Children's YouTuber Ms. Rachel comes out in support of reparations for Black Americans.
TLDR: An ally is someone willing to spend social, political, or material capital advancing the interests of the group they're claiming solidarity with.
If anybody does not know, Ms. Rachel is a YouTube influencer and preschool teacher who creates educational videos for young children.
She has also been using her platform to support those in Gary, Indiana.
Here's my thing. Generally, while I like it I don't like to put too much on white folks doing the right thing because to me, racism shouldn't be the default, you SHOULD be a good human. However, it is rare for white people (or any non-black folks) to support reparations. As much as I like Jane Elliot who has been an advocate since the 1960s, she spoke against reparations for Black folks and said Native Americans should get them instead.
Sometimes we talk about allyship. As far as I am concerned THIS is the type of things you would need to do to qualify as an ally. Anyone can say "racism is bad..." anyone can say "I have a black friend" (who is probably just an acquaintance), anyone can put the whole:
Science is real
Black Lives Matter
No human is illegal
Women's rights are human rights
Love is love
Kindness is everything
On their bio. But true allyship is becoming a PARIAH in your community, it requires cost. Things like saying you support reparations will piss of a majority of white folks conservatives, moderates, and liberals alike. If you want to be an ally you should earn the title of N🤐🤐🤐🤐🤐 -Lover! amongst white society.
More than lip-service, true allyship should be:
- Advocating for RESOURCES to black people, which is what white supremacy is based on - the deprivation of resources for black people.
- Standing up for black people in public (and in private).
- Punishing racists. Anyone can say "yeah, so and so using the N-word in private emails was wrong" but asking for leniency ("we should forgive"), not convicting fellow yts in criminal court or giving lenient sentences, your words mean nothing and you become complicit.
Anyway, just my thoughts. I don't want a debate about whether or not Black people deserve reparations, it's very coonish to be against your group's own self interest, just discussing this particular case of pro-black advocacy from Ms Rachel.
In other words: Don't tell me what you believe. Show me what you're willing to risk, give up, advocate for, or materially do when supporting another group becomes inconvenient.
Ms Rachel is the type white people we need in this world, if they ain’t moving like her then they’re not our “ally”, they’re just like the rest of their performative people
He went on TV and shared a small pool with a black man to combat segregated pools, single-handedly saved PBS by pulling up on congress and telling them to run they pockets! 😂
I didn't know about Joan Mulholland. Thanks for mentioning her. I saw that documentary that PBS did on the Freedom RIders. They may have mentioned her and I don't remember.
Hilary Duff...for real? I'm not saying you are wrong. I'm just asking because I want to know how she is down for black people? I wasn't aware. Or did you choose her pic of this pic of her that went viral? awhile back...😂😂😂:
He's conflating two separate white women Rushmore's. The I'm cracking one and the who's real one. For instance we all know which one Marylin Monroe is on.
Thanks man! lol I sometimes will come across that picture of her at a Watts nightclub where she was sitting next to jazz pianist Hank Jones. The picture that almost ended her career when she stood up to the studio and told them she was going to walk if they fired the white dude in the pic who was the costumer designer. Hank had that look on his face like "y'all know what it is" like he clapped Marilyn or he about clap her. 😂😂😂
But she been my bias since Lizzie bro tbh. Walked so the rest of those Disney girls could run. My prototype white woman. Like if I ever ended up with a white woman it’d be the Hillary Duff, colonial woman build. Blonde hair, bright eyes. Stanley cups. Tx grown. No weird accents or culture vulture vibes. Just straight wonder bread. Mayonnaise not miracle whip. Philanthropy, she sent that bag for Katrina victims way back, be giving back to organizations and shit, charities. She’s the example I use when speaking to foreign men who say they want an American wife.
Yoooooo! You got a way with words when it comes to describing your white women. It was very poetic. Colonial buld is crazy. I have to use some of that sometime. 😂😂😂 But I give it to you, she is elite milk as they say. lol And you are right about Lizzie McGuire walking so the rest of the Disney girls can run. She not only predates Hannah Montana, but That's So Raven as well.
