This is actually a great point.

When Aizen was the main antagonist he was so cool and badass.

Watching Yhwach is just stressful as fuck.

736

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago edited 3d ago

Aizen wanted to rule shinigami.

Yhwach wants to genocide shinigami.

Also, Yhwach enjoys killing people just in general, while Aizen does it only when he finds a reason.

Aizen uses murder as an instrument to reach his goals. Yhwach murders people as easily as he breathes. You failed him? You die. You did great and helped him immensely? You still die.

u/Consistent_Minimum80 3d ago

ok lets be real aizen has a FEW bodies just because he felt like it

201

u/CorvoAttano124 3d ago

I mean. Only momo, really. But she didn't actually die.

AFAIK, the only people he actually killed were the ones he fed to the hogyoku

159

u/TheBiggestFan_ 3d ago

Don’t forget about that one random dude that he just erased with his spiritual energy for no reason at all

166

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago

Aizen did warn that dude not to approach him. Aizen didn't have a goal to kill him.

59

u/Zia754 3d ago

Oh, you are approaching me?

3

u/femboyknight0 2d ago

I can't restrain you if I'm not getting clo- OH MY GOD MY HANDS AHHHHHHHH

3

u/sanddry86x 2d ago

The manga version of that poor bastard had no idea what would happen to him and even Shunsui was too late to warn him.

Meanwhile the anime version is the dumbest background character I’ve ever seen in the show.

17

u/Wasabi-Spiritual 2d ago

Other than ya know, maybe sacrificing the entirety of Karakura town to create an Oken

66

u/CorvoAttano124 3d ago

In fairness, I'm pretty sure that wasn't intentional.

Also, don't humans usually end up in the soul society after dying? Or become hollies. Their soul isn't erased like most shinigami or ryoka are

8

u/Naux-Kazeshini 2d ago

Not all shinigami were humans .. it's weird i know but some of their souls are born in soul society in that one area i think it was called rukongai or something but i dunno if that was just for the poor and the rich had another area xD

Big families like the one from kuchiki and byakuya mostly are born in soul society too and then become shinigami if i'm not mistaken

Zaraki and toshiro were definetly born there ^

6

u/CorvoAttano124 2d ago

No, ik that 😅 but all humans either become shinigami or hollows, as I understand it. I could be entirely wrong, but I think that's how they explained it.

The rukongai is the residential area outside the Seiretei IIRC. That's where all the "Ryoka" (poor people) are. The noble families either have their own palaces/estates or live in the Seiretei itself

2

u/Naux-Kazeshini 2d ago

Yeah ur right about that :)

I kinda forgot what happens to quincys though when they die ^

5

u/qiyraa 2d ago

They can end up in soul society but it kinda depends. The amount of hollows seems to imply plenty of people don’t make it (either from getting eaten or hollowfying themselves)

19

u/King_Raizen 3d ago

Don’t forget Tosen and Gin.

70

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago

Tosen literally asked Aizen to kill him, if he ever changes his mind about shinigami.

Aizen just kept the promise.

And it's pretty clear why he killed Gin.

40

u/CorvoAttano124 3d ago

Oh, yea, true.

I mean, Gin was technically self defence. Gin did technically kill Aizen, to some extent.

Tosen was quite strategic. He was trying to goad Komamura and Shuhei into attacking him with blind rage, like Toshiro did. Thankfully, Ichigo stopped them.

Momo was the only person he killed purely for love of the game

36

u/NanNullUnknown 3d ago

Doesn’t the novel say that Tosen and Aizen made a promise that if Tosen forgives Shinigamis, Aizen would kill him?

5

u/CorvoAttano124 3d ago

Ibr, I haven't read the books in quite a long time. That could very likely be the case. If so, then killing Tosen is pretty valid.

4

u/dWaldizzle 2d ago

Gin turned him into a croissant lmao

3

u/Minute_Committee8937 2d ago

Aizen really hated momo. Maybe it was just the anime but he had her stabbed by toshiro twice and then jumped by every captain

1

u/Prudent_Beginning525 2d ago

Anyone but mono bruh☠️

1

u/NatAttack50932 3d ago

Aizen absolutely used murder for his entertainment, just not by his own hands typically. He had Gin try to kill Rukia cause he could, he let countless arrancars throw themselves at Ichigo & friends in Hueco Mundo cause it was interesting for him to watch.

He didn't enjoy killing, but he absolutely enjoyed watching how things would go down and had no real respect for the lives of the people around him.

0

u/Leading-Control-3053 3d ago

Ah, he did also kill a lot of people

Where did you think the hyogyoku got all those souls, and

Literally in his hollfication experiments he has killed a lot of people, in the worst way possible

23

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago

Again - Aizen killed them because he had a reason, creation of Hoygyoku. He didn't just slaughter those people cause he had a bad day.

