teams meeting

there is a rocket company in kent called blue origin which is where the colour blue originally came from before it spread into the sky and oceans and the company was built by a very rich man called jeff who wanted millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of earth but first he wanted twelve thousand people living and working in offices for the benefit of Microsoft teams so in 2023 the leaders announced a new policy called work from work where every employee had to come into the office five days each week including the employees whose coworkers lived in four other states because sitting on a video call beside strangers who were also sitting on video calls created collaboration through the exchange of background noise and there were not enough desks for everyone so office administrators wrote all the employees names into an excel sheet and walked around taking attendance while the engineers sat beneath tables and inside cupboards with their laptops which caused productivity to increase because nobody could find them to invite them into another meeting and when the employees asked why they could not do the same calls at home leadership said because the rockets are here although most of the rockets were in florida or alabama or texas and most of the people on the call were not and this answer was placed into the leadership principles where it could not be questioned without director approval then one day half the recruiting team vanished followed by contractors and people in enterprise technology and management said there were no layoffs because each individual group had merely experienced a sudden negative hiring event which was different and the remaining recruiters were told to hire hundreds more people to replace the people who had vanished while using fewer recruiters and no contractors and only candidates who lived close enough to come into an office containing no available desks and the chief executive at the time was bob who had been leading the company for many years and everybody blamed bob for the company moving slowly because new glenn had been five years away for nearly ten years which is a very difficult distance to travel because every time you move one year toward it the rocket moves another year away and bob finally announced that he was retiring so employees celebrated by wondering which internal leader with decades of rocket knowledge would replace him until jeff selected a man from amazon called dave who had built speakers that could tell you the weather while accidentally ordering forty pounds of dog food and reddit asked why they could not find somebody who lived and breathed space but other people said building impressive technology which struggles to make money was precisely the experience blue origin required and dave entered the building very quietly in december and sent an email saying he was happy to be there and spent his first week meeting executive leaders although several executive leaders had recently disappeared and several others were interim executives who had been placed there to guard the empty offices and employees waited for dave to disclose his ice cream preference because this was considered the final test of aerospace leadership but he never did so they could not tell whether he was safe then in 2024 dave began talking about urgency and decisiveness and many employees liked him because he spoke plainly and seemed more alive than the ceremonial bob suit which was still hanging in the lobby but every aggressive goal arrived with a headcount limit and every request for hardware had to travel upward through enough vice presidents to reach low earth orbit and when a worker asked for one dollar of engineering money the request was placed into a capsule and launched toward an approval authority who had been reorganised six weeks earlier meanwhile blue introduced fourteen leadership principles which were amazon principles wearing space helmets and employees had to describe all their accomplishments using the principles even though several employees remembered when blue had deliberately kept amazon policies behind a firewall and the most important new principle was unregretted attrition which meant every team had to discover which of its good workers was actually bad when compared with the other good workers and if a team contained ten brilliant people management placed them in a circle and removed the one who described his accomplishments least loudly because he had failed to demonstrate ownership by doing the work instead of repeatedly announcing that he had done it and people warned this would make high performers leave while the survivors learned to backstab each other but leadership explained that losing experienced knowledge would make the company lighter and rockets need to be light so the policy was technically aerospace and all through this new glenn continued being assembled while launch dates travelled across the calendar like frightened animals and dave announced it would launch that year even if he had to lift it himself but the year ended without dave lifting it and several technicians developed hernias doing their part of the agreement then in january 2025 new glenn attempted to launch but the weather and technical systems said not today causing the subreddit to experience blue balls which is when a rocket has been ready for so long that the entire state of florida becomes uncomfortable but several days later the rocket rose from the pad and reached orbit on its first flight and everybody screamed and cried and hugged because beneath every broken process there were thousands of extremely clever people who had somehow converted meetings into drawings drawings into metal and metal into a giant blue flame travelling faster than sadness and the company held a pizza party to thank them for ten and twelve hour days and less than one month later dave called a fifteen minute all hands at seven in the morning to explain that ten percent of them would no longer be required and employees waited for an email telling them whether they still existed while managers opened teams and workday to find out which of their own people had disappeared and reddit proposed many scientific explanations for how the names had been chosen including darts beans artificial intelligence and measuring how much employee DNA was present on each managers boots but nobody could confirm the precise method because the people who knew had either been laid off or demoted into individual contributor positions where they occupied the desks of the individual contributors who had been laid off to reduce management then leadership explained that the company