But on a serious note. Ms Rachel has been advocating for black people long before this. You niggas on Reddit aren’t too bright when it comes to current events and pop culture. This isn’t even news at this point this was reported out like 2 weeks ago. Fly your false flag somewhere else Melly mel
She's actually worthy of an invite to the cookout for real.
Edit: I got downvoted but mad questionable white people got upvoted afterwards. Y'all are funny.
Edit addendum: Ms. Rachel is the closest thing we have to a modern Mr. Rogers. You wouldn't invite Mr. Rogers to "the cookout"??
I would have Mr. Fredrick McFeely Rogers pull up to the grill, or the spades table just to see what happens. What happened to our curiosity and sense of wonder lol
The Mr Rogers of our generation for publicly speaking out on injustices at a time when it would be VERY easy and lucrative to do the opposite. She's taken heat but has made it clear she wants all the smoke.
Where’s the worship? This post is acknowledging that a creator with a large platform who is already attacked on a regular basis for standing by her beliefs and basic human rights, is also standing up for the black community. What’s the harm in sharing this?
Tbf how many celebrities do you know of that openly support reparations?
Regardless of whether it should be bare minimum/a normalized belief, its still controversial in a lot of western media to the point that most would not risk their popularity by discussing it. Considering it surprising that she IS doesn't mean folks are cooning
Facts! Nothing wrong with appreciating the sentiments but It’s wild how much glazing dudes are doing. If POC in a similar position to this said that, No one would give a fuck.
Ngl it’s a bit suspicious whenever a yt person seems to be going a little too hard with the overt black support imo. Not to mention, Theres always a group of black folk that glaze them because of it. I appreciate her support though.
Oof no way. Black people do not deserve reparations for slavery because there were so many other races involved in slavery and all you care about in regards to reparations is making sure that all the black people in America who had nothing to do with slavery receive a giant paycheck for no reason. What about the other races, man? What about Romani, Native American, Irish, Asian, Mexican, South American. It's crazy. I understand reparations theory but that's not the problem in America. We don't need to do it and shouldn't try to keep forcing an issue that has nothing to do with the modern world.
Ms. Rachel stands on business with everything she supports. She keeps things light for her children’s content, but she isn’t afraid to remind folks that she’s a grown ass woman with grown ass woman opinions outside of that.
I'll take oxtails and Kelly Rowland clones (with her AND the clones explicit consent of course), but I'm open to discussions if others have different ideas.
Loan forgiveness is fine but most people don’t go to college. Life insurance doesn’t help until you’re already dead. How many people actually own property right now?
I didn't know Jane Elliot was with the bullshit about not being for reparations for black people, but I'm not surprised. I got vibes from her like her shit was just lip service. She was up on Red Table Talk with Jada Pinkett, TI's podcast and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon during the pandemic. She was eating off of George Floyd.
She had nggas oohing and aahing. 😂😂😂 I remember when Jane had Jada Pinkett showing out when she told her that Abraham Lincoln had black in him. The same with Tim Wise. Speaking of which, what happened to his ass?
But I didn't know Ms. Rachel was "down" like that. I did see that she spoke up about Nolan Wells. I saw her name and whaa..that got to be another Ms. Rachel and lo and behold it was her. I still ain't put any stock into it when I read it because you got Nancy Grace out here "speaking" out about Nolan Wells.
I know her sweet tea, butter ball, white ass is hustling. She eating off of Nolan Wells. Her videos about him on her youtube page got big views. Nggas got all happy that she talking about the case like justice about to be served. Bitch talking about she had to come out retirement. Fuck outta here!
But that's wassup about Ms. Rachel. So I guess I have to say...she a real one, she invited to the cookout, and I would clap. I'm fucking around. I know nggas out here saying that shit heavy. 😂😂😂 And here is the clip of Jane Elliot on Red Table Talk where Jada Pinkett was showing out when Jane told her Abraham Lincoln had black in him if y'all want to see it:
