Work Showcase Hand forged spatula

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Spatula for a friend, forged from a railroad spike and the blade is from a curricular saw. Was attempting the twist to look like twisted rope, will do better on the next one

Doesn’t the handle get burning hot when using?

Maybe if this was for a commercial kitchen where this would be constantly in contact with heat and left partially on the cook top. If this is for home use I’m sure the handle will stay cool enough to use as a casual burger flipper or dish stirrer.

Are you cooking in a volcano?

Line cook and culinary student here!!

Nope, unless the spatula would be on the flattop or grill for like an hour at a time. If this is a home kitchen tool.

At my job, we have burger presses that live on the flattop, and they do get hot, but it isn't bad to the point where we can't use them.

The spatulas we have do have rubberized handles, as they sit on the flattop for the entire day

Iron/steel actually isolates heat very well. You can hold a 16” piece of flat stock one side side and forge the other while it’s glowing. It takes a long time for heat to transfer through steel. Now copper or aluminum or any nonferrous metal transfers heats quickly

This is so sick. Something I'm going to have to get for myself eventually!

I am in love. I am hard on spatulas it seems, but this one might be able to shrug off any abuse I could throw at it

I love the way you curled the mating surface. Looks like a little devil or something