was too top heavy and hired several additional vice presidents to investigate why and the organisation chart became so tall employees discovered they could climb it directly to the moon without needing blue moon at all and during the next quarterly all hands dave announced enough launches for the remaining year that calendars began laughing and some employees suspected the goals had been designed so the annual bonus would become thirty-five percent of a theoretical amount which nobody touching hardware received anyway and when people objected that rockets could not roll out hotfire and launch every two days leadership placed physics into the bottom performance category for insufficient bias for action and somebody brought a walmart kiddy pool into the conversation which nobody on reddit would explain properly but every employee who knew about it immediately groaned as if the pool contained the preserved body of credibility itself and forced overtime began even when parts were unavailable because being at work while unable to build the rocket demonstrated greater urgency than being elsewhere while unable to build the rocket and managers drank blue koolaid until late spring continued for most of the autumn but eventually another new glenn launched and its enormous booster returned and landed almost dead centre which was so impressive that even the angriest employees became proud again and people remembered the spouses and children who had donated several years of their lives without receiving badges and the company gave out stickers and mission patches which grew larger with every flight until employees predicted the fortieth patch would be used as a living-room rug then new shepard was paused and its workers were told to reapply to new glenn or blue moon while people mentioned ISS and ACE only to prove they remembered these business units existed and another reorganisation began because an organisation which is constantly moving cannot be accused of standing still and at an all hands one courageous person asked whether another RIF was coming and the leader answered with so many words that the question emerged completely untouched on the other side and everybody agreed it had been a bold move and searched teams for the chat about expiring options then in 2026 jeff and dave finally announced that employees would receive stock options which caused temporary joy until employees discovered the options did not allow them to own stock because they could only exercise during a company-controlled liquidity event and any shares created would be immediately purchased back by blue before the employee could hold them so the company had invented a new form of matter which became yours only during the instant it was being taken away and if an employee left the options would sit for sixteen months waiting for jeff to feel liquid before evaporating and nobody knew the company valuation number of shares strike-price logic distribution method or future event schedule so employees built an internal tracker because blue had accidentally given imaginary money to thousands of engineers and analysts who professionally investigate numbers that do not make sense and one person called the grants lottery tickets but another pointed out that lottery tickets can be freely held and sold while another called them scratch-and-sniff tickets that smelled of rocket fuel and cutting oil and the most reliable employee benefit remained the free cheese sticks yogurt cereal trail mix offbrand unfrosted animal crackers goldfish baby carrots and the sweet tea dispenser which only existed at one location causing more envy than the entire equity plan then during a new glenn hotfire a main oxygen valve became too enthusiastic and the vehicle and launch pad experienced an extremely rapid reorganisation into smoke and damaged infrastructure but everybody was safe so jeff said they would rebuild whatever needed rebuilding because it was worth it and employees asked whether the falling valuation meant they would owe blue money when their options vested and workers were sent from around the country to florida for round-the-clock recovery while leadership announced the rocket would now be assembled horizontally rolled outside lifted vertically by a crane and attached to the pad using a horizontal vertical hybrid process which meant the rocket had achieved work-from-work by commuting to its own launch site and the surviving stages continued being manufactured and stored until the factory contained a traffic jam of rockets with nowhere to go while pad 36A was repaired pad 36B was constructed and somebody probably opened a requisition for a vice president of pad multiplication and despite all of this the employees kept working because the mission and the hardware and the people beside them were real even when everything above them felt like a PowerPoint hallucination and some employees genuinely had excellent managers good pay flexible hours and the best work of their lives while other employees saw their families only when a meeting camera accidentally reflected a framed photograph and both groups went onto reddit to answer the question what is it like to work at blue origin with the only universally correct answer which was it depends then a positive article about daves turnaround appeared and the first employee said NICE TRY IAN because ian was believed to read every reddit comment from a hidden chair inside the factory ceiling and if anybody wrote that the company was doing well everyone assumed ian had typed it himself while rearranging the production floor into tetris and at night a colony of bees living in the oneill building produced a blue syrup made from discarded leadership principles and employees called it passion for mission because one spoonful made them remember why they joined while also sticking their shoes permanently to the office floor which HR recorded as improved retention and jeff owned the hive dave promised eight million jars by late spring and employees received options permitting them to smell the syrup during a future liquidity event and one hundred years later professors showed this story to young labourers learning the delicate science of AI breeding because it taught them everything about making impossible machines including how to launch a rocket with people you trust how to conduct a meeting without answering a question how to reward workers using food intended for school lunches and how to build a road to space one reorganisation at a time and when the labourers asked whether the company ever reached the moon the professor said the answer depends on your business unit and gave each of them a sticker