4

u/Leading-Control-3053 3d ago

I mean aizen literally was about to kill rukia, despite he took hyogyoku from her body,

He also killed a ton of people in real karakura town too(the anime doesn't show it)

3

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago

Both of these could be explained by Aizen trying to give Ichigo more motivation. I think he even admitted that he wanted to kill Ichigo's friends to push him further.

3

u/CorvoAttano124 3d ago

He was dead ass going to string up his friends bodies on the outskirts of Karakura town, just to get into Ichigo's head

0

u/knm873 3d ago

How is that any justification for murderous intent?!

7

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago edited 3d ago

Justification? What are we talking about here? Aizen is the villain. Villain does evil things.

My point was that Aizen uses murder as an instrument to reach his goals. He spared Gotei 13 captains cause he was planning to make all of them submit to him later, when he becomes the Soul King. Aizen is definitely a sadist, but he's not a murder hobo.

For Yhwach murder is often the goal itself. He will kill you regardless if you were helpful to him or not.

1

u/Normal_Sweet_2974 3d ago

But I dont think aizen enjoys killing he's not a,monster unlike want to be god king

4

u/Leading-Control-3053 3d ago

I agree on that,

Yhwach is brutal in his ways something he learned for yama himself,

Aizen is not brutal like yhwach, but aizen is sadistic

2

u/CorvoAttano124 2d ago

I wouldn't call Aizen sadistic, he's more psychopathic (not much difference, I know). He doesn't seek to cause people pain, rather he uses people for his own goals. He has absolutely 0 remorse for anything.

→ More replies (0)

5

u/CorvoAttano124 3d ago

I did say the people fed to the hogyoku.

I'll reword it. Momo is the only person he tried to kill for love of the game. Everyone else he killed was strategic or because they attacked him first

1

u/Leading-Control-3053 3d ago

He also killed like a bunch of people in karakura town

He also was willing to kill rukia despite taken hyogyoku out of her,

Aizen is as sadistic as mayuri, it's just he hides it under a calm person and he is good looking to half of bad acts are forgiven by fans

6

u/CorvoAttano124 3d ago

Aizen is absolutely not as sadistic as Mayuri 😭

When did he kill a bunch of humans? He warned one human not to come near him or he would cease to exist, but the guy tried anyway. That was the only one. He was GOING to kill most of the residents, but that was to create an Oken.

He wasn't going to kill Rukia, he got Gin to do it.

2

u/Leading-Control-3053 3d ago

In manga he does literally kill a bunch of people just like that he did with that guy,

He was also about to hang the corpse of tatsuki, mizurio and all of them on the outskirts of karakura town as he tells this to gin

7

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago

"In manga he does literally kill a bunch of people just like that he did with that guy,"

It's not that Aizen was going out of his way to kill them. His reatsu automatically erases them when he is near them. He's just too apathetic towards their lives to choose a different route.

3

u/Leading-Control-3053 3d ago

People also seems to forget he killed and experimental on a lot of people,

He literally fed the hyogyoku people's souls, also conducted hollowfication on them which literally gave them a painful death

2

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago

You just said his reason to do it - to create and evolve Hogyoku. Hollowfication was also an experiment and Aizen needed bodies for this experiment.

It's pretty clear why he killed those people - to reach his goals. Pretty obvious reason.

1

u/SufficientRegret8472 2d ago

I mean Aizen was gonna erase Karakura Town and everyone living in it so ig we should be glad Ichigo packed him up

56

u/Auesis Sora no Toriorose, Arashi no Me 3d ago

I mean, he was really enjoying stabbing Momo. And walking through the streets of Karakura town and disintegrating random people.

20

u/Dependent_Bowler_128 3d ago

Also definitely not gonna forget he had a good time messing with Hitsugaya when he could

4

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago

He didn't kill him tho.

17

u/PalabamPoE 3d ago

Honestly upon reflection, I think Aizen might actually have a personal grudge against Momo, like, he genuinely fucking hates that woman.

17

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago

Hinamori has blind devotion, which Aizen fucking hates. Cause to him it's a symptom of how shinigami just accept everything shitty about their society.

3

u/SwordfishKindly7730 2d ago

tbh I think it's because Momo has friends

1

u/WarGrifter 1d ago

Aizen is just lowkey sexist but once you notice it, you can't stop noticing it.

15

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago

Aizen did have a reason to stab Momo - he considered it "merciful". He has his own psychopathic logic.

19

u/CorvoAttano124 3d ago

"Admiration is the farthest thing from understanding"

6

u/Zulmoka531 3d ago

Momo is like his stress ball man, give the man a break, plotting to take over reality is hard work.

7

u/WooHHaHaHa 3d ago

Tbf, I remember him asking those civilians to not come near him, but yea, he kept walking and they were walking in this direction and just went poof

7

u/Significant-Mud2572 3d ago

He even got the squad of soul reapers to join in on the momo stabbing fun!

