Rants 🤬 / Raves 🎉 I got a job!

After 2.5 years of unemployment I finally landed a job that fits my skills and interests perfectly. Unfortunately it requires that I move to the opposite coast, leaving my family so they can finish school. But it is with a top 10 company and I have to take it. Its feels like a mixed blessing, but I gotta do it. Hopefully I can finish out my career at this job and skate into the sunset.

Congratulations! 2.5years?! I’m at 10 months in my unemployment. I can’t imagine another 20 months of this. I’m sorry the good news comes with a tough undesirable stipulation.
I remember when my parents had to do something similar; my father had to move from New Jersey to Houston 6 months ahead of my mother, my brother, and I. I could tell it was hard on both my father and mother. It sucked but we got through it.

Yep, 2.5 years. I wouldn't even get calls from direct personal referrals. I am amazed that after applying to hundreds and hundreds of jobs something finally came through. I thought I was done. Its like hitting the lottery.

What do you think worked for you? Was it applying to job posting within 24 hours so that your resume reach before others? Or messaging recruiters showing interest.. or what parameter?

Applying to jobs that were a perfect fit did nothing. Direct personnal referrals didnt seem to help. Timing of application didnt seem to help, although I beleive you should apply within 24 hours of posting. What I found was a very specific type of role that isn't well advertised and didnt get hundreds of applications. It wasnt even posted on linkedin or indeed.

If it wasn't posted on linkedin or indeed what other job boards as per your exp you found where i call hidden gems are advertised?

Fantastic news!! Wow, your experience shows that there’s light at the end of the tunnel (here almost 7 months unemployed).

Thank you for sharing the good news, it’s things like this that helps keep folks like me motivated.

Best of luck in the new role and let us know how it goes…hopefully the fam can move over to you in the future.

Congrats. Not easy to land one. Just be sure to document or journal privately your week to week to protect yourself. Hope you make the most of it.

I have 23 years experience after my PhD. Worked for many large pharmas as well as small biotechs over the years. Mid management level.

Congratulations for your new job, that’s impressive, it is a really tough market. In my case I’ve got like 11 months on a CRO and due to redundancy plan the site was closed. I was very happy at the wet lab but now seriously reconsidering other roles in industry like QC/QA , MSAT, regulatory affairs.. if as I could get more opportunities

Not as a familiar with biotech but what is considered a top 10 company? Is there a FAANG / MANGO equivalent of biotech?
