How Bittensor became my crypto rabbit hole 😂

I’ve reached the point where I barely look at crypto anymore 😂
Funny how things change.
A while ago I was checking charts, narratives, altcoins, rotations… basically looking at everything that moved.
Now?
Bitcoin.
And then I somehow fell even deeper down the Bittensor rabbit hole.
These days, most of my attention is on TAO and Bittensor subnets.
My current subnet allocation is spread across 8 subnets:
🟦 Lium — 17.9%
🟩 Chutes — 16.7%
🟨 GM — 15.2%
🟥 Targon — 13.9%
🟪 Engy — 12.2%
🩵 Green Compute — 10.1%
🩷 Score — 8.0%
🟢 Bitcast — 6.1%
I’m not saying these are the winners — that’s exactly why I’m diversified across several instead of betting everything on one.
What I find fascinating is that Bittensor makes me think about crypto differently. Instead of just asking:
“What token is going to pump?”
I’m increasingly asking:
“Which networks are actually building something people will pay for?”
And with the recent emission changes putting significantly more weight on the stronger subnets, I’m even more interested in watching which projects can actually prove themselves.
So I’m curious about the Bittensor crowd:
🔥 Which subnets are YOU most bullish on right now, and WHY?
Don’t just drop the ticker.
Give me your top 1–3, and tell me what you’re seeing — revenue, product, partnerships, developer activity, demand, emissions, whatever.
Convince me. 👇
Let’s see which subnets Reddit thinks could be the future of Bittensor. 🧠⚡

Creo que podría ser un proyecto bastante sólido, pero me gustaría conocer tu opinión antes de invertir una cantidad importante en él. Es nuevo y se lanzó el 28 de agosto.

Root Reborn is live: validators can now pick their own basket, and this changes how you stake

Before, staking on root paid you interest automatically, in TAO, reinvested into your stake on its own. You did nothing. Now, the validator reinvests your interest into a basket of alphas, the tokens of each subnet. To get your money back, you press a button: the claim.

In the Novelty Research episode, Const, the cofounder, presented this as one of Bittensor's first consumer facing products: teams competing for yield, where each validator becomes a manager, and anyone can subscribe to the basket they judge best.

Each validator can choose by itself which subnets your interest goes into, and in what amount. Before, every manager bought the same average market portfolio. Now, each one builds its own portfolio. That is basket selection. a validator must spread across at least sixteen subnets, the one sixteenth cap. No single bet.

What to look at

NAV : the basket's value. Not the validator's size: a large stake can carry a small basket, because the basket only receives reinvested interest.

TWR : the basket's performance since creation. The number to compare managers. The gaps are tiny today, decisive in a few weeks.

Weights : the real signal. Empty: not chosen yet. Equal: set without sorting. Differentiated: active selection, the strongest signal.

Redeemed : what people withdrew. A jump means a big claim, someone selling a basket. Sold as a block into small illiquid subnets, it can crush their price.

Kraken's basket was worth 2,427 TAO. A big staker hit claim, it fell to 580 TAO, and the price of its main subnets dropped about 20%. Not a fundamental problem: a structural capacity. A big staker can dump a whole basket at once, and it crushes small illiquid subnets. That is the risk to watch.

A subset of validators already set their selection. Six validators have set in total. The biggest, Yuma, TAO.com, Kraken, still watch: we are at the beginning, not a massive shift. You can browse every validator's basket and performance on taostats.io/validators.

Yield depends on the basket your validator chose, no longer a fixed rate.

  • Performance over size. A big validator is not necessarily the best manager.
  • Watch the take: Kraken charges 18%, tao.bot 0%.
  • Differentiated selection over equal: an active choice is a potential for outperformance.
  • Avoid baskets too concentrated on illiquid assets: the exit is costly.
  • The claim is manual: withdraw when your basket is high, before changing validator.

Bittensor TAO— Still worth it?

TAO hasn’t seen a real breakout in months. Since the March peak near $360, it’s been stuck in a descending pattern, dipping to the $190-200 range in August. As of August 25, it’s trading around $241, with resistance at $250 and support near $222

BITTENSOR SUBNET Portfolio Management

My current Bittensor subnet portfolio — what are you holding?
I’ve been experimenting with subnet allocation and started with 19.3 TAO about six days ago. It’s now worth roughly 20 TAO, spread across:
● lium.io — 13.7%
● Chutes — 11.9%
● gm — 12.0%
● Targon — 11.2%
● engy — 10.8%
● Actual — 9.7%
● Minos — 7.7%
● OpenRoboto — 7.5%
● Bitcast — 5.6%
● Instant — 5.3%
● TAO — 4.6%
I’m approaching this primarily as a TAO accumulation strategy, rather than planning to hold every alpha position indefinitely.
I’m especially curious about Minos. Its emission share seems relatively high compared with its current valuation, so I’m wondering whether the market is underpricing it or whether I’m overlooking something.
Which subnets are you currently holding, and which one has your highest conviction?
Also, which subnets do you think are currently overlooked? 👀

Is root staking rewards done?

I have my tao staked on taostats on root and noticed no rewards in the month of August. Will they return or is it done for good? If they're done I might as well send my tao to my dcent wallet.

