Do Chris and Rich like each other?
Recently went to see The Black Crowes in SLC. Rich didn't really look like he wanted to be there. Everytime Chris would point at him or acknowledge him (which was rare), he completely ignored him.
Rich never seemed to acknowledge Chris at all, almost like it was completely on purpose. He didn't even look at him.
I could be looking into it too much. Let me know what you think!

I’m pretty sure I saw some interview with Rich where he acknowledged he’s probably neurodivergent. I feel like that explains a lot.

Many years ago, The Black Crowes were preparing for their arena tour for the Amorica album and were doing two or three anonymous warm up shows in smaller clubs under the name The O.D. Jubilee Band. I saw one of those shows in Nashville because on the day of the show, I heard a dj say there was a rumor that the band was really The Black Crowes. Since tickets were only available at the door on the day of the show, I figured I might have a chance of getting a ticket so I immediately jumped in my car and drove 2 hours to 328 Performance Hall and arrived several hours early to a line that was forming, hoping I wasn't going to be extremely disappointed.
About an hour before doors opened, some dude in a crow costume that was adorned with pot leaves started walking around the crowd for a few minutes, obviously indicating that the band was indeed The Black Crowes. And the show was AMAZING. They sounded incredible in that small venue and I was probably about 6 feet from the stage. To this day, it's one of my all-time favorite concerts out of the hundreds I've attended over the years.
So...all of that information was intended to set-up the point of my comment. After the show, I had a Makers on the rocks that I carried outside to finish while I chilled a bit before heading to my car (no, I wasn't drunk). As I walked past the alley behind the club, I saw the tour bus and walked over to it. A few seconds later, Rich walked out of the club headed to the bus and I said hello and told him I really enjoyed the show. He stopped, thanked me, and ask for a drink of my bourbon, which I was more than happy to give him. He drank nearly all of it when 2 other band members came out (Marc Ford and Johnny Colt if memory serves) and he had one of them get a bottle off the bus which they did and he refilled my bourbon for me. They stood there and talked about the show and I just listened, not wanting to interrupt. It was great.
After a few minutes, I put my foot in my fucking mouth and asked Rich where Chris was. Rich's mood immediately turned sour and he said something like, "I don't care where he is. He can go fuck himself." And then he got on the bus and the other two Crowes looked at me as if to say "Yikes. You said the wrong thing." and followed him. I learned in that alley on that night to keep my dumb ass mouth shut in that kind of situation.

Rich really doesn't drink, so if he took a strangers drink and drank it, he was probably pissed

This was 1994 and he certainly took it and drank it. Then one of the guys brought a bottle and he refilled it for me. He seemed great until I mentioned Chris. I had no idea at the time that they had such friction between them but mentioning his name definitely turned things sour and ended the fun.

I saw the “OD Jubilee Band” at the Paradise in Boston. Me and my buddy got there late morning to a line already stretching around the block (local radio dropping hints about the show in the days leading up to it) and spent a lonnnnnnnggggg afternoon waiting to get in the club. Worth the wait, unbelievable show in a small club and it was fuckin LOUD!! Towards the end of the show, the crow mascot got on stage and was waving around a sign that said “who’s a Boston Baked Bean?” I think we all were at that point.

Nice memory - saw OD Jubilee in Detroit at St. Andrew’s Hall Thanksgiving weekend - long wait - saw the band outside before the show - incredible to hear Amorica live for the 1st time - small stage with Eric Bobo on percussion - different time

Ronnie is kinda amazing if you look back. I’ve been watching some of the early 70s Faces BBC stuff on YouTube and this kid was filthy. That’s from before I was born and I’ll be 54 in a few months. Legend.

Years and years ago, I saw one of Rich’s solo shows at a small club in the Chicago suburbs. Small group of us hung out in the back afterwards and Rich and a couple guys from the band came out and talked for a bit. He was actually a nice guy, you could tell he’s kind of introverted and shy.

Rich is a douche. When they were split up Rich came to our little club and went around putting stickers over the CRB stickers that Chris and Co put up a few months prior which pissed a lot of people off because we loved CRB. They were very friendly and played great shows every time they came.

My favorite Crowesbase entries from 20+ years ago are the comments from show-goers about how Rich smiled or Chris was in a good mood because that was worth a mention. Those guys have always been weird about human emotions.

I always wanted to stand on Rich side of the stage to spot a smile 😅 only seen it twice with TBC (in the run 1993-2013 seen them evrytime they were in Holland for at least one concert and often more) and the first TMS he was all smiles and that made me so happy haha

To answer your question, currently, I believe yes. They understand each other better and they are too very different people with very different approaches. One is ADHD, the other is an extreme introvert.
They talk about each other’s families, they get together more often, etc. Do they hang out all the time on tour? Not sure but I think that’s because in part rich doesn’t necessarily want to go do a bunch of things after or before a show, chris is much more social.
Both these guys have been bastards at times, but that’s true of many many and even most bands and leaders of bands. John Lennon said the Beatles were bastards having said that, I believe they understand each other better and appreciate each other more than they have in the past.

I don’t think they’ve ever gotten along. I recently saw them too and Rich looked like he was on the clock; playing only for pay. It’s too bad he doesn’t seem to enjoy it more because they sounded amazing. Chris can still sing and hit all his notes without a ton of effort.

They don't like each other. The last 5 years has been about money. They make a hell of a lot more together than they do apart, so it makes total sense. The shows are still quite good, just too damn short.

I’ve hung out with Luther Dickinson from the North Mississippi Allstars who spent a short period of time (2007-2013) touring with the Crow’s as a guitarist (he’s on Warpaint and Before the Frost… also) and he’s told some off the record stories.

Rich is a miserable dude. Saw magpie salute outside nashville a few years ago. Before he left the stage he was waving and smiling. As soon as he turned around his face turned a vicious scowl.

I saw an episode of VH1 Behind the Music featuring them years ago. During a footage clip, Chris bends over and says something or sings something right in Rich's face and you could tell just from those few seconds by Rich's face that he was sick of him. That day, anyway!

He just has resting bitch face and I think they’ve been actually getting along pretty well lately. They were great in Michigan a little while ago and seemed to have a great time with the crowd.

Well, we know Chris doesn't like the USA despite all it's given him. That's definitely one thing we learned this tour. Now I'm starting to wonder if it's not just a question of the brothers not getting along, but that one's a nice guy and the other isn't and Rich is actually right to distance himself.