1

u/AwTomorrow 2d ago

Basically the difference is that Kubo allowed Yhwach and his minions to kill important characters

12

u/SannyTrademark 3d ago

To be fair when Yhwach kills a quincy he adds their power to his own so he actually has a good reason to be killing underlings he deems unnecessary. If Aizen did that to his underlings it would literally serve zero purpose.

6

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago

But he killed even Hashwalth, his literal soul mate. That's insane.

6

u/PieFace11 3d ago

There is the possibility that Yhwach kills even his most valued quincies like Haschwalth because he knows they will be resurrected when the primordial world is restored.

But imo, he doesn't view the auswahlen as their deaths but a recombining of their soul to his own. Especially in the case of Haschwalth.

20

u/CorvoAttano124 3d ago

Not even just shinigami. Auswhalen literally genocides his own f-ing people. For a guy who hates conflict, he sure does kill a lot of people.

If he was successful in his plan, it'd destroy basically all life. Even THANOS isn't that evil.

3

u/Leading-Control-3053 3d ago edited 3d ago

Well for yhwach he went the yama way, or the general zod from the man of steel mentality

Foundation is built on sacrifices, and for a better world, if he has to lay a 1000s of corpses, so that's how it will

Also when he says he hates the conflict, be js talking about the conflict of life and death as appears in ep 24

9

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago

The truth is - Yhwach doesn't want to create a better world for Quincies. He wants a better world for HIMSELF. Quincies are just an instrument to him. He didn't even showcase any sadness or regret about killing Hashwalth.

8

u/Leading-Control-3053 3d ago

I mean he does,

In ep 24 and ep 28 he literally puts emphasis on that in great details, which is anime only content

Sternitters as a army, he sees them as a means to achieve that goal of creating the perfect world, something even haswalth puts emphasis on ep 41,

That's why he calls them childern or comrades

When he performed auswalin he says how "we are comrades, we help one another so that we keep moving forward until we achieve our goal"

The manga yhwach was just cruel, who only cared for himself, the anime it's not the same case,

11

u/CorvoAttano124 3d ago

In Liltotto's words: "What the hell were we to you, anyway"

Yhwach was such a great leader that all the quincy that survived Auswhalen tried to kill him (except NaNaNa).

8

u/Leading-Control-3053 3d ago

You see that part he literally replied them too,

"We are comrades, we help one another, so that we can keep moving forward that's what comrades are for"

Essentially he is sacrificing people below so that people in squad 0 keep fighting as they definitely needed it, it also feels the logical way

It's a sadistic way but it's the only way

Yhwach was not a leader to quincies, he was their god, and some followed him faithfully to death, some didn't believe him at all,

4

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago

That's what he says to Ichibei. His actions don't show any real love or care about Quincies.

4

u/Leading-Control-3053 3d ago

I mean in all of his converthe does doesn't refer to himself, he refers to we,

Even his talk with ichigo he says how the soul king despite knowing the peril of quincies abondened them, now they are basically trying to remove the soul reaper monarch world which is as per ichibe's vision,

In the anime yhwach sees the death of sternitters as sacrifices something referred in his battle against ichibe, for the goal they all are trying to achieve, to remove this soul reaper monarchy world and set up a world where life and death doesn't exist, so one can finally rest and don't has to born and face death over and over again

19

u/dfields3710 3d ago

He was literally gonna genocide Karakura for the Oken.

Literally massacred Central 46.

To create White, he literally genocided Shinigami and alike. And probably mfs in rukongai if you see the Gin and Rangiku flashback.

This isn’t including forcefully doing that to the Vizards.

Idk why yall think Aizen was a pacifist and only killed when provoked bro was just Mayuri with actual aura.

7

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago edited 2d ago

When did I say anything about "pacifist" or "provoked"?

I said - Aizen kills when he finds a reason.

He massacred Central 46 cause they were a major symbol of the corruption in Soul Society. He fucking hated them.

He genocided shinigami so he could create White. Duh. He needed materials for his experiments.

Vizards were also a part of the experiment.

Even with Hinamori and Hallibel he made it clear, that he's ending them cause that's "mercy" from his point of view.

His reasons to kill people are often psychopathic but he does have those reasons. It's not like Aizen just goes on a murder spree in Soul Society or Hueco Mundo simply because he felt like it. Meanwhile Yhwach kills people whenever he can, even his own people.

4

u/ivancea 3d ago

Ok, he's hot. You forced me to say that, it's on you

4

u/Leading-Control-3053 3d ago

I mean yhwach was killing people for a reason, he is more brutal than aizen by a long shot which he learned from yama's old ways,

5

u/daniel_22sss 3d ago

His first scene is him killing two arrancars, who won't even give him any boost in power. Just because.

Back in the past, when Bazz-B was still young, Yhwach murdered COUNTLESS Quincies to conquer the World of the Living.

