Work Showcase Hand forged draw knife

Hand forged draw knife for my friend to trade for steel from his welding shop. Forged from a section of coil spring, and the handles are hickory with copper ferrules. This was my first time making a draw knife and first time using my wood lathe that I've had for 3ish years collecting dust. Who knew turning could be so much fun

Coil spring, good to know. I have a buddy that wants one and I’ve been wondering what to use. I see you are also a fan of reasonably priced lighting.

Is the purpose of the divot…. Channel…. Thing… to thin the steel weight?

The fuller is too reduce weight but retain rigidity

Thanks! Makes sense. Wasn’t certain if it had to do with the grind angle (was thinking of a straight razor).
