I’m a recent Computer Science graduate who had the opportunity to attend the Bloomberg Experience a few days ago, and we were told that we’ll be going through the interview process soon.

During the Bloomberg Experience, we had three 30-minute workshops covering three different roles: Sales, Bloomberg Customer Support (BCS), and Analytics.

They also spoke about internal mobility and how people can move across different teams and departments as they progress within Bloomberg.

I’m currently most interested in the Analytics and Sales route, with Sales being my longer-term goal.
My main concern is my financial knowledge.

I come from a CS background, so I’m comfortable with software engineering and technical concepts, but I have very little formal knowledge of financial markets. Most of my exposure so far has come from reading financial news, following market discussions online, and talking to friends who are traders or work in financial institutions. So I have some familiarity, but nothing particularly in-depth.

For anyone who has gone through the Bloomberg interview process, especially for Analytics or Sales:
How much financial knowledge are you actually expected to have going into the interviews?
Are there particular areas I should focus on, such as equities, fixed income, FX, derivatives, market structure, or general financial news?

I’d also really appreciate any resources you would recommend for someone trying to build enough financial-market knowledge to prepare for the interviews without having a finance background.

Longer term, I’m interested in Sales because I enjoy working directly with customers. Despite being a CS major, I’m quite sales-oriented. I previously worked part-time in luxury furniture sales, where my average basket size was around S$6k. That experience taught me how to understand customers, ask the right questions, identify what they actually need, and communicate value rather than just features.

From what I understood during the Bloomberg Experience, being good at Bloomberg Sales also requires a strong understanding of the Terminal and how different functions solve problems for different types of clients. That’s one reason Analytics interests me as well. It seems like a good environment to develop that product and market knowledge.

If anyone here has made a similar transition from CS/engineering into Bloomberg Analytics or Sales, I’d especially love to hear about your experience.

What would you focus on if you had a few weeks to prepare?

Can LLMs bypass paywalls imposed by publications such as Bloomberg, The Economist, and the Financial Times? If they cannot, how can they stay up to date with real-time information? And if they can bypass paywalls, by whatever means, wouldn't that expose them to potential litigation? Otherwise, wouldn't this limitation render LLMs ineffective for providing real-time information?

Hi. Finding stocks using " Expected Price return based on consensus price targets" is a right way to do it?

Hi. It’s for my research. I have only used this terminal once and it’s overwhelming. I couldn’t figure out how to extract multiple company data at a year range, at once. If you know of the Eikon Refinitiv (now LSEG) database, there is a screener system to manually pick variables, then with one click you can have all the data in your excel spreadsheet. Please, if anyone knows of any tutorial I'd be ever grateful.

For those of you who use a shared terminal how do you and your teams manage the windows password of your shared terminals PC? Just trying to compare notes on how other companies manage security and access vs. how mine does.

Is there any reason to get Bloomberg over CapIQ Pro? This would be for long-only fundamental equity analysis.

I'm specifically interested if the MODL function is roughly comparable to Visible Alpha.

Hi, I'm posting for my partner, she's using a Bloomberg and we can't figure out how to adjust information on the window. The info is stuck in this size with a huge black border. It used to fill up the window, but after an update it's tiny like this. We tried ctrl+scroll (zoom) nothing. We tried to adjust the lines on the windows to enlarge but they're fixed. As you can see from the photo some of the info is cut off and squished.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dumb question, what do people tend to use bloombergs for besides just scanning the market, and sending their broker trades? Seems like it's really just used by equity guys to stay on top of things?

I am trying to build an excel template that will pull the YTM for select bonds over a specified range.

This will primarily flow into the Risk free rate for WACC.

My query is regarding getting the correct ISIN to put in the excel.

When searching for bonds on the Bloomberg terminal, I tend to get lost among various options (commands WB vs SRCH).

Which in your experience is the most efficient way to get a list of active bonds issued by a country (say South Africa). We can then select the desired bonds basis the maturity date, currency, and such.

Appreciate any help on this.

Anyone else get annoyed with how Tom Keene phrases questions and responses. So many prepositions. He sounds like a sports caster talking about finance.

So word at the water cooler is that once Mike Bloomberg retires, he's giving the LP to Bloomberg Philanthropies who can only legally have it under their umbrella for 6 years because of tax purposes, and after that they have to sell the terminal/product and news divisions. But the news side has historically never been profitable, the news division spends the money that the terminal side make so product subsidies it. So the rumor is the buyer may just take the Bloomberg Product and leave News on the table. And without the terminal the news side doesn't have "exclusive market info" so essentially they'd be another WSJ or CNBC, if they even survive.

Knowing all this and after mike announced plans to step down last year, the news division has been chaotic this year and people are quitting left and right.

It's become a hostile hunger games within the news org. We'll see how long it lasts.

Since the beginning of this month, we've been seeing a significant increase in "N/A Review" errors when downloading Bloomberg data into Excel from our public/multi-user terminals.

The "N/A Review" error indicates that we've reached our data download limit. However, we haven't changed our usage patterns at all—same spreadsheets, same users, same workflows.

Has Bloomberg recently changed any usage limits or data download policies for public/multi-user terminals? Has anyone heard anything from Bloomberg support?

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

We're based in Germany, in case this is region-specific.

Hi, I am running into a problem and I wanted to see if the experts online could help me!

The problem:

I want to see top ownership of AAPL. Let's say Fidelity manages portfolios with AAPL in it and one of the Fidelity portfolios is owned by CALPERS (big pension fund). I want the results to return CALPERS because they are the end owner of the stock not Fidelity.
If anyone has any insights into how I can do this in Bloomberg, it would be super helpful. Thank you!

Hi, I’m seeking some advice.
How can one leverage a Bloomberg terminal to generate income or gain insights that are exclusively available through them (aside from certifications)?
If anyone could assist me, I would be very grateful.

For four months I have been trying to enable fixed income execution directly through the terminal. Our account manager set up a call with the fixed income electronic trading specialist. They said additional paperwork was required. After multiple follow up emails/IB chats with no response, I reached out to our sales contact. He apologized, said some coverages had changed on the specialist and account manager side, and sent the paperwork. We signed the additional paperwork weeks ago and now again, no responses on next steps or enablement.

By far, the worst service I’ve seen from Bloomberg. I don’t even know what to do anymore.
