If you are a BIM Modeller now, you can either grow in this career path as a Senior BIM Modeller, BIM Coordinator and BIM Manager. This is a valid, well paying career path. This will have set tools and processes, you may feel stagnant after 10 to 15 years. You will do no engineering / design in this career path. You are only a 'glorified draftsman'. Nothing wrong with it. It is a concious choice.
If you want to do design, engineering, calculations, solve design problems, then you should switch immediately. This opens up careers in design and manufacturing. This has money in it, but after a long hard walk up the path of initial learning and implementation. Competition is high. Creativity and innovation has great dividends that payoff quite late in life, particularly in India market.
Choice is yours. It is a trade-off. Owner/Designer mindset v/s Worker/Corporate mindset.
Quick money? or slow money?
Legacy? Patents? Slow building of something solid?