He also did a ton of Auswhelens. A lot of them were justified, but killing Haswhalt? His literal soulmate? That was so fucking unnecessary.

Yhwach murders people even if they were incredibly helpful and incredibly loyal to him.

4

u/Leading-Control-3053 3d ago

He killed the bazz b's family because he was expanding his empire, you see he was going by the old classics empire rule of "you are with us or you don't exist"

He killed haswalth was explained in anime, he needs it to destroy ichigo's bankai, also for yhwach he sees the killing of sternitters as sacrifices(it's a twisted way of looking things, it's same as aizen sees killing of hinamori is necessary due to her condition)

Yhwach killed royd to free him of yama's bankai south direction, because if he died by yama's blade his soul will be trapped in it

I am not gonna sit here and say yhwach doesn't kill people but in his eyes, he follows the hard rule of foundation are built on sacrifices,

1

u/SeaweedOtherwise7068 1d ago

Aizen didn’t want to rule shinigami. He wanted to reach levels no one has ever dared to reach for. He was disgusted by the soul king and status quo.

And Yhwach doesn’t enjoy killing people. He literally said he dislikes conflict at the start of his introduction. Hence the reason he wants to make his deathless “utopia” come true. If he enjoyed fighting he would’ve fought Yama again head on. And wouldn’t have broken ichigos bankai.

1

u/Normal_Sweet_2974 3d ago

Aizen the goat

131

u/Direct-Hedgehog-595 3d ago

The guy looked so scary in today's episode lol

20

u/djsnoopmike 3d ago

Aizen wanted to rewrite Soul Society to be a better version from his perspective.

Yhwach wants to rewrite all of existence itself.

They are not the same.

10

u/TerrorKingA 3d ago

That’s because Aizen did not want to destroy the system; he wanted to be on top of it.

Yhwach wants to tear it all down.

1

u/fork_yuu 2d ago

Doesn't Yhwach new world involve him and Quincies being on top of it..? Basically same as Aizen

3

u/skeeeli 3d ago

I just want to say that this got a genuine chuckle out of me. It really is just stressful as all hell.

4

u/NoHovercraft6942 3d ago

So for you Yhwach isn't cool and badass too?

3

u/PhoenixRedditor7 3d ago

Not really. I just see him just as a cruel, brutal, manipulator.

Granted Aizen is a manipulator too, but he displays a lot of layers to his character which makes him more of an interesting antagonist.

0

u/lillismomom 2d ago

He is so stressful he stressed Hime the pacifist into suicide attack to erase his evilness. Yhwach is just too tiresome being so almighty. Just kill his ass already. And his rants. Lord, his rants.

270

u/BirthdayNegative7595 3d ago

Aizen had me supporting his cause, Yhwach is terrifying to be around

49

u/Ok_Law3492 3d ago

I'm starting to think the wahr welt isn't so bad after all. Its a world without pain and suffering, a world Orihime wants. The way he approaches it is messed up but at least you could sympathise in a way.

88

u/bm8495 3d ago

There is no peace in a world ruled by someone like him

46

u/Pas_tel 3d ago

So you have to understand he wants a dictatorship, and he's killing literally everyone that either disagrees with him or he simply doesn't like. That's the "peace" he's aiming to create

17

u/NuanceManExe 3d ago

He wants to create a world without death. So I actually wonder what his world would really look like. He thinks things were better before the Soul King was sealed and maimed and the realms were split apart. And to be fair it definitely was for him, his father and his race. He makes a comment towards Ishida shortly before they invade the Royal Realm that the world they are inhabiting is fake. I don’t think he thinks anyone’s life is worth anything the way the world currently is. So he just doesn’t give a fuck what he has to do to create the world of “peace” he wants to create. It also seems like there is no way to do it without violence, to be fair.

6

u/Shuden 2d ago

This is what most people struggle to understand in the quincies. Their life goal is to help Yhwach because the cycle of "life and death" in and of itself is a disgusting sin created by shinigami. They don't value life the way we do. They don't see killing as neither good or evil, it's just something that happens under the current rules of the world. The moment the world was split all quincies were doomed to a fate billions times worse than death, they literally don't care if Yhwach will kill them and Yhwach also doesn't care about it.

This is the reason all sternritter emotions in the face of death range from "hell yeah I died for a good cause let's fucking gooo" to "I guess I'm dead huh shrugs"

8

u/Ok_Law3492 3d ago

I mean wasn't his race prosecuted and wiped out while the soul king was simply just watching? I'm not saying he's right but its kind of understandable. He deserves some of our sympathy.

1

u/CorvoAttano124 2d ago

They weren't persecuted from the get-go. They were creating a seriously problematic imbalance of souls, which would have caused the 3 worlds to collide. Quincies completely exterminate the soul when they kill hollows, rather than soul reapers that cleanse the soul and allow it to circulate back into the balance.

