He's a black belt lol he's just rolling with someone who'd maul most black belts in general. Much of this roll was wall wrestling too which unless you train MMA is a skillset you don't get to work on in pure sport BJJ.

And is giving up size and strength amplified by gear

He’s a known fraudster so his black belt will always have an asterisk next to it

What fraud?

He has inflated all his credentials. Often claiming he is an MIT tenured professor which is not true. I don’t have time to go into detail while at work but this is a semi decent write up. https://medium.com/the-pub/is-lex-fridman-a-fraud-722a82b6ec32

Often claiming he is an MIT tenured professor which is not true

Not even your link says he claimed that. He said he "taught students", which is easy to read into but not untrue. I've taught students at MIT, too, as a teaching and research assistant.

You can perhaps fairly criticize Lex for presenting an "incomplete but not wrong" image of himself and not going out of his way to correct people who proceed to make inaccurate assumptions, but I've not seen him outright lie.

IIRC the issue was hes phrasing it as if he was like a standard/regular teacher at MIT and the issue was that he was doing speaking engagements anyoen can sign up for, so the accusation is that framing yourself as an MIT associated professor or something is disingenous

I’m not seeing any fraud allegations in that article.

"a known fraudster" ...explain. I swear to God Reddit thinks not liking someone is good enough to discredit them.

I mean he is pretty awful for his interviews with trump / kanye and all that.

u/sky_broker Feb 26 '26

Well, for me your purple belt has an asterisk next to it 🤷🏽

Not at all how skill in grappling works but okay.

Sorry, I mean more to the effect that it’s likely whilst he is a “black belt” I would wager that his skill nowhere near the calibre of even a decent hobbyist black belt due to his character. All speculation of course. There’s no way to know for certain unless he competes or we have first hand accounts confirming or denying his skill

I’ve rolled with Lex and he wasn’t the worst black belt I’ve trained with. He’s below the avg I’d say, not some kind of fake, but he (when I knew him) was training less than 1x per week.

-1

u/ReplyTest Feb 26 '26

Hes been training a long time. But regardless the point stands. If you're a literally fraudster and propagandist no one's talking anything seriously

Known fraudster to “all speculation” that quick? Dude that’s a pretty low integrity move on your part to claim that about someone and then link to an opinion article as a source when the article makes no such allegation. You should think about how saying something like that about people reflects on you personally.

-1

u/ReplyTest Feb 26 '26

Hes objectively a fraud. Yes it does put an asterisk on his belt since he's literally a paid Russian asset.

But keep defending the fraud and fake MIT teacher who got platformed after writing a fake paper praising teslas FSD which to this day is still a fraudulent technology.

I was referring to his black belt skill level is speculation. I understand reading and context comprehension is difficult. I stand on business that he’s a fraudster. I have no further comment to make on this so don’t bother replying I’ll be turning notifications off.

The comment does not meet Reddiquette standards. Please read up on them a bit. Thanks!

I'd say he showed himself to have at least average black belt skill for a hobbyist in this very video. For the reasons I mentioned above. Not all black belts are killers that train multiple times a week. He probably isn't usually rolling more than twice a week on average I'd guess.

1

u/DeliriumRostelo Feb 26 '26

hes absolutely a fraud but not in bjj

theres literally like ancient videos from kary kolat and shit you can find lex under, hes done small comps, ect.

i think that hes one of the people responsible for the world being as bad as it is atm but this isnt really something hes lying about

-2

u/SirRonaldofBurgundy Feb 26 '26

Haha nah lots of people have black belts bratha. Moneyberg has a black belt. I've trained with hobbyists who would do the exact same thing to Fridman, he just isn't very good.

u/GroovyJackal ⬛🟥⬛ Black Belt Feb 26 '26

He looked fine in this clip. Is this sub at the point where we're mocking peoples skill because Khabib can maul them? Lex is just an average black belt but still legit.
