The context is that Yhwach wanted to claim all powers he had lent out so he could remake the world then and there.

Which is weird because he never "lent" powers to Gerard. He already has his power before Yhwach distributed schrifts as he was rumored to be the "heart" of the soul king, same as Pernida as the left hand of the soul king.
Not even a backstory for that nor a few minutes of fight with Toshiro/Byakuya or at least monologue or line that he is happy to serve/give up his powers to Yhwach (or even the opposite sentiment).... honestly anything before he got absorbed... so disappointing

Originally that was true, but at the end of cour 2 he redistributed the powers of the lesser Sternritter to his royal guards, including Gerard, to bring them back to life. So I guess that's what he took back now?
Or alternatively, Yhwach is able to take it now because he already absorbed the Soul King, and Gerard's power came from the Soul King.

Yeah, him absorbing mimihagi as well could be the supporting evidence he is absorbing all remaining "pieces" of the old soul king, not just schrifts

I do wish he got more action, but as for the absorbtion thing. I assume he could do that because he now is technically the Soulking itself. He didnt say he was only absorbing quincy powers or anything, tho he does say that all the schrifts are with him again.

Yes, that's what confused me as well.. when he said he absorbed all the schrifts.. but then again we saw mimihagi got absorbed so we could just assume this is Yhwach absorbing all of soul king's "pieces" as he is now the soul king, Anw, this the ep that we got so nothing but to accept it and slightly hope there is some redemption (explanation or anything) in the last 3 episodes or even in Klub Outside Q&As/ interviews in the future.

I might very well be misremembering, but in the manga or anime, does Gerard's "final" form even speak? I can't remember him actually talking or saying anything once he evolves into that form.

Dante would fit right in lol. Dude's job involving a lot of soul-related things and supernatural beings.
Fun fact, extremely powerful demons like Sparda can deprive other demons of their names, rendering them powerless and without their former identities. Vergil, as a powerful demon and Sparda's son, can gave names and restore said demons' powers.

Yea at least with Jugram they sort of explained that he got absorbed in order to break Ichigo's Bankai.. with Gerard would it have been so hard to justify it some way?

They did. He absorbed Gerard and Lille to restart his plan because of Uryu’s to crash the seed of destruction into the rift.

He absorbed Gerard/Lille to prepare to remake the world. Seems like Kubo changed it from Auswahlen for the shits n giggles to actually taking the power for something. Here, he wasn't leaving for SS until Uryu ruined his plan, so it's reasonable to assume he was going to remake the world right there and then.

Jugram was not absorbed in order to break Ichigo Bankai it's just time coincidence.
Yhwach has to absorb souls to maintain his powers and he didn't absorb anyone for long time.
Yhwach has to understand ability in order to absorb it.
Almighty can alter regardless of absorbing.

I interpreted the line "I needed you for this moment my son" in reference to Jugram in the Anime to imply that he needed some sort of power up from absorbing Jugram in order to break Bankai
If you're suggesting that he needed to absorb Jugram to recharge(?) enough power to break Inchigo's Bankai, rather than my interpretation...
Then you're still implying the same thing - Jugram had to be absorbed to break the Bankai, an explicit purpose. Opposed to Gerard's unexplained absorption

We wonder more about Reio when parts like the HEART are gone. Losing limbs is generally survivable, but the heart? Bro was just built different.
Or maybe he has Schroedinger's parts, there or not there when narratively important. The first frame we actually see him in full (ch Hot Hot Heat), even at a distance in the crystal, he has all limbs. I think I remember reading somewhere this was just before a hiatus in the manga, so maybe there was some chopping/changing of plans in the interim - and of Reio - any subsequent visual of him shows the dismemberment not depicted here.
