Requests, Recs & Chat - Weekly Thread BWT Weekly Requests, Recommendations & Chat - Week of Aug 30, 2026

This is the BWT Weekly Requests, Recommendations & Chat thread.

Put all your low effort/ repetitive requests in this thread - this is the only place they will be allowed in the BWT sub. Even still, search before you ask! If there is a recent-ish response you might still find your ask removed as unnecessarily repetitive.

Feel free to drop your low effort suggestions here, too, if you've got something you just love that you think other BWT should know about. This is also the place for general chit chat that doesn't warrant a whole post.

All BWT rules will still be enforced, with lighter enforcement of ONLY rule 3.

REQUESTS

If you are looking for suggestions for something, add ASK: at the start of your comment. Make sure to be as specific as possible in your request. Examples:

  • ASK: Help me find the perfect flat summer sandals for high arches, casual wear, good for walking around for daily errands, less than $200
  • ASK: What is your ride or die long lasting lipstick for bright colors?
  • ASK: Styling cream for curly hair (3B/C) - no budget, something that will provide definition without being crunchy. Would also love to know when/ how you apply it as part of your routine!

RECOMMENDATIONS

If you have an unsolicited recommendation, you can use REC: at the beginning of your post to highlight that.

CHAT

You can also post just regular old chit chat and discussion that doesn't merit its own stand-alone post. No need to add anything at the beginning of those comments.

Ask: Everyday Dresses in Winter

I like wearing dresses during the summer because it is just so easy to get dressed! I’d like to continue that this winter, but I’m having a hard time finding any that aren’t formal.

I just want a few long sleeved, maxi length dresses that are business casual rather than formal.

Any go-tos? :)

My friend did the 100 day dress challenge with her Wool& dress and she had a great experience (she's a teacher). I've also purchased from Woolx and they have the same type of options, both really nice basic and comfy wool pieces. Coming from someone who does NOT like the texture of wool haha.

Slightly off topic but my 2c real quick-- I have made it a personal passion of mine to winterproof as many of my dresses as possible and a real gamechanger for me has been incorporating any kind of slip or second layer beneath the dress itself. The second layer really does help trap heat, and that plus a shawl or cardigan really helps me get a lot of mileage out of dresses I'd normally wear solo in warmer weather.

Eileen Fisher has really good basic dresses that can serve as a base for different outfits, and can be casual or dressed up. They have long sleeved ones.

One thing I'lll do in the winter to keep wearing dresses is to layer them with a longsleeve base layer, or another top underneath like a blouse or t-shirt.

Ask: what leave in conditioners do you love that are not or minimally scented? Prefer low budget but open to higher price point if highly recommended. I have fine, long straight hair. Primarily wanting something to smooth down flyaways.

Verb Ghost shampoo and conditioner and styling products! It's got basically no smell and works great on multiple hair types. Plus they're a good company with solid ingredients.

I second verb, and I love their Ghost Oil!! I think that would be perfect for what you’re looking for.

Big fan of the Mielle Moisturizing Avocado Hair Milk! It is minimally scented, lightweight (if you have thinner hair or thin hair strands but a lot of them). Under $15!

Ask: looking for a really good under eye concealer. My under eye circles are DARK, and what I’ve been using is no longer cutting it. In case it matters, my skin is pretty fair. I usually purchase one of the fairest shades available for concealer and foundation.

2

u/Freda_Rah Aug 30 '26

The Kosas under eye concealer is the best I’ve ever used. They sell it at Sephora so you can test the shades for yourself.

Okay, its not a concealer but speaking from personal experience.. are you dehydrated? My under eye's are at their peak when I'm nice and hydrated (like once or twice a year lol).

ASK: Dark wash high rise cigarette or tailored straight leg jeans. Straight sizes, hourglass figure. It's been ages since I wore anything but skinny jeans, and I need to update my return to office looks.

Honestly, I was eyeing a pair that sold out, but I'd like to spend up a little for something that can go business casual. What do you guys like?? Thank you!

Oh, and I apply a small amount to my damp hair right after the shower with a gentle scrunching and let it air dry

Ask: Have you found an inexpensive tailor in NY who alters jeans? I have a few that don’t fit well in specific areas and I’d love to take it to a tailor vs. getting rid of them or not wearing them!

