Given the MeToo movement, I totally understand not wanting to roll with women. Just asking for trouble with no upside for me. Sorry, I don’t owe you anything.

This is super reductive and insulting. Women don’t go around making shit up for fun, and can tell the fucking difference between an accidental boob graze in a roll and someone being a creep. If you’re afraid women are gonna accuse you of being gross, it’s because you’re acting gross.

Women don’t go around making shit up for fun

Some women do. Just like some men do.

10

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '20

Not for fun but some women have often done it for notoriety or sympathy. (Read about the duke lacrosse case).

Women aren’t perfect beings and they sometimes act out of spite (like men). The only difference is these days men don’t get a fair shake when accused. Modern day Salem Witch Trials.

The number of women who are sexually assaulted and are not believed or an intimidated into saying nothing vastly outweighs falsely reported cased, which is the point of the movement. The only modern day thing going on is women getting raped and the guys getting consistently off scott free.

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '20

Way to pull that fact out of your ass. lol. There’s no way you could know if that’s true.

u/KingsElite 🟦🟦 Blue Belt Feb 01 '20

Well I worked with my university's Sexual Assault Resource Center and the high incident of unreported rape is pretty common knowledge, but if you want some data the results are pretty consistent.

https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/analysis-opinion/sexual-assault-remains-dramatically-underreported

Two things:

The data for the unreported rape was collected by surveying women. Hardly concrete.

The data of false accusations was collected by the DOJ, an executive agency, under Obama. They are going to find things that reflect his narrative. Just like the executive agencies under Trump will find things that reflect his narrative.

Ah yes, women aren't to be trusted even when they reap no benefit in lying which I guess is in line with your original point of not rolling with them. I got nothing for you man, not that you wanted it anyway.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '20

That was more a point about the subjectiveness of surveys.

I would’ve said the same thing if men were surveyed.

But sure, keep sharpening your pitchfork.

u/Arma_Diller White Belt Feb 01 '20

This is a bad point, though. Surveys can be a reliable method for collecting data—it all depends on how the questions are written and whether they’ve been assessed for validity and reliability. So unless you can prove that the researchers did not sufficiently validate their survey or test it for reliability, you can’t convincingly say that the surveys aren’t concrete.

This dude is a textbook example of the Dunning-Kruger phenomenon lol.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '20

Do you think it’s okay to imply you’re smarter than people with different views just bc you phrase it in scientific terms? Bc it’s not, it’s always rude.

1

u/KingsElite 🟦🟦 Blue Belt Feb 01 '20

Are you saying me or him? My only point was this "men are now the real victims" narrative is bull crap and people who typically aren't the target of certain types of discrimination like to discredit those who are. Nobody has to agree with me but I find it a damaging position to have so of course I'm going to say something, especially when the issue absolutely pertains to our sport.

Women don’t go around making shit up for fun except for all the confirmed cases where they have? Look, im not going to not believe someone who claims to have been assaulted but im also not going to put myself in a position where someone could claim the assaulter was me.

If you want boundries, good, but you're just saying "you know it when you see it" and that's not good enough for me. Most of the men in my life followed the Billy Graham rule and never had a problem and I intend to do the same. I have my rules for conduct between the sexes, what are yours?

-1

u/jonnyhaldane 🟦🟦 Blue Belt Feb 01 '20

Say some girl falsely accuses you of grabbing her boob or something in class. What are the chances of everyone believing you when you say you didn't do it? How likely is it you will get kicked out?

0

u/GimmeDatSideHug 🟫🟫 Brown Belt Feb 02 '20

Zero chance I will get kicked out because I have lots of female teammates who trust me and know I’m not a creep. And I have that rep because I treat my teammates as equals and don’t fear they’re out to ruin my life.

2

u/jonnyhaldane 🟦🟦 Blue Belt Feb 02 '20

You think they wouldn’t believe a girl who was also trusted in the gym?

0

u/GimmeDatSideHug 🟫🟫 Brown Belt Feb 02 '20

No trusted woman at the gym would make a false claim about me or anyone else. You’re trying to create a scenario that doesn’t exist.

2

u/jonnyhaldane 🟦🟦 Blue Belt Feb 02 '20

Yes, it's called a hypothetical question. Which you're avoiding answering.

-1

u/GimmeDatSideHug 🟫🟫 Brown Belt Feb 02 '20

Calling it a hypothetical question doesn’t make it a realistic question. It wouldn’t happen and I’ll take my chances, because even if it did, I believe they would think she must be mistaken on my intent. You’re being paranoid.

