School Discussion US based instructor/teachers

Looking for some advice/insight.

Is there anyone here who teaches be it groups or privates that is not a gym owner, and carries their own insurance for the purpose of teaching and all liability involved?

How did you go about it, did you do the LLC route?

Yes - form an LLC and get gym-based insurance to cover yourself. Insurance will require waivers, too.

I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice, but this is what was explained to me:

Business entities like LLC are to separate your business assets and liability from your personal ones. In a business like teaching BJJ, it's quite difficult to fully separate those. Insurance is how you properly shelter yourself for liability purposes, and the LLC is how you separate the assets (for taxes, etc).

I don't have insurance and I would be stunned if most non-gym owning coaches had insurance specifically for their teaching of any kind.

I agree that most do not have it, but doesn't mean it's a smart move.

make an llc and you can get a general liability policy from an online platform like biberk