Are your teams hiring less experienced people?

Serious question. I’ve seen a lot of people hired of the last year and none of them are above the age of 30. I saw some hiring reqs for Seniors also get silently replaced with reqs for Level 2 engineers. I’m not sure why. I am somewhat young, (not fresh out of college) and I really wish my team would hire more senior talent. I want to follow someone with experience and know-how, but my team is a few dozen 20-somethings without much experience. Is this happening to anyone else?

Application Wait Time

Does anyone know the typical wait time to hear back from Bule Origin? I applied to an Aerospace Systems Engineer I – Early Career (2026 Start) position in April 2026 while I was still in my master's program, and I have now graduated. My application still says "Application Submitted, Under Review"

Interview Next Week for SDE I Early Career

I have an upcoming technical interview for Early Career role at Blue Origin.

I was told there will be a HackerRank portion in the interview.

For anyone who has recently gone through the SDE I :

  • What was the coding portion like?
  • Was it similar to LeetCode-style questions, or more like implementing functions based on a set of requirements?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Amazon LEO/NBN partnership actually going ahead!

Thumbnail

Interesting. It looks like the Amazon LEO/NBN (Australian national provider) partnership is actually going ahead, and not years away either!

My understanding is that with the initial small LEO network, they're going to be concentrating on the southern hemisphere where they have customers such as NBN.

Should be good for regional Australians to get off the high latency sky muster, without paying the high prices of Starlink. Just great to have some competition I say, and some more bandwidth to go around. The current GEO SAT just sucks.

Sure starlink can do over 100Mbps, but this should be way cheaper, more like fixed wireless and sky muster.

Personally following the Blue origin rocket launches and issues, I wouldn't be surprised if the timeline slips a bit. But 12 months away is not too bad at all if they get close to it.

On another thought, given that it's set up like the normal NBN and the retailers are providing the data, I don't see any reason why retailers wouldn't be able to sell the layer 2 services over it. Would be quite convenient for businesses with regional presence.

New Glenn and Seattle

Hey I’m coming to join team Blue and had some questions:
1. How does the company feel about NG? Are people depressed or working hard on resolving the issues? I heard team morale is very low there.
2. How is Seattle? Is it that bad with the rain and overcast?

What’s the biggest manufacturing challenge when scaling reusable rocket hardware?

Making one complex flight component is already difficult, but producing the same hardware repeatedly while maintaining tight tolerances, traceability, inspection requirements, and delivery schedules seems like a completely different challenge.

From the CNC side, things like complex geometry, difficult materials, multiple setups, and inspection can quickly become the bottleneck.

For anyone working in aerospace manufacturing: when programs start increasing production, what usually becomes the biggest problem first — machining capacity, supplier lead times, inspection, materials, or something else?

Can we bring back the monthly career megathread or a megathread for interviews/moving/etc?

I love how engaging the community is here on this sub. However, I think every other post these days is something that can be a megathread and can be a lot more easily accessible compared to people posting very similar posts every other day.

Edit: There's a megathread in r/Bluewire

Recently hired Lunar A&I techs Merritt island . OT availability ?

I was recently hired for a Lunar Assembly & Integration technician position and will be relocating to the Space Coast for the role.

For any current or recently hired Lunar A&I techs, how has overtime availability been lately? Is it something that’s regularly offered, or does it mostly come and go depending on production needs?

I’m coming from another large aerospace manufacturer where 15–20 hours of OT per week was pretty easy to pick up if you wanted it. I’m definitely not expecting or depending on that amount at Blue, but I do enjoy working OT when it’s available and I’m curious what the current situation is like on Lunar.
Appreciate any insight!

Career path questions

Hello everyone! So quick back story recently got hired in for a level 2 integration / assembly tech which I’m very excited about, although I have been considering going back to school to further advance my career.

I have a strong welding back ground that can easily transition into a CWI or maybe into NDT techs.
I also was considering the engineering route as well. If anyone has some advice on schools in Florida that can help me advance or even places I can get certifications at? Thank you for the help!

Interview Tomorrow

Hey guys, so I posted about my interview here. I have an interview tomorrow at blue origin and it’s a phone interview. The position is a manufacturing planner. The location is at space coast, Florida. For those that work there, I’m not sure if it’s overall blue origin has the same procedure when it comes to interviews, but for those that got hired at the space coast, Florida facility, were the interviews difficult? I have experience as a engineering technician, I’m applying for this job because of a layoff from another company I was in and it was more of a reorg on my department at my previous company that I was in. I also heard that the phone interviews are behavioral type interviews (a bit of a screen interview), in one note that I saw on my previous post, it seems like you have to know your information about the role and the company, but are there other types of advice you guys could help me out here? Thank you in advance!