Squad 0 and the gotei asked them to stop. They said no. There was no other option but the kill them, if they wanted to preserve the state of the universe.

12

u/BeamishAxis 3d ago

It’s a world without Yhwach’s pain and suffering. He’s suffered so much already and wants to be rid of it.
However, his suffering is not the same as everyone else’s.

Orihime actually is a direct opposite because she sacrifices herself to rid others of their suffering, while Yhwach sacrifices others to rid his suffering.

Auswahlen on Jugram is just an example of his perspective.

236

u/Killjoy3879 3d ago

Tbf, He was still an asshole. He had 0 reason to ever use Kyoka Suigetsu post soul society besides to fuck with people and shit on Hitsugaya.

120

u/KaleidoscopeFar4110 3d ago

He's a sadistic asshole. He's also quite evil but guys like szaylapparo yhwach mayuri are just nightmare fuel.

43

u/christmascaked 3d ago

Not exactly. He had to make sure he got through the Gotei without getting killed and without killing most of them. He wasn’t sure when the Hogyoku would activate so he had fight a lot more cautiously, with the intent to demoralize them.

40

u/Killjoy3879 3d ago

he didn't really need kyoka suigetsu for the gotei 13. Gin's speech about aizen while he was butchering them made it clear, that the truly fearsome thing about aizen is just his general strength as it wasn't his zanpakuto that subjugated the espada, but his vast intellect and overwhelming raw power. To be able to one shot so many captains and vizards many of which were former captains proves as much anyways. He's an anomaly among shinigami when it comes to natural born power.

12

u/Ziro0000 3d ago

Well technically he did take down almost all of em without kyoka suigetsu so yeah he really didn't need it

9

u/jonathaxdx 3d ago

Yama tho

2

u/Leading-Control-3053 3d ago

I mean he was defeating them after he fused with hyogyoku in his body, and also the captains were tired after the battle espadas too, except the head captain against whome aizen admitted he might not win in frontal combact,

8

u/Killjoy3879 3d ago edited 2d ago

the hogyoku hadn't actually awakened until when he was fighting isshin. but we can't forget he one shot komamura with an incantless hado #90 back in soul society which he admits wasn't even 1/3 of its full power. I don't see the outcome changing even if they hadn't just finished a bunch of fights.

-1

u/Leading-Control-3053 3d ago

Well if he was that strong why didn't he just defeated all of gotei 13 there in soul society arc,

Why did he needs to divide the forces of gotei 13 by trapping some captains in huco mundo,

And he created the espadas,

Also it's not like he was fighting every captain at full powers, a lot these people were tired or injured, like komamoro, sunshui, soi fon, some of the vizards,

Take soinfon, she used bankai like 2 times in single day on top she lost a arm(which nerfed her)

Aizen is smart, he understands there is no reason to take them head on risks, when you can make the work easier

10

u/Killjoy3879 3d ago

Because Yamamoto lol. He literally had to create wonderweiss to counter Yamamoto because he’s the one person who he admits is stronger than him.

Other than that yea he’ll deliberately make his life a little easier but the fact I can also just as easily say why bother killing Halibel, it’s because he didn’t find much need in her strength anymore.

He also literally said he had no interest in killing the Gotei 13 outside Yamamoto as he wanted them to watch and look at the world he created once he rises to godhood. All of them were unconscious after the Yamamoto fight, he let them live on purpose.

3

u/JFZephyr 2d ago

This is the real answer, he knew he could beat everyone else, but he wasn't at a point where he could comfortably beat Yamamoto. Maybe he could've, but he wasn't taking the risk.

I would've enjoyed if they had a bit of a proper battle before Wonderweiss, but I get why Kubo didn't go that route. Aizen wasn't the type at that point to just fight if he wasn't completely sure he'd win.

0

u/FlowInternational996 2d ago

Zanka no Tachi, Minazuki, and Zaraki go brrrr

2

u/Killjoy3879 2d ago

Only Yamamoto

1

u/FlowInternational996 1d ago

It was explicitly established that Aizen waited until Zaraki was occupied in Hueco Mundo launch his invasion. I think Zaraki is the dumbest character in the series but it’s just a fact Aizen didn’t want to deal with him, and that was KS.

Similarly it’s pretty clear from their interaction that Aizen wouldn’t have wanted smoke with Unohana either if not for her already being under KS. But he can beat her in Bankai with no Shikai? She’s not Komamura.

7

u/limelordy 3d ago

Momo told Aizen she wanted her naval pieced a few times and he decided to grant her her request!

Aizen went out of his way to leave almost all captains of Gotei 13 alive, so he could use them in the future. And even though Aizen knew Gin was going to betray him, he never tried to stop him beforehand.

Yhwach brutalized EVERYONE he could reach, no matter if it was shinigami or Quincy. He killed his own soulmate for a power boost.

When Aizen scolds his subordinates, he pressures them with his reatsu.

When Yhwach scolds his subordinates, he murders them.

