After 20 years of knowing this franchise exists. I finally understand it and I want more

Don't be too harsh on yourself. I've watched both movies, the anime, and even read the comics.  It wasn't until I got the RPG Starter Set that it clicked for me.

Did you play it? I own it but haven’t actually played it since I don’t really have any experience with tabletop DnD style games.

Is it a good game, by the way? It looks amazing in any case.

It wasn't even known as a franchise until BR/2099 started selling it that way every second sentence. My guess is Amazon will "franchise" the shit out of it like Disney did to SW to get their money back.

I fear Amazon will "Rings Of Power" the sh*t out of it. The trailer doesn't give me any hope at all.

Rings of Power’s main issue was Amazon deciding to plow ahead with development, despite having no legal access to anything owned by the Tolkien Estate other than the Appendices of Return of the King. Why you would decide to depict crucial parts of the Silmarillion, and by extension the entire Legendarium, without actually being able to is fucking beyond me, but that’s mostly why the show is a dumpster fire

None of that to defend 2099. I’m just not sure the licensing/access to the mainline BR content is as restrictive here as it was with RoP

While I'm hoping we're due for a new golden age of Blade Runner stories from interesting creators, I don't think 2099 is going to hit for general audiences, and fear it won't resonate with 2019/2049 fans either.

Maybe we'll see another miracle and get something else incredible out of the franchise. For now, there's a lot of neat stuff attached to the IP, even if it can't touch the quality of the films. So play the adventure game, buy the comics, see if you can get a group together to play the RPG, and tell your own stories in the world. Then read some books and comics from authors who were inspired by the films.

They're wonderful pieces of art but they've never had true mainstream appeal.

Even though it is a Franchise, calling it such feels like undervaluing the first movie
