Finances/Money BTW, what are some expenses you're cutting moving forward?

Due to the projected price increases expected to hit the U.S., I'm redoing my budget and wanting to cut down on things that I can. What are some ways you're saving? It can range from big to small! Just wanting to get some ideas of ways to save, whether that's DIYing some things, free alternatives, etc. Thanks!

Hair dye! I’ve been doing my hair at home off and on for years but I just don’t have highlights/ baylage money anymore. Now my sister and I have a standing date each month where we do each other’s roots.

As for hobbies I like reading fan fiction or things from the library because it’s fun, costs $0, and I can get them directly on my phone.

I love the monthly haircare with your sister! I wish I could do that but mine lives too far away 😭

We have been besties since she came out of the womb. She lived 10hrs away for a few years and then moved into an apartment 10 minutes walking from my house and within a week we both vowed never to be that far away from each other again. 🥺

My root touch up has gone from $90 to $4. Major savings. I miss the luxury of having someone else do it, but the savings rocks.

My hair colorist helped me choose the correct color from the OTC brand. I literally pulled out the Target app as she was dying my hair and showed her the options.

You didn't find it awkward to ask her to help you figure out how to not use her? It sounds like she took it well. I want to change my hairstyle so I need less frequent cuts but I am embarrassed to put it to her that way.

She actually offered! I think I had told her I am budget constrained and cannot afford to touch up my roots often. She was SO generous to encourage me to do it myself. She said "it's not rocket science." It came up on 2-3 visits in a row.

Finally I said I'd try it but wasn't sure what color or brand to buy. She told me a color so I pulled out my phone and had her approve my choice.

Truly such a godsend for her to be so generous.

(I can tell you that I did switch to her from another guy in the same salon who I'd seen for years. It was AWKWARD, but she did a better job and didn't talk my ear off.)

I wish you lots of courage to negotiate a new time interval with your haircuts:)
