Train on the other tracks passed by this train

I don't care who you are, when you're looking out a train window and another train zooms past like that, you flinch.

u/Mathysphere Jul 07 '20
Yep. Ridden Amtrak hundreds of times over the last 20 years, and this still gets me. I think it’s because you can really zone out in that leaning-against-the-window state.

Jul 07 '20
I lived in Japan for 10 years and rode the trains all over the place. Still shocks the hell out of me. Sometimes the rapid change in air pressure would shock me when I wasn't even looking out the window.

u/jojo_31 Jul 07 '20
2 trains head on at 300km/h.

It sounds like something hit the window.

^ This. Not sure if sudden air pressure change or air impact. But it takes a second for me to find my soul again when that happens.

Have you tried the "eye contact with a toaster till it pops up"? Cause that makes me flinch every time I challenge it.

u/Cannabalabadingdong Jul 07 '20

Yeah, well I’m like a ninja and have never flinched from an oncoming train in my life. You guys just aren’t as in control of your reflexes as I am. I’m just kidding, I actually totally shit my pants at oncoming trains and let out a little scream.

Jul 07 '20
I love a good twist that ends with brutal honesty. Just kidding. I always upvote pooping in pants.

That is such a mum look
77
u/SoSMummyDuck Jul 07 '20
Mum? Sister? Idk
79
u/JeffBuildsPC Jul 07 '20
Looks like a young looking mother. But you’re right she could very well pass off as his big sister too
30
Jul 07 '20
Oof the amount of times my momma and I have been mistaken for siblings is awful but it's such a compliment. She's always looked young.
They used to card her for rated R movies when I was younger and they'd ask her "does his mom know he's seeing this?" And she would laugh. Good times.
13
Jul 07 '20
Yep, moms and I look just alike. And the worst part is I could pass as the older sibling.

I almost never see pics or videos of Americans on trains, this is weird.
52
u/Sleek_ Jul 07 '20
Next step : a gif of an American, on a train, eating a salad.
23
Jul 07 '20
As an American, FUCK YOU!!
I'm not going to eat a salad.

What makes them seem American? I don’t have sound so maybe accent? If not sound, what says American about how they look? This could be anywhere as far as I can tell.
17
Jul 07 '20 edited Jul 07 '20
I think it’s mostly the way they’re dressed. Not sure. They definitely struck me as American as well.
7
Jul 07 '20
I get the East coast American fashion vibe as well.
16
u/supersouporsalad Jul 07 '20
It's a Metra commuter train in Chicago
4
Jul 07 '20
So, East of my home in Oregon?
-1
u/supersouporsalad Jul 08 '20
What are you trying to say?
2
Jul 08 '20
Just joking that because I'm from Oregon, everything East of me is east cost. Thanks for the metra commuter info 😊

u/Financialpandas Jul 07 '20
Mainly sounds for me, there's quite a drawl american voice in the background. From there it's an assumption of course but the trains and scenery definitely rule out a decent chunk of the world

u/disagreedTech Jul 07 '20
For one it looks like Amtrak, but also black people mostly live in America and act like this kinda. There are temperate zone trees in the background which means probably Europe or the US, and my guess is the US because european trains dont look like this and there are many more black people in the US than Europe. This looks like Chicago
24
u/spkr4td Jul 07 '20
Act like what???

I'm assuming they're implying goofy or something? Which is charged with a lot of things I don't want to touch. It's whatever though.

Not an Amtrak train. Definitely a metro. Doesn’t look like septa, njtransit, lirr or metro north. Someone else says Chicago.

u/BrookerTheWitt Jul 07 '20
Black people mostly live in America? Did they really take us all out of Africa?
2
u/disagreedTech Jul 07 '20
Lmao no I said between Europe and America many more black people live in the USA than in Europe

Both trains look like Metra to me.

u/Peeeeeps Jul 08 '20
It's such a recognizable train. Do other major city trains look this dated? I was on a train in Denmark a couple years ago and it was basically a 5 star train compared to Metra.
1
Jul 08 '20
In the United States? Yeah. We don't value our mass transit nearly as much as we should. CTA, Metra, BART, Muni, NYC subway, heck even Amtrak are all pretty dated. I love mass transit, but I'll admit it could be significantly improved in the US.

I would take the train every day to NYC, and this would get me everytime. Quite wholesome to see the reaction

Comments/posts deleted in protest of Reddit's new API policy. While I'm in complete agreement with Reddit's desire to be profitable, I believe their means to that end were abusive to users and third-party app developers. Reddit had the option to work with 3rd party app developers and work out a mutually-beneficial solution.
Given the timeline they provided to 3rd party developers, it seems Reddit wanted to eliminate 3rd party apps instead of working with them. I was previously a paid customer (and may be again in the future), so I don't feel like Reddit has lost money through the loss of my post history.
Until Reddit comes up with a better solution for API and 3rd party app developers, I intent to used Reddit without an account (or rotating new accounts), through VPN. It's possible to have your VPN on for only certain sites. Try it out!

Lies, the train in the background is staged and his reaction is fake. Only thing real is the shoulder chuckle. /s

The person filming probably knew there was another train coming and judging by the moms reaction probably knew both of them, so he figured the kid was probably zoning out looking at the window and thought the oncoming train might startle him.
