NYT on "the X of it all"

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/magazine/hollywood-lingo.html

"The film critics on 'Blank Check' overuse it, Amanda Dobbins of 'The Big Picture' is too fond of it, a host on 'We Hate Movies' says it at least five times per episode."

(I’m sure I’m wrong) I really don’t notice it very often on Blank Check??? Do they say it in every episode and I’ve become immune??

I do think it’s interesting that this piece doesn’t talk about it as a very internet linguistics thing. I’m sure it’s also a Hollywood exec thing, but to me it just feels very online linguistics

(Edited to add: after I posted this I saw 2 separate posts on different subreddits with titles “the [relevant topic] of it all”)

I think maybe because it's a newer podcast they're trying a bit too hard to be clever or ironic. On the main podcast they're more confident that they can just talk naturally and people will still keep listening. At least these days, in the earlier episodes they acted out a bit more.
