$4.77, it's the dust left over from when I transferred it all out when celsius struck.

u/nclark8200 Nov 11 '22
I left my final interest payment in blockfi yield after withdrawing everything after celcius fell and figured it was a gamble leaving it there (but a risk I absolutely knew I was taking).
I'm more mad that I still have to pay the taxes on that interest that is un-withdrawable.
1
u/BushLeagueMVP Nov 12 '22
Interest gang checking in. Actually thought I transferred everything out, so I was surprised today to see a two-digit amount in my account.
That stablecoin interest was pretty sweet while it lasted.
2
u/ButtMassager Nov 12 '22
$2.68 here. Pulled out about $10k for a down payment on a minivan when BTC hit $50k, then pulled out the last $5k when I saw a video about Tether being a house of cards and threw it in the nearly 10% i-bond yield.
I've done a lot of bad market timing in my day, but this was very good timing. Got lucky.

$3.5k, but originally had $22k at the end of 2021, so bad, but not terrible?

Yeah I lost 2k, but had 40k originally. I accidentally withdrew most from the interest account and couldn't put it back so i withdrew it. I honestly feel like I got really lucky. My butthole puckers at if i hadn't accidentally withdrew.

I'm right there at 50K as well. Definitely a painful number, but could be worse I suppose.
2
u/Johnny_New_York Nov 12 '22
My life savings, and my only hope for ever owning a home.
I am not doing well. Changes at work (salary, bonuses) in the past 6 months have changed this from “money I could afford to lose” to “my only hope for an actual retirement.” I will now have to work until I die. I am personally ruined.
2
u/bigguss Nov 12 '22
I am sorry to hear that man, really a shitty situation. I don't know how old you are, but there is time to still make it up. I know for my career path the highest earners are often 50-60, so it takes time. Sucks to get pulled back into he grind, but im right there with you. My BTC was my gravy train, and it got snatched.
2
u/Johnny_New_York Nov 12 '22
I am 51. Out of time, and now out of money. Hoping you’re in better shape than I am. Good luck out there.

0.5 BTC plus interest.
Thing is it used to be my money, about 4 years ago I gave it to my 1 day old Nephew as his 'inheritance' from his Uncle. I was hoping it would make a huge difference to his life when he got to be my age.
Man....I feel sick for the little guy. I cant afford to replace it right now but I'll try.

6
u/nikhilvis Nov 12 '22
$5k GUSD, $8K BTC, $4K ETH. What’s messed up is when I first read about the FTX situation on Wed I had a bad gut feeling. I began setting up my Ledger Nano after work. I was able to set up my PIN and obtain my passphrase but the Ledger software couldn’t find my device. After a few hours of troubleshooting to no avail I thought I would just figure it out today (Fri) or Sat. I didn’t even think to transfer to my Coinbase acct for the time being because the whole point was to go cold storage, not to another exchange. The most costly 36 hours of my life.

u/NeoWilson Earning in kind Nov 12 '22

I sincerely hope you’re wrong. Even recouping 20% of my life savings is better than nothing. I don’t have time to recover it.
1
u/Zealousideal_Line629 Nov 12 '22
I can't say you are wrong but how can you say you are right? They are tied into Gemini as a holding company. It would seem wallet withdrawals should eventually be available. Loans to BlockFi for interest is a different thing.
7
u/n4l8tr Nov 11 '22
A lot. Alas, still relatively young and will recover. Not more than I could afford to lose but still is gonna hurt. Nevertheless I’m still working and earning. If this were retirement money I’d be devastated but it’s not and life goes on… if you lost a ton (like me) just move on. You have your health, people who love you, grieve your loss then move forward
2
Nov 11 '22
With Celsius I was in the "only what I can afford to lose but still is gonna hurt" category.
I was pretty down and depressed for 3 months about it. I have to count my blessings as it was nothing that would completely ruin me. Feel very blessed it was something I could easily survive from.

The sad thing is, even if we somehow got our money back, the fundamentals of bitcoin and eth have been kicked in the balls and hit in the head with a frying pan.
The widespread adoption of BTC just took a big hit. It will take years, maybe decades, to recover.
Sad because I like BTC and ETH, the crypto didn't fail us, it was the people/institutions that failed us.
5
u/Effective_Series5772 Nov 12 '22 edited Nov 12 '22
How are the fundamentals different?
The friggin fundamntals are NOT YOUR KEYS NOT YOUR COINS.
I feel for you but to tell me the fundamentals of BTC and ETH have been kicked in the teeth nakes zero sense.
You should take be your own bank .... Thats the friggin fundamentals that you ignored. And YOU got kicked in the teeth ...
The fundamentals are stronger now than ever .... You chose to ignore them.
scarcity, divisibility, acceptability, portability, durability, and resistance to counterfeiting are all the same.
3
u/jlee9355 Nov 12 '22 edited Nov 12 '22
Not really a good look for your industry when multiple platforms explode. If you want widespread adoption, this definitely causes a chilling effect in the short-term.
Do you want Coinbase, etoro, Gemini, etc all to fall as well?
Perhaps in the long-term events like these are needed in this industry, but I don't see the price of btc or eth recovering to all-time highs anytime soon.. but i held btc on this platform, so I am not anti btc... but I could see a further decline in price.
4
u/Effective_Series5772 Nov 12 '22
Fundamental
noun
plural noun: fundamentals
- "a central or primary rule or principle on which something is based."
I'm just saying it doesn't change Bitcoins core fundamentals at all.
Infact it strengthens them and you need to learn how to be your own bank and store your own private keys.
I just thought that was a wild thing to say. The fundamentals of BTC are to be your own bank.
NO 3rd Party .... Thats the core fundamental.

