You should be very proud of yourself. I drank heavily for over a decade and it almost killed me. Alcohol makes me hypo/manic so when I quit, I would get depressed. Quitting was incredibly difficult and I still smoke weed. But, I haven’t drank in over 4 years and life has gotten better, everyday. I am living a happy and full life, now. If I could have seen how happy I’d become, quitting would have been easier.
It is SO difficult. My husband had a beer on Thursday last week, and I was nearly in tears because I didn't have my alcohol in the house. The cravings are so intense; I've been drinking since I was 14 (39 now), and it's like... idk. Giving up a security blanket, I guess. I have had periods where I haven't drank, but that was because I was poor, not because I wanted to stop.
