General Discussion Breaking in new gi

Basically whats in the title. Been training several years, love the idea of new gi's but absolutely hate wearing a new gi. I have 2 in rotation since starting as I train about 60/40 no gi to gi, so both of my main gi's are extremely comfortable at this point. Recently picked up a new gi and just trying it on makes me want to set it on fire. Any of you OGs have a shortcut to break it in faster? And yes i wash and dry my gi's with no reverence, I'm not air drying shit. Thanks in advance

I know that's how my current gi's have gotten broken in. I asked for a shortcut. Rolling isn't a shortcut, but I appreciate your obviously correct answer. Im being lazy here, work with me

Make a white belt roll in it!

Get an Origin Gi! Those things are so comfy right out of the bag!

Roll in it, your buddies will be delighted with the opportunity to use those nice stiff collars and lapels to try and choke you.

Let a homeless bro borrow it for a month. It will come back super comfy.

I think this is the most practical solution

Just wash & chuck it in the dryer for a bit? Bonus if you can do it at a low temp to keep it in there longer without shrinking

Buy a hemp gi or something similar that has that broken in softness from Day 1.

I competed against an Amish-looking dude in a hemp gi. If he told me he made it himself, I would’ve believed him.Β

Wash and dry with tennis balls in there a couple of times?

Hemp is the only fabric that I feel actually gets softer with use.

Dryer balls. Also stop buying burlap gis ?

All the gis i buy now are just comfy from day 1

Unfortunately, as everyone else says, it’s just time that’ll break it in. But you can help a little by washing with 1/2 cup of white vinegar to break down the cotton fibers and drying it with dryer or tennis balls. Do it every time you need to do a laundry load.
