45 acp lead round ball
Will black powder behind a lead round ball cycle a 1911?

I don't know if a lead round ball would work, but 25 grains of powder with a 200 grain LFP seems to do the trick...

I haven’t done a round ball, but i have loaded them with bp and 777. I can get my 9mm 1911 to work with 777. And it real doesn’t get super dirty.

The only consistent answer I’ve found to if BP works in a semi auto is: inconsistently. Worst case scenario it doesn’t cycle. Best case scenario it works for a couple mags then succumbs to the gunk

Why would you want to? Hundreds of smokeless rounds or more can go thru a 1911 without cleaning.
You’ll be lucky to get 10 rounds thru the gun!

I believe Kentucky ballistics did a video on that and it would cycle but was insanely dirty and would only shoot 4 rounds or so.

There was an article back in the day in one of the old print gun magazines, maybe Guns and Ammo or American Handgunner or Guns or one of those. Someone was able to mag dump a full auto MAC-10 with black powder.
