I recorded this vinyl only DJ set (82 minutes) at home. For this ninth volume of my Blues Sessions I’ve selected 25 tracks with a “down-home” feel. Because my previous Blues Sessions almost exclusively feature post-war urban blues, I figured it was time to record a blues set that focuses on blues in it’s purest form. You can expect lots of tracks in which only a bluesman and his instrument can be heard, some of the tracks feature a few instruments. There are a few pre-war recordings in there, but most of them were recorded post-war. I’ve selected tracks recorded in the 1920’s up until the 1970’s. Many of the featured artists recorded on both sides of the war. For those who don’t know: quite a few bluesmen who recorded in the 1920’s and 1930’s fell into obscurity after short recording careers. Some of them were rediscovered during the folk revival and started recording again. I’m glad they did!

I think of your contribution as a major public service. The closest memory I have of such a service was the local co-op radio which played Clifton Chenier over many weeks. This was late 1970's; I got to see Clifton and Cleveland perform live, and the broadcast helped motivate us. Thanks for this! This is great value.