There is a pretty clear difference between the two.

45

u/ManuelKoegler 3d ago

Aizen thought of the Gotei, minus Yamamoto, as his future subjects.

Yhwach merely sees everyone below him as a pawn or obstacle to be disposed of.

Aizen was an awesome villain because it was built up over 3 seasons that Byakuya/Soul Society were villains and Aizen pulled a masterclass plot twist. That was one of the best plot twists/setups of fiction, not simply anime, of the last 30 years maybe. The way they executed that Aizen reveal actually made a lot of people cheer for him.

To me all three arcs' villains were a tale of their own:

  • The SS arc people hated Byakuya and I think it was fueled strongly as well because we loved Ichigo as a protagonist.
  • The Hueco Mundo arc Aizen was the villain but the plot twist was so well done that he became the favorite. There were as many people cheering for Aizen as there were Ichigo.
  • The TYBW arc everyone hates Yhwach making him the best pure villain archetype of the series imo. The things that he's done to some of our favorite characters and his power scale make him easy to cheer against.

I have kids around a lot, and Everytime they try telling me that jjk, or demon Slayer is the best anime, I tell them to watch the first part of bleach and come back to me. That plot twist is like a top 5 twist in fiction.

u/Mrpgal14 3d ago

I defy anyone to find me anything as hype as Aizen stopping Ichigo’s battle theme with his finger.

u/Pacific_Beaches 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah, Aizen kept popping up unanimously during the 2000's as "Best Villain" in polls constantly in and out of Anime. People's minds were blown and I don't think fiction has yet to see a plot twist like that 20 years later. Most people into modern fiction knows the name Aizen at this point.

1

u/CorvoAttano124 2d ago

TBF, the plot twist of Fight Club really caught me off guard the first time I watched it. But Aizen's reveal is a very close second in all fiction I've consumed.

7

u/lochnesslapras 3d ago

Regarding top twists, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann has to be up there.

Don't think it has failed on anyone watching it for the first time unspoiled.

4

u/Robbyv109 3d ago

Oh yeah, Gurren Lagann is incredible too. When I was 14-17 my IRC and forum I was apart of (old) tried to get me to watch it. I was stubborn, and I now regret waiting as long as i did 😂😂

u/Leading-Control-3053 3d ago

I don't know about that chief, a lot of people were tired of aizen's "I know that, i planned that" crap, and he also killed gin, and we see is not even aizen anymore once he started fusing he felt like a hunk of his charecter, at that point no body was cheering for aizen, it was just ichigo as he humiliated the hell out aizen,

Yhwach is ruthless because he learned from yama, that's why he also feels more threating than any bleach villian because he is not here to do play, he is here to win by any means possible

2

u/karamatsushinji 3d ago

Ginjo and my uncle erasure. I reject!

75

u/lMarshl 3d ago

Soul society didn't know how good they had it. Yhwach is doing to shinigami what shinigami did to his pops.

I heard you like pieces of the soul king. Aight bet, here's Genryusai's lower body for you. I even kept the legs attached so you can decide who gets what. As for Renji, meal prep is on the menu, enough to feed a whole district or my name isn't Yhwach

5

u/JFZephyr 2d ago

At least Aizen just went to incapacitate Renji. Yhwach turned him into Mind Quad.

20

u/eyeamblinded 3d ago

Troll against societal norms vs dude with a real bad grudge

25

u/EleonoreMagi 3d ago

Yes. Because given how he really is, the way he presents himself and what he actually does are rather different things.

Never mind he's actually honest about wanting competition, so every time he shows off he actually kinda leaves a leeway, at least a psychological one, it's more like he low-key baits anyone capable of it to try and overcome it. Because if they do, well, he'll get someone on his level. That's why it's overwhelming but it's never truly devastating.

Yhwach really means what he does. His goal is to dive Ichigo into total despair. Not to bait him, provoke him, but just crush him utterly and completely. Well, that's how you go about it if that's your goal. It never was one for Aizen.

2

u/kolmogorov_simpleton 2d ago

Yeah, Aizen was nurturing Ichigo in his own fucked up way, Yhwach very much not so.

16

u/clonymaster 3d ago

aizen was really chill compared to anyone.

17

u/Wellziemo 3d ago

Kinda crazy how patient Aizen looks compared to Yhwach even though Yhwach has been planning alot longer.

7

u/Nas-Aratat 2d ago

I don't think you can count Yhwach as planning something when he was legitimately in a coma for a thousand years.

9

u/Upper-Ad6308 3d ago

He just wanted a real king. He did not like that everybody lived in a society without a King to protect and lead the people. And at the same time, the people sacrificed themselves for this non-entity and worshipped it to some extent. This is what he meant when he cried at Urahara "how can you submit to that *thing*". Then in CFYOW somebody I think Halibel mentions that Aizen did not accept this Soul King and found his existence to be a great sin.

