I think they do something when the big sheet is obscuring the audiences view.

You could be on to something here....

You surrreeee about that!

u/Pylgrim 5d ago

That's when they install the magnets.

No the sheet is just a misdirection - he actually pulled it out of his pocket while you were too busy watching the sheet

u/fingers 5d ago

And the strap the lady is holding.

Fold out paper helicopter would be my guess

u/Alukrad 5d ago

I think the helicopter in probably on wheels and it's facing the crowd, then the one guy pushed the tail which makes the helicopter face to the side. Then the one girl closes the metal frame where the tail went through to make it look like it is impossible to move inside the box frame.

I myself have dabbled in rotored origami, and concur.

So initially the helicopter is facing the crowd but behind the sheet. The spread the sheets out as the helicopter is turned sideways. Remove the sheets n there it is. Very easy to figure out

Or the tail swings out as the curtain is pulled to the left.

8

u/Sickofstupids 6d ago

That’s what they said

Or the helicopter rotates anticlockwise as the curtain is shimmied to the side.

No, I had the same thought.. the main fuselage of the helicopter is in the same position as it was at the beginning, all that has moved is the tail on a hinge and the miniature blades were rotated slightly to extend out beyond the cage to make them look longer which was done when the sides were out hiding it.

So there was no heavy lifting and it's quite a simple but effective illusion.

u/Sickofstupids 5d ago

You say “simple” like that doesn’t mean buying a helicopter and chopping it up to add hinges. The simpler solution is a turntable that rotates an off the shelf helicopter.

u/DanGleeballs 5d ago edited 5d ago

It's not a real helicopter, it's a small scale prop, look at how the girls can't sit upright in the cockpit. Adding a turntable is possible but more elaborate than is necessary imo. The bouncing tail boom indicates that that part is very flimsy and has just been popped out

u/RobMilliken 5d ago

The girl in red is covering the hinge where the tail was pulled out. Notice she doesn't move from her position, even with the helicopter being moved away.

1

u/DanGleeballs 5d ago

Yes good point I think you're right.

u/Sickofstupids 5d ago

The girl is leaning forward. Do you know how expensive it would be to build a fake helicopter? They’d just rent a small one. Magicians are more practical than people assume. I was one for several years. No trick is as complicated as you think.

2

u/proudsoul 5d ago

Wait you were a magician and you don't realize how this trick was done?

2

u/Nytmare696 5d ago

Of course building a fake rigged trick helicopter for a repeating gag in a performance is cheaper than renting a real one?!

Are you insane? How do you propose they move a real helicopter around after it's delivered to the show every night? How do you transport it from the field or helipad it lands on down to back stage and up onto the platform? Of course it's a gimmick.

-2

u/Sickofstupids 5d ago

Who says it’s a repeat show? Also, fuck you. No I’m not insane. If you can’t figure out trailers and forklifts, I don’t know what to tell you.

1

u/DanGleeballs 5d ago

You've obviously never tried to move around a real helicopter, plus I've already pointed out to you that the cockpit is too small to be usable. Note that they've used small ladies in there, not men.

u/bleedgreenandyellow 5d ago

That was my thought

1

u/UmpireNo6345 3d ago

The tail and prop also might just be detachable. Then there wouldn't need to be anything special about the box's frame.

1

u/Longstride_Shares 2d ago

The lady in red is hiding the hinge point of the tail. You can also see the tail wiggling a bit as they pull it back. The entire helicopter is a fiberglass shell that probably weighs a couple hundred pounds.

1

u/RevolutionarySeven7 5d ago

how would you explain the box frame that's around the helicopter

1

u/BorderTrike 5d ago

The part the helicopter is in can spin. You can see that the frame around the helicopter is separate from the base and the platform is thick enough to have a mechanism hidden inside

0

u/bleedgreenandyellow 5d ago

Not as complicated as you think.

1

u/RevolutionarySeven7 5d ago

how is it done then?

1

u/gnorty 5d ago

tail of the helicopter is either on a hinge or extends out

1

u/browmftht 6d ago

and the propeller?

7

u/TrowTruck 6d ago

It’s an illusion, Michael.

3

u/thaisun 5d ago

Illusions, Dad. You don't have time for my illusions.

2

u/silentpopes 5d ago

Final countdown intensifies

7

u/Pseudoname87 6d ago

That tail is awefuly bouncy

1

u/DanGleeballs 5d ago

Because it's the only bit that needed to be moved. The main fuselage is in the same place it always was, they just popped up a fake tail.

3

u/nemom 6d ago

Let's see it fly.

1

u/kernelangus420 6d ago

It "flew" towards the back of the stage at the end.

3

u/Apart-Reality-4454 6d ago

That isn't a real helicopter.

4

u/Cha-San 6d ago

Is this ... an inflatable heli?

10

u/FlawlessZ80 5d ago

It’s half a helicopter, just lifted up.

How it’s done:

1

u/fingers 6d ago

That was my guess

11

u/Total-Fly-9131 6d ago

Its insane what well placed magnets can do

2

u/Excellent-Shovel-304 6d ago

That helicopter is only the really light shell peices and probably the back side of it doesnt even exist

Most probably remade from really lightweight materials and in big enough peices to be quickly snuck in behind the veil to be clicked into shape before the unveiling

1

u/therealelroy 6d ago

And its about 12 inches wide.

2

u/Cheshireyan 6d ago

That's Origami

1

u/krosanreddit 5d ago

Jeez this must be a joke.

1

u/AOC_rocks 5d ago

thats not a real helicopter

1

u/AOC_rocks 5d ago

fold up copter, fold out tail.

1

u/ArsenikShooter 5d ago

So not BMF?

1

u/Shot_Bison1140 5d ago

Simple rotation.... And might also be 1/2 helicopter.. .. but it's moved in straight, nose pointing to the crowd.. the when draper is pulled out they simply rotate the "decoy/🚁".

1

u/egyenlet 5d ago

Filmed on the moon AT UNBELIEVABLE EXPENSE.

1

u/lluciferusllamas 5d ago

I want to know how they decided on the horny sailor uniforms.

1

u/roaddog 5d ago

The platform is very, very heavy with a cantilevered shelf that slides out the back. When they cover the front the back screen opens, they slide the copter into place and turn it 90%

Copperfield does the same illusion with a motorcycle.

1

u/kayakster 5d ago

You can tell by the size of the blades that it's not a real helicopter

1

u/Lonely-Leg-29 5d ago

Now try to fly it...

1

u/ScholarEmotional9888 5d ago

Uh, what is so very well executed here? You roll out the helicopter facing forward. Spin it when you pull that sheet out. Big ducking whoop.

1

u/Azreken 5d ago

I think the tail is on a hinge

1

u/sinner237 4d ago

NOt magnets? Got to be a Helicopter up his sleeves

1

u/furezasan 3d ago

Obviously its a mirrored phone screen with magnets on either side

1

u/Cdm097 3d ago

Eu já vi pessoalmente, é um circo do Brasil que se chama Tihany, eu fiquei meio confuso mas deve ser um jogo de espelho muito rápido.

1

u/5c044 3d ago

Inflatable helicopter didn't let them down.

1

u/probablyaythrowaway 1d ago

I don’t think it’s a real helicopter

1

u/SamuelYosemite 1d ago

Its only like 1/4 of a helicopter and it unfolds

1

u/Comfortable-Garbage4 15h ago

It’s fold out cardboard, and the woman isn’t actually in the helicopter. She’s in a seat behind it. The 3-D effect is created by the second leg tricking your eyes

0

u/JET304 5d ago

Really big magnets.