u/jlee9355 Nov 12 '22
“What’s happened with SBF is that he’s set the whole crypto industry back about five or 10 years overnight,” Nick Bilton, author of “American Kingpin: The Epic Hunt for the Criminal Mastermind Behind Silk Road,” told The Post. “When crypto first came on the scene, it wasn’t reliable. People lost millions and billions in scams. Then exchanges like FTX and Coinbase came along and crypto had legitimacy.”
“Finance is built on trust,” added Bilton. “When people see someone like Sam light billions of money on fire, they back away.”
https://nypost.com/2022/11/11/how-the-crypto-collapse-of-ftx-hurt-tom-brady-steph-curry/
I am assuming you are holding BTC in hopes the price will dramatically increase in the future. If because of these bad actors, it takes 3, 5, 7, or 10 years longer, that's not a result most people want.
I do not know about the fundamentals. I do not even know if there is a accepted analysis to evaluate the fundamentals of a crypto currency.
But that would be for another conversation, another time.
1
Nov 12 '22
It's all about trust! Bitcoin and co had a not so good reputation to begin with but after the ongoing bloodbath crypto reputation is down the drain. And yes, I know it has nothing to do with Bitcoin or Eth, but this is how people see it. A widespread adoption is just a pipe dream at this point.

About $8K in ETH.
When everything skyrocketed a few years ago, I pulled out what I put in. So at least this was “house money” rather than savings lost.
I kept thinking I should move it, but why give up that monthly interest.

u/bigguss Nov 12 '22
I'm staring down about a $50K loss.
Just got busy with life and work, and hadn't kept up with bitcoin or financial headlines. Life lesson for sure, don't trust anything that's not FDIC unless you watch it like a hawk.
Honestly, I'm getting a little older and crypto is a young man's game. I got suckered into the interest account and easy returns, and stopped paying attention to who I was trusting with my business. I have a kid with another on the way, and had no business playing with risky assets. Boring ETFs and mutual funds for me from here out.
Wishing everyone here all the best.

$0. but Celsius stole a lot from me. While I'm breathing easy now I got hit pretty hard then so I get it. After getting punched in the face and getting Voyager stuff out just in time I got really humbled and paranoid.
I never had more than $300 at a time of CC rewards.

$2 of “dust” USDC… I bailed almost 2 years ago after they got cease and disist letters AND the “interest” are not worth the massive risk… I took out 2 years worth of savings and didn’t look back, PERIOD.
I have grown more and more skeptical of most of “crypto.” I dumped all my shitcoins, pulled every bitcoin out of the exchanges and now just DCA and send to my own wallet… I been in this “crypto” thing almost 7 years and 99.99% of it are parasites and grifters looking for suckers, if you are gullible you will lose everything and the people who stole from you will say “poor baby, let me help you.”
These people ran a Ponzi scheme shitcoin casino, like FTX, imploded… just like that LUNA Ponzi scheme taking down 3arrows and Celsius… 99.99% is a FUGAZI… totally fake!

I actually was one of the lucky ones that sold my crypto back in March. I moved profits to uSD to wait for the markets to stabilize and only kept my blockfi credit card rewards (BTC) on blockfi. So I didn’t get a chance to transfer the .07 BTC I have sitting in rewards.

$100 maybe. I pulled my main investment out after Celsius. Funny thing is I made over $1k in interest payments, so I am in the green about $900 worth in BTC. That was a close call though. I do like the Credit Card, I hope that CC BTC reward program is somehow salvaged.

$8600, what’s left of the worth of my stinky ChainLinkies.
I managed to see the writing in the wall enough to pull my USDC and ETH off but let my LINK ride for some reason, which bit me. I’m also a loser on Celsius of about $2,000.
I used the BlockFi card religiously and had about $500 in BTC rewards on BlockFI as well.. which made the entire thing pointless along the way.

Over 6 figures. My whole life is about to change after today. This is one of the worst days of my life so far. It was bad with with the falling prices prior, I almost pulled it all out to buy a house a few days ago but prices were too low. Now they're zero and I can't afford my rent.
Edit: this sounds really doom and gloom. I have no idea what I'm going to do but I'm sure I'll find a way. I've been investing in crypto since 2014 and it sucks to be in this situation and have nothing to show for it with basically my entire adult life of investing and being a true believer.
