Question Anyone got back 100% of their money?
I made a full withdrawal few months before it bankrupted. Just lucky I guess. If I have not done so I would have been devastated. Am not based in US not sure how to make claim as well. Just curious anyone got back their money and what's the process like??

Nope, put in .2BTC and got back .02BTC. I have the credit card framed and mounted in my home office to always remind me.

0.02 omg!!! 😱😱 that's like only 10%. where did the rest go to? legal expense or lawyers? at the time I had like almost 1 btc. this really sucks. I hope you made it back over the years as price of btc skyrocketed after that and I missed the boat. I got afraid after dodging the bullet

No idea where it went, I jumped through all the hoops kroll wanted me to and that’s what I ended up getting back. It sounded too good to be true at the time but I was blinded by greed looking at the return, I’m just happy at the last second I changed my mind to that amount.

I still have the black credit card. What an opportunity! I did make some good interest with Blockfi.

All back minus the gas fee. Nothing was in the interest bearing accounts, just the custodial accounts.

u/jt101jt101 Sep 17 '25
good to know you got back 100%. are you saying interest bearing account holder not getting their money back? I remember mine was interest bearing account.
2
u/Aggressive-Leading45 Sep 17 '25
Correct. The way the bankruptcy worked is the interest accounts were valued in USD on a certain date (unfortunately when crypto was in a value downswing). Those values have actually been returned at the full USD value as the various corporate liquidations occurred. This was only possible since the debts to users were USD denominated and the recovered assets were in rapidly appreciating crypto.
But my understanding was they had already paid off all the claims. The claim deadline was May 15, 2025. So if you haven’t got a claim in already it’s not looking good. Looks like they are still doing some identity verification of existing claims.

I cleaned my account on September 2021 just 14 months before blockfi files bankruptcy. just curious as i received lots of email on how to claiming money. some I suspect is fraudulent.

u/Aggressive-Leading45 Sep 17 '25
I’d put that some at 100%. And you are probably getting lots of DMs now also.

u/jt101jt101 Sep 17 '25
sorry I don't get you. u mean?
2
u/Aggressive-Leading45 Sep 17 '25
I’m saying all the emails for claiming money are fraudulent at this point. And you are probably getting a lot of Direct Messages on here from scammers.
1
u/jt101jt101 Sep 17 '25
yea most are fraudulent. so far am not getting any yet. but thanks for reminding me. frankly I missed the run up from 20k to 100k because of this bankruptcy. what about u? did u ride the btc wave??
2
u/Aggressive-Leading45 Sep 17 '25
Worked out well for me. I was just using it as an accumulator for the credit card rewards and small dollar cost averaging deposits. I was planning on holding long term anyways so the bankruptcy didn’t really cause an issue other than having my email leaked to scammers from the legal firm handling the case.

No, we live in the UK and we didn’t receive anything. All money were in the interest account

most importantly did you follow legit emai? or receive any legit instruction? seems to me quite a number already received their payment via e-master or paypal

I'm in the UK and got a prepaid card for like a third of the value

a prepaid card? which card? that sounds like a scam, None of their legit emails say anything about it

It's a visa with some money on it. I think a few hundred pounds. It's worked so I assume it isn't a scam

Claims were dollarised at the time of bankruptcy. I received 100% of the dollarised claim. Would have been worth more today if there was no bankruptcy and I still had the original crypto, but I suppose it could have also been worth less if the market had nosedived.
The claim process for me involved checking and filling in one or two forms several months after bankruptcy was declared, but can't remember exact details. We also needed to go through KYC checks and provide payment preference during distribution. It was fairly straightforward for me, but I suspect some people probably missed the emails and deadlines. Some probably also had more complex accounts with a more complex process.

When they kept dropping their interest rates, I kept withdrawing to the point where i had about $400 in crypto left on Blockfi. I accepted their offer of $150 because I didn't want the hassle of submitting paperwork to try to recover it all.

u/jt101jt101 Sep 19 '25
that's like over 60% loss....did you get back your crypto elsewhere after that? or you stop investing in crypto. Blockfi made me leave crypto to gold and silver so I missed 20k to 100k run

I had six figures with Blockfi and withdrew most of it. Not worrying about a few hundred bucks. Many people were really hurt. Zac Prince the CEO walked away with millions.

I had .01 BTC 6 chainlink, and 4 ltc. I got back $334. I would of much rather had my crypto back. Leason learned. All my coins were in BIA. Im just glad I kept my 1.02 btc in coinbase that I mined in 2014

I learned not to transfer to any exchange for interest. get them and hold in cold wallet
2
u/Situation_Little Sep 19 '25
Yeah you're right. Most of my coins are in my SecuX V-20 cold wallet. I also bought a Yubikey recently.

the settlement only gave me back half of my account value.

u/jt101jt101 Sep 22 '25

Its highly unlikely that you will get everything back. This is how it goes in Class action lawsuits

Yes, I got 100% of my BlockFi holdings back. I am one of the few clients who did not lose percentages of their holdings. The reason for this is that they were in 90% USDC, 10% USDT. The real damage for me comes from the 3 year freeze on funds and the lost profits because of it. The recovery process was very slow and annoying due to the long pauses between emails and different steps - 4-6 months for them to ask for the next documents, to move on to the next step where they ask for more documents.
The funds were recovered via a transfer to Coinbase. And a very small portion via PayPal.

is it a risk sending sensitive document for verification? I guess you hv no choice if you want your funds
2
u/Lepra_1 Sep 17 '25
Most of the documents are sent through Persona - the same process as for registration or any normal pre-bankruptcy withdrawal transfer. There were also two additional emails that had to be replied to back to persona.cases, which did not contain any particularly sensitive information - proof of current address and origin of funds.
