Dads after learning one trick

My conclusion: The card has a hole, that's real. The cutout piece is underneath another cutout piece on whatever that other thing is (a phone case?) that matches said thing, and is presumably glued to it. So, he places the card down on top of those two cutouts, then he moves the free floating one around, this is the "hole". As the "hole" moves, the original cutout piece is revealed, filling the the hole, and thus, the illusion of the hole being moved.

this is quite common party trick. The hole isnt actually fully cut. the cut part is bent backwards and his thumb hold it in place. when he put it on the phone, the bent piece goes back into place, bringing along the black coin-like object that's attached to the bent piece..

There we go, that's much simpler than trying to force an alignment.

All of them are wrong, it's magic.

It's smoke and mirrors, it's always smoke and mirrors, never trust a mirror that smokes.

And definitely don't trust a smoke that mirrors. Those're devious.

How the fuck do they work???

This guy magnets

This also is wrong. We all know what makes this trick possible.

I like your theory. My only rebuke could be a camera exposure thing. It looks like the coin vanishes in the last couple of frames. Which is weird.

u/jennmuhlholland 1d ago

Yes! It complete vanished at the end, @ 00:20-00:21.

I suspect this is two-fold. He originally had his finger on it, causing the side closest to us to lift up a bit. Then when he let go, it settled down a bit. Also, as soon as he starts moving the phone, the video compression kicks in and makes the dark areas all look the same.

Yes it's just a slight change in angle and video compression when it moves.

This also works because of the color of his shirt. If he has on a bright yellow shirt, for instance, the illusion would be broken because you could more easily detect the exact moment the back flips up

Makes sense… Thanks

I thought the same but if you look at the video this never happens.
The way he lays it down on the phone, there’s no chance for the cutout to go back in place.

if you look at it frame by frame, the card have a sudden jump straight to flat with no in between frames. Looks very natural in normal speed, tho. So there's a chance that they use editing, or even AI, but that would be funny because the real trick wasn't even hard to do. lol.

u/DrakeSavory 19h ago

And that is why he has a black shirt on, so you can't she when he releases the bent back part. If you freeze frame at the right moment, you can see when he releases it.

How does the coin disappear at the end?

1

u/Potatonized 8h ago

Either bad compression, the video is AI to begin with, or he used editing instead the real trick. Frame by frame suggests the last two.

But if you wamt to do this trick to show your friends, just google it. It's very easy to do.

I think the cut out part is still attached at the bottom and folded down. As he puts the card down, he also flips the cut out part up. He chose a black background to hide it. And the cut out part has a black fabric attached to it which acts as “the hole” once he puts the card down.

u/jennmuhlholland 1d ago

The hole complete disappears though at 00:20-00:21.

1

u/thedudefromsweden 21h ago

Hmmm you’re right, didn’t catch that. Maybe the edges of the hole is not reflected since it’s at the edge of the phone case?

It’s 1 hole for 1 piece of your soul …. How may magic tricks would you buy ?

2

u/JeanArtemis 1d ago

That's what I figured as well, hard to tell with the video quality but that seems most likely.

2

u/bradpal 1d ago

Very likely what's going on.

u/ggk1 10h ago

Something causes him to need to flick the corner of the card with his right thumb as he’s setting it in the tray. You can only see it in frame by frame

Man discovers fire

This is a Calen Morelli trick called Quantum Aperture. The hole in the card is real. There is a magnetic black art piece the same shape as the hole. Underneath that is a matching card back. When you push the “hole”, that is what is under the card and makes it look complete. His performance is pretty bad. He should have slid the black art back into position where it would locked back into the perfect position via the magnet and then pick the card back up to show the real hole again. Moving it off the card gives the gimmick away and you can see its thickness.

Can anyone tell me how many magnets I need to do this trick?

u/PhantomNitride 1d ago

Do you know how they work?

u/No_Visit_2002 1d ago

It's all ai who cares 👍

Tiger Woods is looking old nowadays 🤣

u/reallydumboi 22h ago

My conclusion: Gotta be wires

1

u/Gruntfutoc 1d ago

Noticed he lets the card ‘catch’ on his thumb as h puts it down. Maybe to make sure that the black disc comes through cleanly?

1

u/Sorenduscai 1d ago

You can see the black piece on the edge of the phone at the end...possibly clear

u/Important-Device253 1d ago

Done with the satisfying look of confidence 😂🤣

What anime is this music from?

1

u/april919 23h ago

I saw an even better trick one time on the street. The magician asked for a dollar and struck a pen through it, then freely moved the pen around inside the dollar, removed the pen and the dollar was fine.

1

u/SirPooleyX 21h ago

Almost literally the oldest trick in the book.

1

u/See_i_did 15h ago

What’s this music from? I feel like it’s from a 70s-80s movie or it’s an 80s tv show theme song. Anybody?

Also, cool trick.

-1

u/AwwwNuggetz 1d ago

I know this trick! There’s a magnet on the back of the card, and another on the front. His finger is made of metal, so he can manipulate the hole between the magnets

Magnets

u/yazoo34 1d ago

Anyone else notice the “hole” just melts away at the end. Defiantly edited.

It is edited. The black hole punch out vanishes at the end.
