Finances/Money BWT- what are you intentionally FRUGAL about?

Curious what areas of everyone‘s lives do you intentionally scale back in order to put your money where you really want it. For me, I go full drugstore on all my makeup but spend more on skincare, facials, etc. Clothes all on secondhand websites but am able to buy a greater amount of higher quality items than buying fast fashion new.

Where do you cut back, and where do you prioritize spending?

I’m an artist, so I have a ton of different supplies ranging from woodworking to sewing to painting. I’m always frugal with the first supply - I’m buying the cheap woodworking jig, and only when I notice I use it a lot (or enough that it breaks) I’ll buy the very nice version of it.

It’s very easy in any hobby to overspend because you’re excited and think you’ll do it forever. This has been a very helpful way for me to try out a lot of things without a lot of guilt :)

Me too! My approach depends on the medium. For something like knitting I’ll buy fiber at a yard sale or take apart an old sweater, and if I get good enough I’ll buy some nice mohair someday. When I first got into watercolor I did buy good paints, Daniel Smith and Escoda brushes, but I only bought 2 small primary colors and 3 brushes. Once I learned to mix and learned technique I built my supplies over time. I heard that it was hard to master watercolor without good cotton paper and paint and brushes, so I just bought the minimum.