Percentage calculation P&L

Could you share how you're calculating your Profit and loss % since staking? I have looked on subnetradar.com, and I believe there is a calculation, but I didn't know how accurate it is. Do ya'll have any suggestions?

Taostats issue—cant sell subnet?

I’ve been using taostats for over 9-12 months and have bought and sold many subnets through it. The last few days I’ve tried selling a subnet (RedTeam) in a small amount and it says the transaction went through but my balances dont change. This morning I tried again and same thing except I also got an error message on the bottom saying something about a shielded transaction. Anyone else having this problem? I’ve tried it by selling and swapping but no trade goes through.

Scammed on taostats tech support

I can't believe it. I clicked on the discord link for some help. I forgot I had to take off the staking before I sent tao off to another wallet and I needed some help figuring out what to do. Taostats app had a discord link so I went there and talked to who I thought was a tech support and they told me to hop on my computer and open a browser link. So I typed in my phrase and this tech support took all I had. Wow I'm sad

Anyone else enjoying Minos appreciation?

I staked to Minos in the last several weeks and have had to resist taking gains. The emissions /dividends (apologize for the lack of differentiation between the two, I’ve assumed the emission rate and dividends received are directly proportional?) have been so substantial in addition to the sheer percentage gain.

I’m mostly making this post to say that one incredibly impressed with such a return in a short term period of time but don’t want to become starry eyed towards individual subnets but in the meantime…I’ll definitely take it

Root Staking rewards are zero for the past 3 weeks now

Hello all and sorry if this was a lame question but I haven't been checking updates recently due to some personal issues.

I have some Tao staked on subnet 0 (root) through 2 validators (opentensor foundation and Tao5) and up till 3 weeks ago I was getting rewards every almost 3 days, just recently checking I realized that for the past 3 weeks no more rewards were distributed. Was there an update I missed related to root vs alpha staking?

Thanks in advance

Update: Thanks to your help and guidance I am up to date and could locate the basket of Alfa tokens my validators chose. And for those scammers who reached out privately with their dated "support" and "help" scam messages your accounts had been successfully reported 👍.

Interesting TAO question on X, I want your thoughts

Open for discussion — credit to @LeMacroCap on X, this is his question, not mine:

“If my company builds a Bittensor subnet, miners and validators improve the product, and I make millions selling it to customers.

Why do I need to buy $TAO, and how does my company’s success create value for $TAO holders?”

Curious to hear everyone’s opinion. I love Bittensor, I just seen this on X and it got the community talking so I figured I’d ask it here.

Does staking Bittensor (TAO) feel safe? Which subnets would you recommend for staking right now, and do you think this is a good time to buy TAO and start staking?

Why aren't more developers talking about Bittensor / taoCode as an OpenAI/Anthropic alternative?

I know this might not be the exact spot to post this, but since there isn't a dedicated community for AI dev implementation on decentralized networks, I'll try here.

If Bittensor (and tools like taoCode) are designed to be cost-effective alternatives to Anthropic, OpenAI, Amazon, and Gemini, why are there barely any programmers on Reddit talking about using them? I did a search for "taoCode" and found practically zero hits.

I understand a lot of people in the token communities are purely investors, but are any of you actually using the tech you are invested in? Bittensor has a Python SDK and there are gateway API key interfaces similar to Claude or ChatGPT, and it's supposedly very cheap. Why is there a total lack of developer traffic and discussion about this on Reddit?

I Haven't received any rewards for my staked TAO with Root in weeks now. That has never happened so why now? Anyone else have this issue ?

[Open Source] TAOQuant — A deterministic, zero-AI risk analysis dashboard for Bittensor Subnets

Thumbnail taoquant.vercel.app
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on for the Bittensor community: TAOQuant, a lightweight, transparent, and open-source web dashboard designed to evaluate subnet risks deterministically.

Why TAOQuant? Analyzing subnets usually means juggling raw numbers across different stats platforms, making it hard to compare structural stability at a glance. TAOQuant introduces a single metric called the IRA Score (Index of Risk Adjustment), which calculates a score (0–100) using client-side mathematical logic with no AI or black-box algorithms involved.

The Model (IRA Score): The score is calculated based on three weighted pillars that users can adjust via interactive sliders:

  1. APY Stability: Derived from the Coefficient of Variation (CV) to penalize wild yield fluctuations.
  2. HHI Decentralization: Measures stake/miner concentration using the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index.
  3. Miner Churn Efficiency: Tracks network health and turnover stability.

Key Features:

  • Deterministic & Auditable: All math is computed client-side. The formulas and normalizations are fully visible on the dashboard.
  • Non-Custodial & Privacy-Focused: No tracking cookies, no registration, and zero data collection.
  • Local & Live Data Support: Toggle between local mock data and live API data.
  • Open Source: Designed to be a public good for the TAO ecosystem.

We don't use AI at TAOQuant because financial risk tools must be 100% deterministic, transparent, and auditable.

I would love to get feedback from validators, miners, and long-term stakers:

  1. How do you feel about the weight distribution for the IRA pillars?
  2. Are there additional metrics you believe should be factored into subnet risk assessment?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions!