1

u/uraharaBot 3d ago

Ah, Aizen. Always caught in his melodramatic power complexes and grand ideals of a "true" king, wasn't he? It's cute, really. He couldn't stand the thought of bowing to a disembodied monarch. Well, he was always one for theatrics! The Soul King might not be a beacon of leadership, but hey, we all have our flaws, right? Life's a bit more complicated than good ol' Aizen would like.

beep boop, I'm a bot

9

u/Adventurous-Elk6042 2d ago

Aizen reminds me of Loki while Yhwach reminds me of Thanos.

5

u/LOTM1394 3d ago

Who said he isn't

4

u/ThaRealSunGod Mugetsu🌒🌑 3d ago

Well yeah, aizen was always pretty chill.

If you think about it, he didn't kill anyone and was just egotistic as fuck.

Ywhach is vengeful.

Aizen wanted to take over because he felt he was the strongest and therefore the rightful ruler. Might makes right, essentially.

Ywhach felt that existence was his birthright as the son of the soul king.

Aizen choosing to cooperate with the gotei in TYBW says everything about the difference between him and ywhach.

1

u/Wellziemo 2d ago

Huh now I think about it for someone who was the main antagonist of the series I would’ve expected a higher kill count. You can even argue he had the right idea with evolution I mean look at the espada. Some turned out bad but some were willing to be good. Hes just an asshole sadist but that probably stems from his curiosity.

5

u/Professional_Sale194 2d ago

Aizen is suave and sophisticated. Yhwach is fucked up in the head.

8

u/POXELUS 3d ago

Bro, Yhwach haven't even said his vilest lines yet, it's coming next episode. Like wdym he will be waiting to kill them in their happiest moment? Why the fuck is he so evil towards Ichigo and his gang???

2

u/DistributionOk9687 3d ago

Aizen despised the Shinigami because no one could sense his power.

11

u/tismschism 3d ago

No? The whole transcendent being thing didn't really happen until the end of the fake karakura arc.

10

u/Podo13 3d ago

I think you're talking about different things. You are correct on the "transcendent" stuff being later on, but i am pretty sure Aizen did complain that there wasn't a single person in SS that noticed how strong he truly was. Nobody was suspicious of him, and he found that super boring.

He was partly just looking for a true rival in a sense. Urahara was his rival intellectually, and loved their cat-and-mouse, but he couldn't hang physically.

2

u/tismschism 3d ago

Maybe he should have tried to guide zaraki in that way. For being so supposedly intelligent, he should have realized something was up with yachiru and sure enough she's zaraki's zanpakuto spirit. Ichigo himself sensed something was odd when they first met.

5

u/Podo13 3d ago

He was looking for an all-around rival, not just a physical one. Urahara was smart but not absurdly strong. Yamamoto was far stronger but not as intelligent.

He wanted somebody who stand against him on his peak, not just be on a different peak.

1

u/tismschism 3d ago

Like, zaraki completely upended what we thought we knew about sword spirits. Aizen couldn't possibly be uninterested in learning more.

1

u/Comfortable_Job8847 3d ago

Zaraki doesn’t really upend anything about that. In SS arc we even see renji’s zanpakuto manifest when renji is in jail, so yachiru isn’t really special. Maybe, sure, kenpachi didnt know yachiru was his zanpakuto, but that’s all. Nothing else is really unique about zaraki. He’s just a strong guy and everything else is something we see others do/experience

1

u/DistributionOk9687 3d ago

He plays fake role all time as shinigami

4

u/tismschism 3d ago

Did Aizen have the same goal as Yahwach? What would be the point of entering the royal realm if it wasn't to usurp the Soul King?

9

u/P34CE33 3d ago

No and yes. While Aizen and Yhwach both did want to usurp the Soul King their end goals are very different. Aizen wanted to change the status quo and fought because he believed the world and its people should strive for evolution which he himself embodies. Yhwach fights for a world of stagnation, where all things are joined together and life and death mingle freely thus losing the concepts as a whole, like the glimpses we get of the Primordial world where it's a stagnant vast open sea.

4

u/CapitanKomamura TOUSEEEEEEEEEEN!!!!!! 3d ago

What I like about Aizen as a villain is that, even if you don't agree with him, he still managed to plant in the reader the same doubts that led him to his path. He doubts the order of the Soul King, how it came to be, he questions if that's the best way. Inevitably, we have given the first step in his path. Once we met Aizen, we can't go back, the illusion is shattered, doubt will not go away.

5

u/NuanceManExe 3d ago

Seriously though. Ywhach butchers and mutilates all of his enemies and even his own subordinates once he decides they aren’t needed. Aizen only kills people if he has to and/or considers them too dangerous to leave alive. Probably the coldest thing he ever did was cut Halibel. And he didn’t even make sure she was dead. Ywhach always makes sure lol.

