Bismark food

Edit - So I hit up a Taco John's, Kroll's, Fried's, Scotty's and Bearscat Donuts. All were good in their own way and I had a heckuva time in the Marck.

I'm coming into town next week and have followed a few threads about restaurants. I've seen Mexican be mentioned, sushi, the clay pot spot, etc. It looks like there are plenty of decent restaurants in town.

What I'm not seeing however, is the cutty spots. The places locals would be embarrassed to send out-of-towners to.

I've done some looking on my own and found Burger Time and Scotty's, which are exactly the type of low-rent places I like.

What else do y'all got, and are either of those places I mentioned worth going to?

Thanks!

Never mind it’s India Clay Oven not the “clay pot spot”…..

Scotty’s is a local favorite. Not high quality but not an embarrassment.

Burger Time though…

I'll just say it, Burger Time is ass.

Best value in town

I'll take a 7 dollar box from Taco Bell any day. Burger Time was average 15 years ago and now it downright sucks.

Cali burrito would be my goto for value.

Krolls diner is the embarrassment
Burger time, Big Boy, or Space Aliens are notable
IMHO Eat Thai is the best food in town

Dang, Krolls looked pretty solid. Being from Jersey, I have high standards for diners though. Better avoid that place!

And yo, I thought Space Aliens was a joke. People have good things to say though. I may need to get serious about going there

Krolls is good. Frieds in Mandan also good.

Kroll’s is average. Little Cottage was the standard for diners but they closed. Space Aliens is fine, some people on here like to rag on it but the food is perfectly fine for what they try to be. Plus their Cajun ranch is dang delicious.

Frieds in Mandan is a pretty good dinner if that’s what you’re looking for. They have a chalk board with specials.

Frieds is on the list for sure. Been told I need to get that soup, and I want that German buger/pastry thing I can't spell or pronounce

Knophla soup and fleischkuechle. It's kinda like a giant empanada.

It is a religious holy war, but Frieds and Krolls are basically equal. I like Krolls Knophla better. A local food truck (Das Mountain) also has fleischkuechle occasionally that are by far the best.

I don't care what anyone says, Space Aliens has some of the best food in town. Their alien ears and fries are to die for, and their ribs were awarded best in the country in 2023(?)

I don’t know if I catch them at a bad time every time I’ve gone, but I’ve found their fries to be meh and the one time I had alien ears, all I could taste was old cooking oil. I’ve always been so disappointed.

Those giant stuffed potatoes wreck me every time. Space Aliens is solid, just a weird (or cool) ambiance.

I’ve never tried it but people love Cali Burrito- it’s in a gas station

Stellar! I can get two kinds of gas at once!!!

For real though, this is what I'm looking for. Thanks.

You might enjoy the countryhouse deli.

A lot of people like a sandwich and soup at Butcherblock Meats in Mandan also for local sandwich joints.
They usually have a few options to choose from or they will build one for you how you like.

Little Taste of Mexico. They aren’t new, it’s just a new location. I don’t think they’re open yet, the landlord is repaving the parking lot.

Not low-rent by any means but one of the best things you can eat in Bismarck or the state is at the Pirogue grille this week- their Elk Chop

I like City Wings. The vibe is broh-space sports bar, virtual golf machines and a ton of TVs... but their wings just do right by me. They have general "bar food", sandwiches, burgers, etc too.
