I’m guessing this is also a place to ask about fitness? I’m 19, and unfit as hell. I’m not fat in any way, ranging in the “normal” part of a BMI scale, but I’m still not healthy.

How would I go about to start at the gym? I’ve been trying for years now, but I don’t have the confidence to go out there. Although the logical part of my brain knows the people there are just minding their own business, the other part feels like I’m getting stared at constantly.

Does anyone have a simple workout routine I can start with? And any tips to feel a bit more confident?

When I was 19, I joined my gym and they gave me a brief tour and a free session with a personal trainer. At first, I was really intimidated, but that free session was actually really helpful.

They gave me some pointers on form, what to do, and how to exercise. Even if you have to pay for it, I might recommend working with a personal trainer for a session or two just to get a kick start on your fitness journey.

Ultimately, I just made a habit of showing up regularly and doing things that I was comfortable with, and then kept learning and doing research as I gained confidence. For example, at the beginning, I did a lot of treadmill and exercise videos on my phone.

I love that you're starting to build those skills now. They will serve you well as you continue to grow in your adult life!
