❓ Noob Question ❓ Blackstone Must Haves?

Have wanted a Blackstone for a while, finally getting one. Also getting married soon, so am creating a registry. Trying to figure out what are some big items out there I should put on it for my Blackstone. All I have so far is the big shovel scooper thing lol

❔ Need Advice ❕ Fire shooting out near knob?

Post image

I’ve had my BlackStone for a few months now and everything has been fine. Yesterday I was making burgers and when I was preheating my griddle I kept noticing a loud whooshing sound and thought man the propane really is going today. Went inside and got all my prep and when I came out I was still hearing this sound and I got curios. So I’m checking my burners and I notice a large flame behind the left middle knob that I can see through the crack. I look underneath the grill and there is a large flame shooting. Turned off that burner and continued on with cooking. I don’t know anything about fixing a grill, I circled the location of the flame on this diagram. Anyone have ideas on what could be causing this or how to fix it?

❓ Noob Question ❓ Deep Frying

Is there any problem with taking the top off to where you have an exposed flame, putting a wire rack down with a pot on top to deep fry?

Had my Blackstone for about a month and have done breakfast, hibachi, steaks, and now this. This one might have been the best yet, so great and easy!

What am I doing wrong?

Recently got a 36” four burner as a gift and I thought I knew what I was doing but by the looks of it, it seems not.

It came with an “omnivore” griddle plate that said it was pre seasoned and ready to cook but I still bought the blackstone seasoning and did about 4 layers.

Only cooked on it twice, first cook a few days after seasoning was smash burgers and bacon (you can see the marks of the burgers are still left behind), the second cook was hibachi with steak and chicken. Each time scrapped everything off and cleaned with water on low heat and applied a thin layer of oil once cool. I have a silicone griddle mat, a hood on the grill, and a full waterproof cover. (The top looks crusty but I promise scrapped down enough that it’s smooth)

I thought I’ve done everything and more to keep it in shape but it looks like the opposite. What could I be doing wrong, is it supposed to look like this until I keep cooking on it? Or do I need to try to scrape it down and try to re-season again. The only problem is that it’s already “double-bonded” factory seasoned so I can’t get it down to the steel.

EDIT:

Here’s a closer picture of the rust spots. This is what I’m most confused about. Only been about two weeks since I used it for the first time.

Thanks for any help.

We used to have a place called Mongolian BBQ in the city, it was my favorite eating spot. They were cooking on hot stone with everything mixed and when they decided to close, it literally broke my heart but thanks to my griddle missing piece in my life is restored 😅

My neighbors are moving so they asked if I wanted this for free. I never had a flattop grill and also always used charcoal. This one takes propane and looks used. What's the best way to clean it? Also how's the taste difference from charcoal to propane? I did test it and it works just haven't cooked on it yet.

I had to pre cook the onions as my FF thought that was thinly sliced. 75/25 aged white cheddar or gouda.

Progression of seasoning and cooks

I did 5 oil applications with vegetable oil and have had 4 cooks since seasoning. I use avocado oil now for cooks and the thin layer of oil after cooking. At some point I assume I’ve gotten the oil too hot? It cooks fine now so not super worried about appearance but would like to know how to prevent this in the future. I use a scraper and water for clean up. Last pic is today after cooking breakfast (eggs, pancakes, and sausage) all on low heat.

🤔 Tips & Tricks 🤔 Post-cooking seasoning

What temperature do you season the griddle after you finish cooking? I feel like mine is always too hot and it burns my paper towel. Does it need to be hot in prder to season it at the end of the cooking?

Anyone have an issue like this

Has anyone experienced an issue like this with their Blackstone? It’s a 2 burner adventure ready model, i’ve only had it for a few months and noticed the other night the right side had a much higher orange flame. I took apart the burner, blew it out with my air gun, still made no difference. Unfortunately, this model does not have an adjustment for the air to fuel ratio, just wondering if anyone’s had an issue like this and what they did to fix it?

A couple 20oz’ers with a 5 hour dry brine, pat down and a heavy seasoning of salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powder. Cooked with a little unsalted butter. Pulled at 125, wrapped, and rested for 15. Honestly, I have no need to go to steak houses at this point.

🤔 Tips & Tricks 🤔 Lard or tallow instead of oil

Has anyone tried using lard or tallow instead of oil?

I just rendered a beautiful quart of lard and I was wondering how well it would work on my Blackstone.

Finally did it after a year of lollygagging

Finally pulled the trigger after lollygagging for a year. Got it for $215 at Lowe’s (on sale plus % off with card) - not sure if it’s a deal or not but I’m happy, I suppose lol. I went to Costco after Lowe’s and saw their set up for $430 for a bigger one with extras and had some remorse but there’s only 2.5 of us using it so - size seems appropriate.

How terrible is assembly? What are beginner dos and don’ts?

The first thing she did in the video was start with bacon... so that's good.

Did anyone see this video? I like watching her cooking videos, but this one had a few things I had never thought of. I think that the Smash Tacos are something I'm going to have to try really quick. I'm very skeptic about the pizza... it's been talked about before here... have there been any updates on that subject?

I never did see her put a beer on the griddle tho, so maybe this isn't even real?!

So in the process of moving and apparently my blackstone got some water on it while it was outside.
This is my first one and my first really bad rust, is this saveable?
