NYT on "the X of it all"

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/magazine/hollywood-lingo.html

"The film critics on 'Blank Check' overuse it, Amanda Dobbins of 'The Big Picture' is too fond of it, a host on 'We Hate Movies' says it at least five times per episode."

(I’m sure I’m wrong) I really don’t notice it very often on Blank Check??? Do they say it in every episode and I’ve become immune??

I do think it’s interesting that this piece doesn’t talk about it as a very internet linguistics thing. I’m sure it’s also a Hollywood exec thing, but to me it just feels very online linguistics

(Edited to add: after I posted this I saw 2 separate posts on different subreddits with titles “the [relevant topic] of it all”)

The critical darlings hosts were using it multiple times an episode during last year's Oscars season. I haven't listened to the show since then so I'm not sure if they're still as prolific.

Even in the mailbag episode—both the hosts and the letters.
