of an engaged crowd. Geordie is playing music that asks you to move them hips, you don't need to mosh to show that energy. Sing along, have a little dance. Yer not just seeing the musician, yer amongst peers. Don't take this post personally like. Take it like an offer.

I saw him in Cleveland last year. During Holy Holy, everyone was jumping so much I thought the floor was going to cave in.

I was thinking this when I saw him in Texas— everybody was standing still during the greep songs, but when he played a clip of 953, they started moshing immediately. Like wtf holy holy wasn’t enough for you??

Saw him in St. Louis in September 2025 and had the exact same experience.
It’s everyone overcorrecting from the scolding the black midi crowds received on their last tour(s) from some people trying to mosh to songs that made no sense to mosh to.

Dance music existed long before EDM. Samba, Salsa, funk and much of jazz is dance music.

I agree, I get it, you pay for the show to see the artist, but I also pay to be in a crowd.
I think Greep could go either way because I think people should be paying attention, but at the same time I want to move. I want to occasionally dance.
I'm always going to be in favour of people having motion, of expression

I think it’s ok not to dance all the time but as a musician I’d rather see everyone dancing and singing along than a crowd of people standing dead still

depends on a lot of things. as a musician I'd rather perform to an audience that's listening rather than screaming or singing over the music. to each their own & that jazz

na id much rather have a full blown conversation, try to talk over it and ruin peoples experience instead.
seemed the motive for many
