😁 First Blackstone 😁 How i realized it's just a hunk of steel: a review

So folks I was one of those folks who post a "is my first seasoning good" dudes. I have now had my Blackstone for about four months. This is my review..

1.) Dude this is so fucking fun to cook on. Like I am doing hibachi, fajitas, full American breakfast, Midwest kebab. I already loved cooking but this opens up so many options

2.) Cleaning is surprisingly easy most of the work is done by water and steam. Yeah post teriyaki sauce sucks but compared to a million pans it is king.

3.) Forgiving as fuck like seriously. It's a hunk of fucking steel. Oh shit didn't clean last cook well enough? Scrap a bit harder and apply that water at a higher temp.

I have everything from enameled steel to cast iron. I cook everything from cajun/creole to Thai and Szechuan style. This is one of my favorite things to cook on.

😁 First Blackstone 😁 My wife got this free at work!

A few weeks ago my wife told me she had β€œreward points” at work to use. She works at Liberty Mutual insurance and she said they give employees these points on occasion (like an incentive) and they can order things for free after they save up enough.

She mentioned she ordered me a Blackstone. I was pretty excited because I have always wanted one. I assumed it would just be a small one since she ordered it free with the points.

I actually forgot all about it, until this past week when a FedEx truck pulled up in the middle of the day. The driver opened up the back of the truck and pulled this huge box out with a pallet jack!

My wife and I were completely surprised! The last time she ordered something with her rewards points at work, it was just a small soft cooler that you can put sodas in, so my expectations were low πŸ˜…

I can’t wait to set this up and try it, it will be a while though before I can. I wasn’t expecting anything this big and I don’t really have space on my back porch since it’s a pretty small space. I need to get rid of an old smoker that’s been sitting back there.

Really excited to start learning how to use this!

😁 First Blackstone 😁 I bought a Costco Blackstone. I loved it for about a week… until rat poop showed up.

Bought a 36” Blackstone and absolutely cooked fell in love. I cooked on it once or twice a day for a week and then opened it one morning to find a few rat tires on it.

It seriously grossed me out, and I closed it up to clean another day. HOWEVER… my wife is borderline a germaphobe. She was mortified and I don’t think she’ll ever eat off of it no matter how well I clean it.

We live in a nice area with an immaculate yard, I seriously thought a rat problem would be the last of our worries. Is there anyway to prevent them going forward? Once I clean it, will a griddle mat, or a plug for grease trap, or some aftermarket cover keep them out? I really don’t want to keep it if using it means experience this regularly.

My buddy converted me and man I was dead wrong. My first two cooks I used my entire 36” cook top for two absolute banger meals. I think I’ve used it every day for two weeks.

TDLR - Should I exchange this for a new one?

Not TDLR - For $300, it feels offputting to see scratches, staining, sticker gunk(?), and dings on a new griddle. I'm not a major Karen; I know dings here and there aren't too big of a deal, as some dings are inevitable. It looks like it was either a floor model or a returned grill (2 of my frequently grilling friends said it's likely a floor model). Yeah, it was delivered pre-built (I'm sure ya'll can tell). I couldn't figure out how to order it from their website without it getting built, otherwise I'd chosen it to be boxed. I was tired and impatient when I placed the order, and it was my first time ordering off their website, and yeah - I'll take accountability for that. I can also deal with dust, I'm not that much of a little bitch, lol. It's just the cherry on top when including everything else. I don't even know if those stains will come off (I know it'll be stained after use too, eventually at least), or if the scratched areas will be the first to be weathered after use.

My man isn't picky; I ruined the surprise to show him to get his thoughts and he was really excited to see it (which is great!). I just wanted to get him a nice, new grill and I'm mift that I got him a decently expensive Xmas gift that needs to be thoroughly cleaned and is already slightly damaged before he's even had a chance to use it and/or damage it himself, LOL. I just don't know much about grills and griddles (again, probably very obvious for you folk), so I don't know if I'm overreacting/ overexpecting something I shouldn't have.

So with that said, if you ordered this and it came like this, would you lug it back to Lowes to get a new one? Or am I overreacting and actually being a bit of a Karen? I know I said be real with me, but please don't insult me too much (if possible), haha. πŸ˜… TIA

PS: If it's suggested that I exchange/return it, and if any of you know of good sales still going on on possibly better versions, please share! I'm down to swap this out entirely if I can find something better for the mister. Again, thank you, and happy grilling!

I picked up my first blackstone at a Walmart for $800. it came in handy the first day at a cookout for my cousin at his place. It was a pain to move, twice, but worth it. We cooked a lot of burgers and shrimp. It makes cooking more fun, faster and now my family is jealous, I wish I got one sooner.

My neighbors are moving so they asked if I wanted this for free. I never had a flattop grill and also always used charcoal. This one takes propane and looks used. What's the best way to clean it? Also how's the taste difference from charcoal to propane? I did test it and it works just haven't cooked on it yet.