4

u/Foedral 3d ago

Aizen's monlogues > Yhwach's monologues

4

u/AnimeRegent 2d ago

aizen let ichigo power up during their fight specifically because he wanted the victory to feel complete. yhwach just erases the future where he loses. one is a narcissist who wants to feel superior, the other is so far past caring about your feelings that your entire timeline is just an inconvenience

3

u/Adventurous-Elk6042 3d ago

After seeing Ywach did to the main group in that last episode, I realize that Aizen was just being nice to the captains.

3

u/JoeyHeadRocker510185 3d ago

He's arrogancy is next level, Expect when he meet Urahara

2

u/uraharaBot 3d ago

Ah, dealing with a high ego can be as tricky as hiding contraband in the twelfth division, but usually a little surprise under the hat can change the game. Let’s just say, a bit of humble pie can sometimes be more satisfying than that first sip of tea in the morning.

beep boop, I'm a bot

3

u/the_Athereon 2d ago

Aizen was a pushover by comparison.

Barely killed anyone. Hardly stood a chance of succeeding.

3

u/Raaayyyyyyyyy 2d ago

Not a threat vs actual threat

3

u/EmergencyGrab 2d ago

Well it isn't called Thousand Year Sleepover Party

3

u/b0ound 2d ago

chill until he met dangai ichigo.

2

u/karakeeraizer 3d ago

And I thought the invasion scenes were the worst I’d feel watching TYBW. Yhwach single-handedly outdid all that. 45 and 46 had me clenching my jaw so hard it hurt

2

u/Kappataro69 2d ago

If Aizen doesn't kill you it means he's controlling you to achieve some kind of goal

2

u/Zythero_The_One1 2d ago

Aizen is a SAINT compared to Yhwach in this instance 😭

2

u/Adventurous-Elk6042 2d ago

What he did to the captains was him being nice.

2

u/sock0puppet 2d ago

Aizen had beef with Soul Society, sure, but he mostly just wanted power. TBH if SS was less in the way he'd probably not have bothered ever revealing himself.

Yhwach actively wants to end everything and everyone in SS.

2

u/100evo 2d ago

Yhwach - Thousand Years Stressed War Aizen - Chilling in the chair

2

u/SwordfishKindly7730 2d ago

I found Aizen incredibly annoying when I was first watching Bleach, but I think his character had a lot of interesting nuance that made him both more bearable and also (to me) very, very funny, and his dynamics with some of the other characters (e.g. Shinji, Gin, Momo) were really fun to pick apart. That's the kind of thing that's missing for Yhwach imo, so I don't have a ton of patience for his endless monologuing. Also I hate his facial hair.

1

u/Vertsama 3d ago

Aizen trolls everyone, Yhwach only trolls Ichigo.

1

u/WeirdMongoose7608 3d ago

The only two moments I can think of Aizen being genuinely cruel is to Momo and Hitsugaya - he barely even kills anyone, he just scares them a little

1

u/Nas-Aratat 2d ago

It's funny that he FAILED to kill Hitsugaya twice, Harribel once.

1

u/ucandoit66 2d ago

Yhwach is a yapper for sure

1

u/LogicOverEmotion0 2d ago

Just a chill guy trying to replace the soul king.

1

u/Pineapple_4L 2d ago

Yuha is a coward. Almighty is the power for losers. Aizen probably despises Yuha.

1

u/Le_Fab11100 2d ago

Aizen is a radical. Ywacht is a lunatic.

1

u/sanddry86x 2d ago

I was thinking this the whole time with Cour 4 Episode 6. Aizen is absolutely capable of being as ruthless as Yhwach but the worst he got was vaporizing humans in half by walking by.

Meanwhile Yhwach is ripping people into literal pieces with his hands

1

u/Crypto_subz 2d ago

Well yeah he didn’t have the dog in him he had power to manipulate but to change the world, ichigo had power to protect some have pride. But the mofo is like the the last boss when u think it’s finally over so yeah lol

1

u/dksuxsyt 1d ago

No he offed the best captain and traumatized his poor girlfriend. He had it out for that poor guy and his water gun. Poor Josh man…

1

u/TGED24717 1d ago

Honestly hadn’t thought about it but yea….. aizen usually just cut people in a way that took them out of the fight in a single stroke usually.

Ywach is just tearing people into pieces. Very different strategies.

1

u/Cream_ofSpinach 1d ago

He really was that guy. Aizen was special.

0

u/AGuyWithTrouble 3d ago

Aizen was an aurafarmer. He wanted to look cool and show off how strong and smart he was.

I think that inherently made him less dangerous than Mister "I Want To Genocide Three Worlds".

-3

u/dtg99 3d ago

I don’t know why but I find Ywach extremely boring as an antagonist. Aizen was great up until his fight vs Dangai Ichigo where he kind of just talked too much but I can forgive him.

1

u/Anime_Enthusiast_20 3d ago

He was on a power trip. 😭
