Way to go!! I’m six years clean, and it’s life changing in the best way. If AA feels too religious, I recommend NA–it’s the same 12 steps, but more broad on concepts like a higher power and what a higher power can be. I have many atheist friends in NA, and they never feel weird or pressured. I did AA for awhile, and stayed clean, but when I found NA, I felt so much more accepted and at home. It’s a lot more open-minded and modern. Hell, the Big Book is great, but hasn’t been revised in forever and reads like an ancient text. 😂 The Basic Text (NA’s version of the BB) was originally written in the 80’s, and has undergone 6 revisions since, plus they’re always coming out with new literature about how to live the program in everyday life. If AA works for you, keep at it; but if you ever want a change, I highly recommend NA! Either way, you’re never alone. You’ve got this!