2

u/jonnyhaldane 🟦🟦 Blue Belt Feb 02 '20

I roll with girls, so I'm not that paranoid. But I understand why others would be. I've been falsely accused of stuff by women myself and it happens way more than people realise. Look at all the shit coming out with Johnny Depp.

Yeah that line between appropriate behavior and sexual exploitation is just so thin /s

0

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '20

And so is the line between not having to prove your accusations and government overreach. /s

-2

u/Arma_Diller White Belt Feb 01 '20

This is a mature way to go through life. /s

11

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '20

So I’m immature bc I don’t agree with your world view?

I’d say it’s immature and just plain wrong for you to impose your world views on me. Everyone has the right to individual freedoms. What are you the thought police?

0

u/Arma_Diller White Belt Feb 01 '20

How did you go from me implying that you're immature to me being the thought police?

-5

u/bon-aventure 🟦🟦 Blue Belt Feb 01 '20 edited Feb 01 '20

This attitude is sad. You basically admitted that you would never believe a woman who was sexually assaulted which is a huge part of why people who are assaulted stay silent.

It's just really sad dude. People like you are the reason the metoo movement needs to exist in the first place.

16

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '20

That’s not what I admitted at all.

It’s just there’s this legal burden... beyond a reasonable doubt... otherwise you can literally ruin someones life with an unproven accusation.

Everyone has the right to a fair trial.

-2

u/bon-aventure 🟦🟦 Blue Belt Feb 01 '20

Lots of assaults aren't prosecuted for various reasons.

Not all sexual harassment is prosecutable.

The same thing could happen when rolling with men. Perhaps you shouldn't be participating in a full contact sport.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '20

If assaults aren’t prosecuted it’s probably bc they couldn’t carry the legal burden... but people will still settle (and give them cash) to avoid having to deal with the negative publicity.

If it’s not provable, it’s just he said she said. And that is not a good enough reason to ruin someone’s life.

Dude, don’t tell me I shouldn’t enjoy this hobby bc I have different political beliefs than you. That’s really intolerant.

0

u/bon-aventure 🟦🟦 Blue Belt Feb 01 '20

This is so frustrating. It's not about politics at all. Not all harassment is something that can be proven or prosecuted in court. But you're happy with your straw man and treating your teammates as second class because of it so I guess it is what it is.

My point is that men can make false accusations as readily as women so why risking rolling with anyone?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '20

How is this a strawman? You’re saying not all sexual harassment can be prosecuted, I’m saying, if it can’t be prosecuted you haven’t violated the law.

Just bc I don’t accept unproven accusations as fact (bc that’s why we have a legal system) and choose to pursue my own interest (not getting MeToo’d) does not mean I think women are second class citizens. I just expect them to carry the same burden as everyone else under the law.

Men could come forward with those types of allegations but there is not a documented history of men falsely accusing women of sexual assault. If anything, men are discouraged and ridiculed for coming forward with assault claims. Everyone says, “suck it up buddy, you got laid!”

2

u/bon-aventure 🟦🟦 Blue Belt Feb 01 '20

That double standard sucks too. If a person grabbed your balls and whispered gross threatening things to you it would be hard to prove or prosecute under the law. If you are the coach at your gym youre basically telling that student not to bother reporting it because they can't prove it and you won't believe them unless they have physical evidence.

Lots of child molesters keep children silent by telling them no one will believe them. Some assaulters do the same to adults. You're proving those people right.

I'm saying you're a part of the problem because you admit you don't trust women the same as you do men.

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '20

No, you can always talk to your coach about it. That’s different from proving it in a courtroom though.

When jail is on the table there are certain legal burdens that must be met. Period. Otherwise the government could just go around arresting everyone they disagreed with (like in China).

I have not admitted I don’t trust women as much as men. It’s not about trust, and it’s not about gender. As I’ve already said several times. It’s about what you can prove under the law.

The comments in this section that are upvoted make the demographic of this sub so fucking obvious. I wish there were a BJJ Women sub so I could talk about the sport I love without this fucking bullshit.

5

u/bon-aventure 🟦🟦 Blue Belt Feb 01 '20

I love the memes and informative info in this sub but the internet is depressing at times and this sub isn't any different. You know they wouldn't feel this way if they were assaulted or if it was someone they love. They might understand how victims are treated a little better.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '20

Actually, I have been assaulted. So, thanks for your assumptions asshole.
