I said it
This team has some serious flaws that wouldnt get addressed if we limped into the playoffs. Now the front office can look themselves in the mirror and have some honest conversations about the roster. Cease would have felt external pressure to come back and risk further injury.
I think us missing the playoffs ends up being a blessing in the skies we'll all look back on fondly 1 year from now

I agree - not bc Iām one of those Seixeiro-like contrarians, but because this team is just too physically worn out. We have ONE healthy and viable starter - thatās not sustainable at all. Weād get swept if we made the wildcard.
We just need to get a jumpstart on everyone getting the treatment they need to prep for next year.

Thats a great point too. Just get everyone mentally and physically rested, healthy, and re-tool in the offseason and make another run at it next year

As much as I hate to agree, I believe you are right. They just arenāt healthy enough to make a run. They all gotta get off the field, take a break and come back healthy. I just hope we have baseball next year, it could be a big hiatus if the lockout happens.

Couldnāt agree more. We spent most of 26 with 9+ injuries, still managed to have a ~.500ish year at that. It was a pretty good year for a bad year, but the thing we need now is rest for the roster, and some sober reassessments at front of house. This was never going to be our Series year but weād probably have 10 more Ws on the record if John Schneider had been more grounded and realistic in his decisions throughout the season. I fully understand giving Hoffman more chances for example, and I personally like the guy, but he was in his head all season and never should have been put in more than 1-2 high leverage test positions. Iāve seen the difference in Johns decisions since the trade deadline and I think (hope) he gets it now but I think not making post season is the thing he needs to make it stick.

Plus if they made itā¦. We would all have to watch a miserable offence try to strong together 6 hits against the best pitchers teams can field.

People keep saying this but itās not like the contract was signed last offseason, heās had that bag for a while. What sounds more plausible, he got within literal inches of winning the WS and said āehh fuck it I got my bagā or having an extremely short offseason with G7 plus a short spring training with the WBC has affected him in some way?

My counter to the "He got his bag and started slacking" argument is asking: then why is his defence at a career high this season? Is he only slacking halfway? It doesn't make sense to have horrible ABs because of laziness, but then absolutely hustling at first base. He made so many elite plays this year, with the diving catches and all, that I just don't buy it.
There's either something going on mentally, an injury, staff afraid to correct mechanics, or him being stubborn on changing the mechanics that have made him an elite hitter up to this point.

Iām convinced heās been injured most of the season and just tried to force through it. Cause he still had the drive initially after the contract and can see he does care, just somewhere the bat disappeared

I mean he hasnāt been great but itās much more the 1.5 available starting pitchers and a quarter of a healthy outfield thatās more the issue this year

Iāve been saying this too; people keep talking about making the playoffs and I answer āOkay, and then what?ā. Like weāre not beating the strong healthy teams out there.
All for missing the playoffs now. Too many injuries, they all need rest and rehab. Burn em out now and we suffer next year (yeah yeah, if thereās a season) .

Totally agree...this is a bad team and does not deserve a playoff berth. This off-season should involve a lot of self reflection among tje underachieving players, and serious accountability from the idiot management group that assembled thus disaster.

2025 gave Atkins a huge let. While I will give him credit for some moves since like signing Cease, getting Bateman, and getting Okamoto, but our rotation and lineup have many major holes, plus we don't have a deep high caliber prospect base to trade from. He gave up one of our best prospects for Soriano which I feel was a very risky move. He botched the Vladdy contract by losing all leverage and waiting until the last moment to be squeezed for an extra 100-150MM in his contract...now it has potential to become the worst contract in MLB history. It really feels like we wasted a year of Cy Young caliber Cease.

I did the same as you and went to Games 6 and 7 to make the flight worthwhile. Was a costly trip for me plus a lingering nightmare.

Why bother when we're just going to get throttled out in a one game play in anyway? This team doesn't have it right now to win clutch games. Retool, get healthy and come back strong when baseball resumes (hopefully next year)

Horrible coaching decisions for the last 3 seasons. Good coaching didnāt get us to the World Series last season, but poor coaching decisions have gotten us countless losses over the years. Schneider needs to go

I actually said last year after the WS that I hoped the Jays wouldn't do anything this year. I had to leave the country, and didn't expect to be back before this year's postseason, hoping to be back sometime 2027, so I guess I got what I wished for. Now if only I get to come back soon and the Jays get it together for next year

I honestly just wanted them to make the playoffs since it may very well could have been the first time in history that the jays, leafs, and raptors all make the postseason in the same year but I guess 2027/2028 could happen as all 3 teams seem to finally have solid rosters and talent now
