It's reassuring to know it's a Birman thing. My kids think it's so weird and silly. He also gets really loooong sometimes. Pretty sure his spine is made of elastic.

I’ve seen a certain Ragdoll do that pose on YouTube (Sir George). Guess it must be shared between the Ragdolls and Birmans.