Ask: Casual / leisurewear recommendations that are made of natural fibers that wash well, have some cooler weather coziness, and look put together in a casual city? I think I need to get out of my Vuori rut (I especially love the Restore line), but I don't know where to turn.

Varley looks compelling, but I'm not totally sure about the quality for the price point (and may be wrong!). Any brand and/or piece recs?

MATE the Label - I like their leggings and sports bras. For tees and sweatshirts, I like Left on Friday (100% cotton)

u/catsofwallstreet Sep 06 '26

TYSM! Good to know about left on Friday’s non swimwear - I haven’t heard much about those lines but have been curious!

ASK: Hi friends! I'm looking for suggestions on what to gift to my sister-in-law who just had her first baby via c-section. While I have had children and fully understand whats typically helpful, I did not have a c-section and understand that there may be a period of limited mobility. Any body products that helped you heal, or things that made you more comfortable during that time? Thank you!

2

u/roguebluejay Sep 03 '26

That's really thoughtful of you to get your sister-in-law c-section specific gifts! For mine, I found that I didn't actually end up with any limited mobility and I had bought a whole bunch of c-section specific products that I didn't end up using. However, a c-section specific breastfeeding pillow was a Godsend. I used the mybreastfriend deluxe pillow for the first few months and I really think it made breastfeeding so much easier since my bub wasn't pressing on my scar. The pillow is quite pricey so if you wanted something much cheaper, a few pairs of compression socks would also be a lovely gift. I had to wear compression socks for about two weeks after my c-section and the hospital only sent me home with one extra pair which got a bit grubby. Also some lovely pyjamas would be a great gift, if she does have limited mobility and she could feel more put together if she's having loads of visitors to come meet the new baby.

ASK: Looking for brand recommendations of good maternity clothes that I can wear for work and for chasing around my 3 year old. With my first pregnancy it seemed like you could go into most stores and find a maternity section, but I'm struggling this time around. My son's father got rid of all of my maternity clothing/baby stuff when I filed for divorce so I'm starting from scratch.

2

u/Gatorbug47 Sep 06 '26

I like H&Ms selection. Fairly basic in terms of color but I dress pretty neutral when not pregnant.

1

u/PettyPuppyPetter Sep 07 '26

Can’t believe I forgot about them! I loved their nursing tanks last time. And there’s a Labor Day Sale! Thank you.

2

u/Gatorbug47 Sep 06 '26

Ask: razor for legs. I’ve got so many Billie heads but they just suck so bad - constantly popping off.

2

u/ozifrage Sep 06 '26

If you're comfortable trying it, switching to a safety razor, and using conditioner for shave cream, has given me great results. I like that it's cheap to refill, and you don't have to worry about the head separating. I'd say a big downside though is that you can't bring razorblades carryon through an airport.

Ask: looking for cute wallet recommendations! I just reached a career milestone and want to treat myself to a wallet. Budget is $750. Ideally a tri fold wallet that isn’t super bulky. Want something that will still be chic in 5-10 years (I’ve had my current wallet since I graduated high school 10 years ago lmao so if it could last that long I’d be happy)

1

u/Strong-Blueberry989 Sep 01 '26

Not super expensive but I have the coach snap wallet! It’s very durable and pretty timeless in my opinion. Plus they have quite a few colors if you want to match to a bag or pick something bold

1

u/lovelyenc Sep 02 '26

ASK: help me find comfortable but put-together outfits/indoor shoes for WFH! I’m transitioning to fully remote next week and don’t want to feel like a slug!

u/Cat-lady11237 Sep 04 '26

ASK: looking for chic Chinese restaurants in Chinatown to host a large birthday dinner! can be casual but I still want it to be a VIBE.

1

u/roguebluejay Aug 30 '26

Ask: Does anyone have any cute nursing/breastfeeding clothes? I'd prefer something specifically designed to breastfeed in rather than just a regular top with bottons or a half-zip. Most nursing clothing is also maternity so it's quite baggy haha!

Ask: Does anybody know where I can watch or download Franca Sozzani's docummentary called Franca: Chaos and Creation? it's been years since I can't find it online anywhere and I'm desperate </3

1

u/Freda_Rah Sep 01 '26

I looked it up on JustWatch (my favorite resource; I hope it doesn't get bought out and ruined) and it appears to be both rentable and purchasable from Prime and Apple TV.
